Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Arcane Crisis

Magical energies can coexist and merge, or they can suppress and cancel each other out. In this world of magic, magical energy perpetually cycles.

The three Magisters, Nallorath, Belo'vir, and Rommath, reached a consensus. They decided to utilize a method derived from the most fundamental principles of magical energy to deal with the creatures wielding powerful arcane energy on the island of Quel'Danas.

The method was simple: high-level mages would work in pairs, opening a gap in the arcane barrier to extract the energy from the arcane creatures. Each mage would extract this portion of arcane energy and then find a high-level mage to team up with. The two mages would then coordinate to neutralize the two arcane energies.

However, this method had its drawbacks: the arcane creature within the barrier possessed a certain intelligence. Trapped within their arcane prison, they sought opportunities to break free.

To prevent this danger, Magister Rommath and Nallorath stood on the rooftop of the sanctums on either side of Dawning Square.

Using their powerful magical energy to protect and fill a specific gap, they would limit the arcane creatures' attempts to exploit it and tear through the entire barrier of the arcane prison.

Following Magister Nallorath's command, the high-ranking mages began preparing. Grand Magister Belo'vir beckoned Leylin to his side.

"Did you understand Magister Nallorath's method?" the teacher asked.

Leylin had memorized fundamental magical theories, such as the conservation of magical energy and the energy cycle. Magister Nallorath's method was merely an extension of basic magical theory, and Leylin understood it perfectly.

However, Leylin also deeply understood the immense difficulty of achieving precise control between the two mages, ensuring that the arcane energy they mobilized was completely neutralized.

Coordination between the two mages required a certain level of tacit understanding and adaptation. However, this challenge did not exist for Leylin and Belo'vir.

Their mastery of magic perfectly addressed such challenges.

Leylin understood his mentor's intention and skipped over the tedious questions, asking, "Teacher, can I help?"

"Of course. You can neutralize large amounts energy. I'll draw the array to drain the arcane energy for you." While Belo'vir was drawing the array for Leylin, he was also drawing his own.

Half a minute later, student and mentor were simultaneously working on neutralizing the energy of the array. Leylin was a quick learner. Although the two energies he mobilized were vast, he could perform the task with precision and perfection.

Leylin opened his arms wide, focusing on controlling the peak arcane energy he could withstand, and he controlled the energy mobilized by his left and right hands with exquisite precision.

Grand Magister Belo'vir mobilized the most arcane energy, dissipating a vast amount. Where he stood, the arcane creature's body shrank rapidly, causing its entire body to appear disproportionate.

With its drastic changes, the arcane creature began to violently ram against the barrier. It knew its arcane energy would be absorbed by these creatures, so it simply released it without restraint.

A vast amount of arcane energy converged, transforming into arcane energy. Simply put, the compression of arcane energy could potentially produce a powerful explosion.

The worst fears of all the mages present had come true. It was still daytime, and the island of Quel'Danas should have been bathed in the sun's rays, a scene of tranquility.

But today was different. The arcane energy surging from the towering arcane barrier had stained the entire northern side of the island purple, the color of arcane energy.

Magisters atop the temples on either side of the square gathered immense amounts of magical energy to continue enhancing the barrier's strength.

Furthermore, all the high-ranking mages concentrated their minds, determined to quickly extract all the arcane energy from the arcane creature to minimize its danger.

Across Quel'Danas, the island was silent, save for the rustling of leaves in the wind and the piercing sound of arcane energy.

The operation was swift, and the high-ranking mages realized they were at their most perilous stage. To prevent the powerful arcane energy from escalating and affecting the holy land and their lives, they accelerated their efforts to dissipate the energy.

The tense atmosphere caused Elna, who was watching from the sidelines, to stand up. Beside her stood another battle mage, Byleth.

"We've entered the most dangerous phase, haven't we?" Elna asked.

Byleth nodded, acknowledging Elna's statement. Elna looked around at all the mages in Dawning Square.

Only two of them maintained a calm demeanor: Belo'vir and his student, Leylin.

Looking at Leylin, Elna murmured, "How can a low-level mage dissipate this large arcane energy on his own? Is it just because he's the student of Grand Magister Belo'vir?"

Leylin had a deep understanding of the changes within the barrier. The unstable flow of arcane energy caused the arcane energy the mages extracted to become extremely unstable as well. Leylin understood the reason for this change.

The mobilization of arcane energy must be accelerated. This arcane creature had gone mad.

The changes in the energy mobilized by Leylin caught the attention of Belo'vir, who reminded Leylin, "Trust Nallorath and Rommath, they can control the overall situation. Handle it at the original speed."

"Understood, Teacher."

After an hour of smooth transition, the size of the arcane creatures within the barrier was reduced by more than half. In addition to the size, the arcane energy released wantonly by the arcane creature was also stripped away.

Success is at hand.

The price of such a smooth transition is the two great magisters who have overdrawn nearly half of their magical energy.

The face of Magister Nallorath looked more and more haggard, and his face was the same color as the temples at his hairline, white.

Magister Rommath was breathing heavily. He was still young, but his spirit was a little weak.

Grand Magister Belo'vir nodded to Leylin and said, "Keep going, I'll replace them."

Nodding to the two magisters, Nallorath and Rommath used the [Slow Fall] spell to descend from the temple's top floor.

They took over Belo'vir's position. Leylin looked at his teacher with admiration. It must be said that among all the mages present, including the most experienced Nallorath, the most powerful magister was Belo'vir.

Perhaps sensing Leylin's admiration, Magister Nallorath, who was standing beside Leylin, said, "This is your goal, student."

Leylin was stunned, then nodded confidently. "My aim to be strongest in this world." Leylin muttered quietly with a determined gaze.
