Detective Cheng observe An Jian who was trying to walk in a bubbly manner but grimaced with certain movements. He walked up to An Jian and held her by her shoulders "Let's just walk slowly, I get it you don't want to stay in the Hospital and want to focus on your sister"
An Jian turned around to look at the Detective and blushed a little, "Thank you Detective".
They walked slowly to Detective Cheng's car, breaking the silence An Jian asked "Li Zhao is injured badly?"
"My sources say he is recovering, I'm surprised he is alive after you hit him"
An Jian turned around to face Detective Cheng walking backwards "He was my martial arts rival, this iron body level is probably about the same as mine, I bet he is fine, we should go see him tomorrow" An Jian looked at Detective Cheng excitedly.
Detective Cheng frowned unconvinced "How about you just focus on your recovery first"
When they got to the car, Detective Cheng opened the passenger door for An Jian and reached over and clicked her seat belt in.
An Jian examined the seat belt pulling it forward and letting it snap back, but Detective Cheng caught it before it could fully snap back "Be careful, your chest area is probably sensitive right now".
An Jian looked at the Detective surprised by why he was so caring then smiled "It's okay, I'm an iron body prodigy, not much can hurt me".
The Detective heeding her words let go of the strap which snapped back onto her chest causing An Jian to grimace in pain.
An Jian then followed up which a smile in response to the Detective's concerned expression.
As they drove An Jian sat cross legged on the seat and meditated focusing her internal energy to heal.
The detective secretly drove a longer route to allow An Jian to heal for longer.
Upon entering Detective Cheng's apartment in early evening, An Jian felt a sense of comfort, her amour was placed on a chair neatly and on the dining table were 2 DVDs, the ones she remembered seeing at Li Zhao's.
The DVDs were actually placed in Detective Cheng's mailbox with a note to let An Jian watch them, he wasn't sure if it was a sign of intimidation to show the Chum Li Gang knew where he lived or were they genuinely just trying to communicate with An Jian.
An Jian examined the DVD's "We can watch these?" pulling out the shiny flat cylinder, in her mind she was expecting something that looked more like a book.
Detective Cheng holding his phone "Have you seen a stage play? It's like that but we watch it on the TV" pointing to the TV.
An Jian looked at the TV trying to understand what the Detective meant with a confused expression.
Detective Cheng playing with his phone "I ordered some food, you must be hungry"
An Jian then fumbled through her armour and pulled out some money and walked over to the Detective "Let me pay for it, my treat since you have done so much to take care of me"
The Detective put his hand out to wave off An Jian but then looked at her suspiciously. "How did you get that money?". An Jian trying to push the money onto the Detective "I won it, no big deal for a martial arts prodigy like me" with a cheeky smile on her face.
Detective walked around the room avoiding An Jian who still chasing him with the money. He finally grabbed the DVD and placed it into an old gaming console "You wanted to watch this right?"
An Jian finally gave up chasing the detective and sat down on the sofa to watch the hypnotic TV DVD menu.
Detective Cheng looked at the mesmerized An Jian "Remember this is not real, and if you get scared, just tell me and I will turn it off"
An Jian laughed "Scared? I've fought in battles, they call me the Immortal Fang for my bravery, how could I be scared of some stage play?"
Detective Cheng looked at An Jian wide eye believing her but also seeing the cute petite girl in his old over sized T-Shirt and poofy sweat pants being some invincible general seem laughable. "Alright brave general, I shall start the movie"
The movie started with an eerie off key violin score as a horse and carriage made it's way up a dark stormy road leading to a distant foreboding tall castle.
An Jian leaned back into the sofa gripping the sofa cushion.
The detective checked on An Jian every few minutes or after an intense scenes.
An Jian now clinching her fist with a determined face making slight movements like she was dodging what was on screen.
A lady laid in bed in a dark candle lit room was spooked by a scratching sound, as she leaned over asking "Who's there" looking deep into a dark corner of the room, an off tune piano key and violin started hitting dramatically when from the dark shadows Dracula glided forward with fangs and dark circled yellow serpent eyes rushing towards the screen closer and closer.
An Jian finally lost it and unconsciously turned to bury her head in Detective Cheng's shoulder.
Detective Cheng with a smirk "Brave General, should I stop the movie?"
An Jian realized she was holding onto Detective Cheng let go quickly and sat up straight. "No don't stop, lets keep going"
Then a couple minutes later with perfect timing, just as another scene was becoming intense the doorbell rang and An Jian fell into the Detective's lap.
Detective Cheng paused the movie and An Jian sat back up embarrassed and catching her breath.
Detective Cheng laughed "The food is here, brave General"
Detective Cheng stepped out of the apartment to grab the food from the lobby.
An Jian sat there alone feeling on edge got up and started doing jumping jacks repeating to herself "This is just a stage play, just a stage play, just a stage play"
The Detective returned and opened the door unexpectedly causing An Jian to jump in response almost falling over.
Detective Cheng seeing An Jian was really on edge turned on more lights and started laying out the food spread. "It's okay, we don't need to watch these movies tonight, your not use to disassociating what you see on screen from reality yet, maybe we should watch something less scary to desensitize you first"
An Jian eyeing the food "No I'm fine, we don't have time for that let's continue watching"
Detective Cheng had ordered fried rice, fried noodles, fried chicken and broccoli beef dish. "Dig in' and handed her a plate"
An Jian filled the plate until there was no room left and started eating with a smile. With her mouth full "Th...is is ….delicious"
Detective Cheng laughed watching her eat like some high school athlete after a game. He randomly placed another piece of fried chicken onto her quickly emptying plate and An Jian smiled "T...hnaks"
An Jian took her plate and sat on the floor leaning against the foot of the sofa "lets...start...the movie again"
As the movie played again, she would look down and focus on eating whenever it got a little to intense.
Detective Cheng would continued to randomly walk over to top off her plate which she didn't refuse, knowing it was helping her deal with the horror movie.
All the food was gone by an hour into the movie, 80 percent of it going to An Jian, she could only deal with the movie with her own bravery now.
The movie started ramping up the jump scares and horror elements.
For Detective Cheng, it really wasn't scary, these were like old B movies that really didn't have the same affect on modern audiences.
An Jian sat back on the sofa moving in closer to Detective Cheng, sometimes holding onto his arm.
Detective Cheng blushed a little feeling like if he was on a date night, but he reminded himself they were just doing what they needed to help find An Jian's sister.
