Lolita's cellphone rang on her desk in her bedroom. She put her magazine on her desk and answered her cellphone.
"Lolita! Are you okay?" Yesmin's voice was full of concern.
Lolita leaned back in her chair, puzzled. "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Because there's a flood happening in Intermarium!" Yesmin's voice pitched higher. "A massive one!"
"What!" Lolita snapped. "You have got to be kidding me!"
"No, it's all over the news!"
Lolita's hand trembled as she grabbed the remote from her dresser. The television flickered to life, revealing aerial footage of Kip-ford submerged in churning brown water. Bodies floated between rooftops. Children cried from second-story windows.
"Are you safe?" Yesmin asked.
"I'm fine. I live too far from Ethan's Dam—the flood won't reach me here." Lolita's voice was barely steady as she watched a rescue helicopter pull survivors from a school roof.
"That's good to hear! I'm sending my emergency crew to help the survivors of the flood."
"Thank you. I'll have to inform Axel about the situation. I've to go."
Lolita ended the call. She didn't have words to describe how angry she was at Osa.
