"Batman!"
George's voice carried both surprise and relief."I knew it! You'd never let the Foot Clan run wild!"
"Batman!"
Pinned beneath Anton's boot, Shredder roared furiously. His forearms bristled with blades that sprang out like porcupine quills. In one swift motion, he flipped his body and slashed upward at Anton.
Whoosh!
Anton pulled George back and flashed aside, retreating to the entrance of the Sacks Corporation building.
Outside—
A few fearless onlookers, upon seeing Batman appear, began screaming like diehard fans at a concert.
Of course, they weren't suicidal—they kept a safe distance.
"Batman!"
"Go, Batman! Take down those thugs!"
The shouts echoed through the street, and George couldn't help looking a little exasperated.
It was clear that Batman's popularity in New York had reached a level beyond imagination.
Even when the NYPD task force took action, nobody ever cheered for them. Not one "good luck."People only showed up to gawk, eat popcorn, and watch the show.
But now?It felt like Batman was holding a live concert, complete with fans cheering their idol.
George gathered his thoughts, his eyes turning serious as he looked at the man in silver samurai armor before them—Shredder.
"Batman, you're going to hand him over to the NYPD this time, right?"
George wasn't afraid Batman wouldn't act—he was afraid Batman would defeat Shredder and then just take him away again.
If that happened once more, he'd have a hard time explaining it to his superiors!
But then, he got an answer he never expected.
"That question," Anton said calmly, "isn't for me to answer. He's not my opponent. Today, I'm just… a spectator."
"What?"
George was dumbfounded.
Not your opponent? A spectator? Are you kidding me? Look around—do you think the crowd's gonna let you "just watch"?
Before he could process it all, something even more shocking happened.
Several mutant turtles burst through the wall of the lobby and landed on the first floor, right in front of George.
"What the—"
George turned to Batman, stunned. "Who are they? Why are they here?"
"They're Shredder's opponents," Anton replied evenly.
"Turtles?"
Shredder blinked in confusion, then glared at Batman. He didn't even spare the turtles a serious glance.
"You expect them to be my opponents? Batman, are you mocking me?"
His low growl was filled with fury.
A warrior's pride could not tolerate such humiliation.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
His arms trembled as the blades rose once again, glinting under the light.
Then, with a sharp motion, he fired them out—a storm of blades, dense and relentless, shooting toward Anton and George like torrential rain.
The air screamed as the blades cut through it.
George's face paled.
But beside him, Batman didn't even flinch.
"Relax, George," Anton said calmly, as if commenting on the weather. "The turtles will handle the Foot Clan."
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The turtles leaped forward, spinning their weapons and deflecting every flying blade.
The sharp sound of metal clashing rang through the lobby.
In the blink of an eye, the four turtles had surrounded Shredder, their weapons flashing as they pressed him back.
"What are those things…?"
George swallowed hard. He watched the turtles' agile movements, their impossible reflexes, their bizarre appearance—and couldn't help recalling the Lizard Man incident from before.
"Batman… you sure they're not, you know… working with the Lizard Man?"
"Of course not. They're creations of the Foot Clan themselves," Anton explained calmly. "This is revenge—their revenge against the Foot Clan."
George frowned, still confused, but at least he understood one thing:These turtle people weren't the bad guys.
"So you're really not going to help them?"
After a moment of silence, George couldn't help asking again.
The fight between Shredder and the turtles was intense.Even the remaining task force members had quietly backed away, leaving the battlefield to them.
None of them dared fire a shot—the movements were too fast, too chaotic, too dangerous for stray bullets.
Besides, Shredder's silver samurai armor was bulletproof, and the turtles…well, judging by how they'd shrugged off gunfire during the Green Goblin incident, their shells were just as tough.
They didn't need help.
And even if the turtles did lose—wasn't Batman standing right there next to the Commissioner? He'd step in if things went south.
Everyone could see it clearly now—Batman was here to train his underlings.
And those turtle people? They were obviously his disciples.
Just like during the Green Goblin event, when that Spider-Man kid obeyed Batman's every command.
All animal-themed heroes, yet somehow it was always the Bat in charge.
Probably because… the bat had the hardest punches.
"No one looks down on me!"
After being tangled up with the turtles for so long, Shredder's rage finally exploded.
His thinking wasn't all that different from the task force's.
To him, the turtles were Batman's underlings. And the fact that Batman refused to fight him personally—clearly meant he was being used as a training dummy.
A stepping stone!
For a proud master of ninjutsu, that was unbearable.
He didn't know that those turtles were, in fact, products of a decades-old Sacks Corporation experiment,an experiment led by his own adopted son and subordinate—Eric Sacks.
Shredder only knew about the gas project, not the other experiments.
And even if he had known that the turtles sought vengeance against the Foot Clan, his fury would have been the same.
Because Batman's attitude said it all—
He was being looked down upon!
"You'll pay for this!"
Shredder roared, teeth gritted, his mind clouded by rage.He went all out, clashing head-on with the turtles.
He sent Leonardo flying with a swing of his blade, then smashed Michelangelo aside with a punch. He turned toward the remaining two—Donatello and Raphael—standing firmly in his path.
"Our fight's not over. We won't let you pass!" Raphael declared fiercely.
"That's right," Donatello added, his tone deep. "If you want to fight Batman, you'll have to get through us first."
"Your opponents… are us!"
Behind Shredder, the fallen Leonardo and Michelangelo climbed back to their feet—one raising his twin katanas, the other spinning his nunchaku.
All four stood together again, their faces full of unshakable resolve.
Not far away, Anton smiled.
George, watching this scene, felt an inexplicable rush of awe.
An idea suddenly struck him.
"Batman," he said tentatively, "these turtle people—they're like… rookie superheroes, right?"
"What are you getting at?"
Anton's eyes stayed on the battle, but he glanced sideways at George, curious.
"Well…" George rubbed his hands together, smiling slyly."Since you're training them, have you thought about… letting them join the NYPD task force?"
"The task force could really use more talent right now! And, uh—well, turtle people count as talent too… I'd be more than happy to recruit them!"
