"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 218: Sawa the Model Student—School Trip Anticipation

Tap, tap, tap...

Two crisp sets of footsteps echoed through the classroom. Heads turned. Two figures entered—one familiar, one new.

At the front stood Tamae-sensei, their homeroom teacher, beaming with her signature warmth. Beside her, the newcomer immediately drew every eye: chestnut hair braided into twin tails, a smile like sunlight, and the neat Raizen High girls' uniform.

Before the whispers could start, Tamae-sensei's gentle voice cut through the room.

"Everyone, let me introduce your new classmate—Sawa Yamauchi. Please give her a warm welcome."

Thunderous applause erupted. The boys, especially, wasted no time.

"Another beauty joins our ranks! This class is unstoppable!"

"Seriously, we've got more gorgeous girls than any other class in school!"

"Just hope this new transfer doesn't end up in that scumbag's clutches…"

The last comment earned a round of nervous glances toward the second-to-last row—where Shuo sat, the infamous "enemy of all boys."

Kurumi, seated just behind Shuo, glanced up from her phone. Seeing her old friend on the podium, she offered a genuine, heartfelt smile and joined the applause.

Sawa's gaze swept the room, lingering on Kurumi. Their eyes met, and for a moment, they shared a private smile.

Once the applause faded, Sawa turned to the blackboard, wrote her name, and began her introduction with practiced ease.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Sawa Yamauchi."

Having faced life and death, this kind of moment was nothing to her. She rattled off her interests and hobbies, then closed with a simple wish:

"I hope I can get along well with all of you."

No mention of age, of course—she'd learned that trick from Kurumi just yesterday.

"Alright, Sawa-san, find yourself a seat," Tamae-sensei prompted, still smiling.

Instantly, a chorus of boys called out, each inviting Sawa to sit beside them. She responded with polite smiles and gentle refusals, weaving through the invitations with grace.

Under the watchful eyes of the class, Sawa made her way to the seat next to Kurumi, diagonally behind Shuo.

The boys groaned in disbelief.

"Why'd she pick the popular guy's row?"

"That scumbag's got everyone fooled with that pretty face! Sawa-san probably thinks he's a model student."

"Don't trust Nangong—he'll eat you alive and not even spit out the bones!"

"Unforgivable!"

"Hey, hey, what are you guys even talking about?"

Shuo shot back, feigning outrage.

"Don't go smearing my reputation! 'Scumbag'? 'Popular guy'? I'm just a good student, through and through."

He turned to Sawa, flashing his most confident, gentlemanly smile.

"Sawa-chan, if you ever need help, just ask me."

"Uh, thanks!"

Sawa knew Shuo's true nature after yesterday, but she played along, returning a sweet smile.

"Eww—!"

A chorus of boos rose from classmates who knew better.

Origami Tobiichi eyed Sawa with a hint of caution. This new rival was not to be underestimated.

Other students watched the easy camaraderie between Shuo, Kurumi, Tohka, Shiori, and Sawa, suspicion flickering—had they known the new girl before?

With the introductions done, Tamae-sensei moved on to the lesson. Shuo and his crew, of course, went back to their usual "studying"—or lack thereof.

But Sawa was different. Unlike the now-hedonistic Kurumi, the perpetually slacking Shuo, or the corrupted Tohka, Sawa was determined to make the most of her second chance at school. She'd vowed to be a model student.

At first, Tamae-sensei worried—why did the new girl choose the back row, so close to Shuo? Would Sawa end up corrupted, just like Yatogami-san?

But as she watched Sawa, Origami, and Shiori all listening intently, her worries eased.

There were still plenty of good students left.

Meanwhile, Shuo abandoned all pretense of elegance. He sprawled across his desk, black hair covering his eyes, and promptly drifted off to sleep.

Hours passed. By the last period, three o'clock, Shuo finally stirred, rubbing his eyes as the classroom buzzed with chatter. For some reason, Reine was at the podium.

"Not bad. I managed to sleep through the whole day," Shuo thought, stretching contentedly.

Honestly, he couldn't complain—this daily rhythm was pretty great. Freedom, beautiful Spirits, and the constant spark of romance. Who could say no to a life like this?

Tamae-sensei's voice rang out, drawing everyone's attention.

"Class, quiet down! The school has announced a trip next week. Make sure you're ready and prepared."

Cheers broke out instantly. Plans and excitement filled the air.

"What's a school trip?"

Shiori leaned over to explain—relaxation, new experiences, and, most importantly for Tohka, plenty of food.

Shuo's mind flashed with realization. If he remembered right, the Yamai twins—the eighth Spirits—would make their debut during this trip.

Suddenly, he found himself genuinely looking forward to it.
