When Anton got home and saw Jameson, there was an older man sitting with him. He had white hair, but he looked energetic and imposing, with an air of authority.
This man was John Keller.
Keller often appeared on the news, so as someone who was, in a way, a journalist, Anton wasn't exactly unfamiliar with him.
As it turned out, Keller wasn't unfamiliar with him either.
Otherwise, Keller wouldn't have specifically requested to see him.
And he'd gone through the old man, Jameson, to arrange the meeting.
This seemed to suggest that Keller had no ill intentions.
"Mr. Keller, it's a pleasure to meet you. You seem even more imposing in person than you do on the news."
Anton shook hands with Keller.
"Anton, you're more energetic than the files suggest."
Keller said with a smile.
Files?
Anton subtly narrowed his eyes.
"Relax."
Keller noticed the slight shift in Anton's mood and laughed. "I have no ill intentions, or else I wouldn't have gone through Jameson to contact you! After all, I am the Secretary of Defense."
"Keller and I are old friends."
Beside him, Jameson spoke, hinting at something: "Anton, Keller wants to see you about the Justice League."
"The Justice League?"
Anton put away his surprise and said seriously, "Mr. Keller, since you're the Secretary of Defense, I'll be frank. I can indeed contact the Justice League, but I'm just a small player. I don't know what your purpose is."
"About the Aliens."
Seeing Anton's cooperation, Keller didn't mince words: "The recent Alien attack, and the Daily Bugle's news reports, have shown the world the reality of Aliens. But there's one thing you might not know, and only a very few people in the world are aware of it."
"What is it?"
Anton and Jameson looked equally interested.
"The recent Alien invasion wasn't the first time Earth has encountered Aliens."
Keller spoke slowly.
"So, you discovered the Aliens a long time ago?"
Jameson was taken aback.
As a media mogul, there were few secrets in the world that could escape him, including those only circulated among politicians.
However, such classified information was indeed something he'd never encountered.
"That's right."
Keller nodded, staring at the two men before him. He said in a low voice, "We discovered the Aliens' tracks as early as the beginning of the last century. According to our investigation, the Aliens landed on Earth thousands of years ago, when humans were still living a primitive existence."
"The beginning of the last century?"
Now it was Anton's turn to be surprised.
Wait a minute! He'd thought Keller was going to talk about the Kree invasion of the 1990s!
He hadn't expected the early 20th century.
What kind of plot was this? "The aliens, we call them NBEs, Non-Biological Entities."
Keller said, "From the outside, it looks like a very advanced robot, but in reality, it's a mechanical life form..."
He paused, looking up sharply at Anton, his meaning clear: "Like Cyborg from the Justice League, except Cyborg is half-human, half-machine, while the NBE-ONE we discovered is a pure mechanical life form."
"Pure mechanical life form…"
Anton murmured the words, an incredibly unbelievable thought forming in his mind. Swish! Keller opened the laptop in front of him, turning the screen to face Anton and Jameson. "This is NBE-ONE."
In the video, a robot, its entire body covered in frost and resembling a small mountain, stood in the center. Cables were plugged into it, and you could occasionally see people removing something from the robot, causing sparks to fly.
"In the early part of the last century, a captain named Wittwicky discovered it. We expended a great deal of effort to extract it from the glacier and have been using technology to keep it frozen. Later research determined that it was either in a deep sleep or completely dead!"
Keller said, "But we learned a great deal from it, it's almost the source of our current technology. Integrated circuits, lasers, spaceships, cars, etc., all came from studying it."
"You suspect that the Aliens that invaded Earth recently were after this... NBE-ONE?"
Jameson couldn't help but speak up at this point.
"Correct."
Keller nodded, operating his laptop and bringing up another video: "Actually, even before the Aliens appeared, we discovered traces of living, purely mechanical Aliens on Mars, the NBEs. After that, we've been on guard against them coming to Earth, but we didn't expect them to find an opportunity."
"Mind Transfer Device..."
John Keller glanced at Anton, his expression grave. "I have to admit, the technology these Aliens possess is beyond our ability to defend against."
"So, you need the Justice League's help."
Hearing Keller mention the Mind Transfer Device, Anton remained impassive, subtly understanding Keller's goal.
"Not help, cooperation," Keller replied.
"Since you also have access to certain information, there's a basis for cooperation between you and the military."
Keller added, "After all, the Justice League would prefer to operate openly, rather than continuing to enforce justice as vigilantes, wouldn't you agree?"
Now Anton understood.
John Keller learned from Nick Fury and the World Security Council about the Justice League's quest for legal recognition. Coupled with the recent alien attack in New York, the military saw the Justice League's potential.
Under the threat of the Aliens, the military had designs on the Justice League, who had resolved the New York alien attack.
Since they were operating on their territory, it was naturally necessary to bring this extraordinary power under their control.
Coincidentally, Nick Fury reported the Justice League's situation to the World Security Council.
The American representative on the World Security Council then informed the military.
Consequently, after deliberation, the military committee, consisting of the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Chiefs of Staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, decided that the Secretary of Defense, John Keller, who had connections with Jameson, should approach Anton and attempt to bring the Justice League into the military's fold.
Don't underestimate the Justice League.
According to the military's assessment, the Justice League's current power, when gathered together, was no weaker than an army.
If they could really win over the Justice League, wouldn't they be able to point and command wherever they wanted in the future?
The military wasn't stupid.
Even General Ross, who had courted death, wasn't actually stupid; he was just too arrogant, which cost him his life.
"Mr. Keller, I can't answer you about this matter for the time being."
Anton pondered for a moment.
"I know Batman is the leader among you."
Keller nodded, his tone gentle, but with an undeniable air of authority: "I don't have much time. I hope you can contact Batman, and I want to see him immediately."
Hearing this, Jameson subconsciously became nervous.
He knew Anton's true identity, and he knew Anton was constantly trying to conceal it.
Judging by Keller's tone, he wouldn't give up until he saw Batman today.
Could it be that Anton was going to expose himself?
