Carlton Drake stood before the large floor-to-ceiling window, while the intelligence officer behind him tremblingly handed him a tablet. His long fingers swiped across the screen, his stern face showing no emotion. However, the images on the screen made the surrounding air become stagnant.
A figure in black and red clothing, whose movements were as exaggerated as a circus clown, but who eliminated all the mercenaries he had sent out with terrifying precision and efficiency. Blood and severed limbs were glaringly scarlet on the screen, and not far away, there was a man with cold eyes, arms crossed, as if scrutinizing the entire farce.
Drake handed the tablet back to the intelligence officer, his voice low and calm: "Who are these two?"
The intelligence officer swallowed, his voice almost trembling: "Still investigating... But according to preliminary analysis, their abilities are extraordinary, especially the one in the red and black outfit, he..."
"Enough." Drake raised his hand to interrupt him, his tone cold, "Don't tell me the process, I just want the result. Where is Eddie Brock? What is the relationship between these two and him?"
A layer of cold sweat seeped from the intelligence officer's forehead, and he lowered his head and replied: "We are tracking... But currently, their actions seem to be protecting Eddie."
Drake's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of almost imperceptible anger flashing in them. His voice was still calm, but every word seemed to carry a sharp blade: "Protect? What are the people I sent out doing? They are protecting Eddie, not my interests?"
The intelligence officer lowered his head, not daring to make a sound, but he knew in his heart that Drake's calmness at this moment was just a thin shell, covering the impending 폭발 of rage. He held his breath, waiting for Drake's next instruction.
"Continue the investigation," Drake said in a low voice, then turned and walked towards the depths of the room. The intelligence officer looked at his back, secretly Rejoice that he could still stand there.
The morning sun streamed through the worn curtains into Eddie's small apartment. The air was filled with the cheap aroma of instant coffee, and a subtle... smell of gunpowder.
Eddie leaned against the worn kitchen counter, holding a cup of hot coffee in his hand, looking complexly at the two uninvited guests sitting on the sofa. Deadpool was holding a piece of moldy bread, sniffing it and showing a disgusted expression: "Brother Eddie, what are you feeding? Rat food? Or are you planning to switch careers and become a poison researcher?"
Eddie took a deep breath, put the coffee cup heavily on the table, and tried to suppress the anger in his heart: "If you don't like it, you can go out for breakfast. I don't provide five-star service here."
"Don't say that!" Deadpool stuffed the bread into his mouth, making exaggerated chewing sounds, "Although your place is a bit broken, it's very flavorful, really. Look at the cracks in the wall, they tell us like works of art that the hardships of life can also be beautiful."
Eddie rolled his eyes and turned to look at Dominic, who was standing by the window, calmly observing the street outside, silent as an ice sculpture.
"What about you?" Eddie raised his chin, his tone impatient, "You seem to be the one with a brain. Can you tell me now what you two want to do? This guy has been babbling about The Multiverse, and saying that I'm related to some great hero. To be honest, I don't believe it."
Dominic slowly turned his head, his gaze piercing Eddie like a knife: "Believe it or not. We are here to find a hero."
"Hero?" Eddie laughed, full of sarcasm, "Listen, I'm not a hero. I'm a unlucky reporter trying to survive. And you 'big shots', don't expect to find any earth-shattering secrets from me."
"Not you," Dominic said calmly, then added, "It's him."
Eddie's face instantly froze. Venom's low voice came from within him, with a hint of impatience: "I knew it. These guys are up to no good."
"Hey!" Deadpool immediately interrupted, his tone as light as if he were talking about the weather, "Don't be so defensive, we just want to ask for your help. You know, little things like saving the Universe. Venom, I heard you have a big appetite, those evil villains are definitely your ideal delicious meal."
Venom let out a low growl, with a hint of disdain: "I am not your mercenary, nor your pet."
"Pet? Wow, that breaks my heart." Deadpool covered his chest, pretending to be in pain, "You could clearly be my capable partner, we could kill enemies together, save the World together, and even..."
"Shut up." Eddie roared, slamming his fist on the table, "Enough! When are you two crazy people going to leave? This is bad enough, I don't need you to cause more trouble."
"Leave?" Deadpool's eyes widened, looking at Dominic with an exaggerated expression, "Did you hear that? He wants to kick us out! I solved those bad guys for him, and now he's treating his savior like this?"
Dominic frowned slightly, his voice indifferent: "We don't belong here. But until we find what we need, you'd better cooperate."
Venom growled again, his voice threatening: "Try threatening us and see what the consequences will be."
Deadpool immediately raised his hands, making a gesture of surrender: "Calm down, calm down, I dislike conflict the most. After all, I am a pacifist, right?"
Eddie took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and his gaze swept back and forth between the two: "Okay. I don't care where the hell you came from, or what you're chasing. But you'd better make sure you don't get me into more trouble."
Deadpool whistled as he sat back on the sofa, his tone light: "Of course not, we are the most professional! Except for the occasional small-scale explosion, pursuit, or inter-universal upheaval, but those are not big deals, right?"
Eddie leaned on the worn sofa, his fingers unconsciously tapping his knees, his gaze shifting between Deadpool and Dominic. His face was full of struggle, and finally he gritted his teeth: "Since you are so capable, why don't you help me deal with the Life Foundation? The people they sent to hunt me down are enough. If you can really do it, then I will consider helping you."
Deadpool instantly stood up straight, as if he had heard an incredible request. He patted his chest with one hand, and said with an exaggerated expression: "Brother, you should have said so earlier! What is this? Just the wish of a little reporter being hunted by bad guys. Don't worry, I, Deadpool, like to help the most, as long as there are enough conditions."
Eddie snorted coldly: "Conditions? I knew it. Guys like you would never do good deeds for free."
Deadpool spread his hands innocently: "Don't say that, negotiation is the basis of modern civilization, isn't it? We help you get rid of those annoying guys from the foundation, and you, you just obediently follow us and do some small work to save the Universe. How about it, a win-win situation?"
Dominic slowly turned around and approached Eddie. His gaze was as sharp as a knife, his voice low but full of power: "If you need me to, I can directly destroy the Life Foundation, leaving no trace of them."
Venom's low growl came from within Eddie, with a hint of probing and disbelief: "I can feel you are very strong. Who exactly are you? Since you can destroy them, why do you still need us?"
Dominic stared coldly at Eddie, his words like a sharp sword pointing directly at people's hearts: "What I need is not your strength, but your existence. The order in the Universe has collapsed, and what I want is a new rule. I don't care what others think, as long as they know that no one can challenge what I want to do."
Venom let out a short hiss, seemingly in agreement with these words, but Eddie still frowned: "It sounds like some kind of terrifying ruler's lines. To be honest, that doesn't make me believe you."
"He doesn't need your trust, baby." Deadpool suddenly interrupted, a cynical smile on his lips, "Superheroes are all like this, the lines must be explosive, and the pretense must be in place. Don't tell me you haven't seen those movies, when superheroes show off their muscles alone, there's always a bit of this flavor." He deliberately lowered his voice, imitating a deep tone, "'I will protect this World, even if you don't understand my power.' Wow, it gives me goosebumps."
Dominic frowned and looked down at Deadpool: "You talk too much."
Deadpool shrugged, not caring at all: "That's my specialty. Besides, you have to admit, I'm right, aren't I? A superhero without showing off is like a cream cake without frosting, completely soulless! Even if you are a hidden Superman, you have to gather a few helpers, preferably do some live broadcasting, so that the audience all over the Universe can see what you are doing."
Eddie couldn't help but roll his eyes: "You're crazy, what kind of people are these? This is getting more and more ridiculous."
Venom suddenly said in a low voice: "He is very strong. If he can really destroy the foundation, we can consider it."
Deadpool clapped his hands: "That's right! Everyone helps each other, peacefully and harmoniously, how great!" He drew out his twin swords from behind and swung them a few times casually, "Come on, it's settled. I'll go find those bastards from the foundation now and bring you a 'welcome gift' - their heads, how about it?"
Dominic raised his hand to stop him, his voice cold but firm: "No rush. Let him agree first."
Eddie's face was cloudy and uncertain. He stared at the two strange people in front of him, his heart full of contradictions. Finally, he sighed, his tone helpless: "Okay. If you can really solve the foundation, I will help you. However, I will only help once. Don't expect me to be your long-term tool."
Deadpool laughed and patted Eddie hard on the shoulder: "I knew you would agree, friend! Don't worry, we are professionals." A hint of excitement flashed in his eyes, and his tone became sarcastic, "Alright, I'm going to work now, and by the way, see if these foundation mercenaries are easier to be chopped into 'artworks'."
As he spoke, he drew his twin swords and walked towards the door. His steps were light, and he hummed an unknown tune, as if he was not facing a life-and-death battle, but a pleasant outing.
Dominic looked at his back, his gaze deep and cold: "I hope you know what you are doing."
Deadpool turned his head, his usual smile on his lips: "I always know what I'm doing - or at least, it looks like I do." With that, he disappeared into the morning sun, leaving Eddie and Dominic in silent confrontation, the air filled with an unspeakable tension.
