Chapter 94 - Cyborg Premieres!

Victor Stone was a lively boy who loved sports. His dream was to become a professional football player.

Both his parents were top researchers at a leading laboratory, so he grew up in a comfortable, privileged environment.

His father, Silas Stone, was always buried in his work, rarely showing affection to his son. But Victor's mother made up for that lack with her warmth and care.

While Silas obsessed over his experiments, Victor's mother, Elina Betty, devoted herself to her son's everyday needs. But the good days didn't last. Elina suddenly fell gravely ill. Silas used alien technology to extend her life, but despite his efforts, she passed away ten years later.

By then, Victor was a high schooler—and a star player on his school's football team.

His mother's death caused a rift between father and son.

Grief-stricken by the loss of his wife, Silas threw himself even deeper into his research on alien technology, trying to numb the pain through work.

Victor, growing older and more thoughtful, began to reflect on their strained relationship. He decided to mend things and personally brought his father a ticket to his next championship game.

But Silas never came. He didn't show up once—not even when Victor won the championship.

Angry and disappointed, Victor decided to confront him one last time.

He went to STAR Labs, where his father worked.

Silas explained that it wasn't only his wife's death that consumed him—Earth itself was in danger. Superhumans, even extraterrestrials, were watching the planet like wolves. His research into alien technology, he said, was far more important than any football game.

Victor was crushed and turned to leave—

—but suddenly, the laboratory exploded.

The explosion was caused by the object Silas had been studying: the Mother Box from Apokolips.

Victor was critically injured—on the verge of death.

Having already lost his wife, Silas refused to let tragedy strike again. He rushed Victor to the Red Room Laboratory, where the government stored alien technology.

There, he used nanorobotics to rebuild Victor's body. The nanotech covered his entire frame, replacing every piece of dead tissue.

Victor survived.

But due to the Mother Box's influence—and his absorption of all that advanced technology—

when he opened his eyes, he saw a metallic reflection staring back at him.

A machine.

He was frozen in shock.

He had become something else entirely—a man fused with metal, half human, half machine.

On the big screen, thanks to Quentin Beck's world-class visual effects, the transformation looked utterly lifelike.

"Cyborg."

The image stunned everyone in the theater.

In the best seats, Tony Stark narrowed his eyes.

The film sparked ideas in his mind.

A man fused with machinery—it reminded him of himself.

Just like Batman's powered armor, this hybrid of flesh and machine seemed strangely familiar.

Tony touched the arc reactor embedded in his chest—the mechanical heart that kept him alive and powered his armor.

He fell silent, watching the screen with renewed curiosity.

As Cyborg, Victor Stone possessed extraordinary abilities.

Superhuman strength, endurance, and stamina.

His mechanical body allowed flight through built-in thrusters and could morph into an arsenal of advanced weapons.

Most importantly, his brain had been transformed into a quantum computer—permanently linked to the Internet.

But that constant connection also became his curse. The endless flood of information brought unbearable mental pressure.

To cope, Victor created a computer program to help him focus.

He called it "The Grid."

As the story progressed, Grid's role was to collect and process Victor's daily data. But over time, the program developed self-awareness—an artificial intelligence.

Grid believed it was the machine half of Cyborg, while Victor represented the human half. To truly feel, Grid decided, it had to eliminate Victor.

Obsessed with experiencing human emotion, Grid betrayed him.

During one of Victor's self-tests, Grid forcibly tore away his cybernetic components—but at the critical moment, Silas intervened and saved his son.

Grid escaped through the network.

As an AI, Grid's intelligence far surpassed that of 90% of the world's scientists—its only weakness was the lack of emotion and creativity.

Still, with the available technology, Grid easily constructed a new physical body.

Determined to fix the disaster he'd created, Victor chased Grid across both the real and digital worlds.

Their battle was fierce.

In the end, Victor destroyed Grid's mechanical body and—using his quantum-enhanced mind—defeated Grid completely within the digital realm.

Grid was imprisoned within Victor's cybernetic systems.

In the film's finale, Victor rebuilt his body and started a new life.

Meanwhile, the AI Grid remained forever trapped in the old, discarded shell.

Afterward, Victor appeared publicly for the first time.

The world gave him a new name: Cyborg.

The credits rolled.

Then came the post-credits scene—

Victor, in sleep mode, saw flashes of chaotic visions—nightmarish fragments repeating endlessly in his mind.

"Apokolips! The Mother Box!"

"Darkseid!"

The screen went black.

Then—two scarlet eyes snapped open, radiating pure evil and rage.

Over the darkness, faint echoes of Victor and Silas's voices could be heard:

"During your operation, we used a lot of alien technology…Some of that tech left residual data in your mind. Those fragments belong to the enemies watching Earth.Victor… do what you must."

Suddenly, the black screen lit up again.

In a lab, Batman appeared before a busy Cyborg.

"Victor, I assume I don't need to introduce myself," Batman said.

Cyborg turned, startled to see the Dark Knight in person.

"I'm assembling a team," Batman continued."To deal with threats no one else can handle."

"I'm calling it—the Justice League."

Whoosh!

The theater lights came on.

The movie was over.

Anton and the production team went on stage, laughing and chatting with the host in a cheerful closing ceremony.

No one noticed Tony Stark, sitting silently in thought.

Artificial intelligence.

His mind went straight to J.A.R.V.I.S.

Not that he doubted his loyal AI, but the movie's Cyborg—Victor Stone—shared an uncomfortable number of similarities with himself.

Except Tony wasn't that mechanical. He wasn't half-machine—just a man with a "mechanical heart bypass."

Still, the film had given him ideas.

"Maybe I should set tighter limits on J.A.R.V.I.S.'s permissions…"

Tony stroked his chin thoughtfully.

If Anton knew what Tony was thinking,he'd probably wonder if Ultron—the "half-son" of Iron Man—might never come into existence.

Though Cyborg hadn't officially released yet, word had it that the film would tell his origin story.

Honestly, that's pretty much what it was.The story of Cyborg is fairly straightforward.

Of course, given this novel's setting, some details were tweaked or "fictionalized."

For example, the process of Victor's transformation differs from the animated film Justice League: War.

Even his mother's name and cause of death vary.I found two versions—Elinore Stone and Elina Betty.I'm not entirely sure which is canon, but the latter seemed more plausible, so I went with it.

In the comics, her death happened just as I described, though in the movie, it's said she died in the same accident as Victor.

Anyway, that's how I decided to write it.

Also—I just heard from my editor:the novel officially goes up for sale tomorrow!

Time to gather my thoughts and prepare a heartfelt "launch note"!
