Chapter 159 - Is This a Time for Jokes?

While Optimus Prime was astonished that the Justice League possessed such advanced technology as interstellar teleportation, the Decepticons on Earth had already begun their silent operations.

Starscream, Brawl, and Vortex were heading towards the Hoover Dam.

They moved with incredible speed, arriving near the Hoover Dam within approximately fifteen minutes from their original military base.

There were many tourists, and vehicles were parked along the roadside.

But no one knew that inside the Hoover Dam, there was a secret base belonging to Sector 7.

If Starscream hadn't infiltrated the military base, connected to the military's computer network, and if Vortex hadn't attacked the Qatar base, completely copying the data from the military computers, he wouldn't have been able to pinpoint the location of Sector 7's base so quickly.

He stared at the mountainside next to the Hoover Dam.

"The Allspark is in there."

Starscream descended from the sky, transforming into his robot form.

He glanced at his companions.

"Let's move, Decepticons!"

At Hoover Dam, the head of Sector 7, Tom Bannachek, had just come out of the White House.

However, Tom didn't rush to leave, instead waiting outside the White House.

A moment later.

Keller walked out from inside, his expression grave, clearly in a foul mood.

"Mr. Keller."

Tom greeted him, stepping forward. "What did the President say?"

"Tom, you didn't tell me the whole truth."

Keller's face was grim. He glared at Tom and snorted. "I don't like being kept in the dark, especially when we're supposed to be on the same side."

"I knew it!"

Tom understood what had happened immediately and said helplessly, "The research on the Allspark is Sector 7's biggest secret, even more important than NBE-ONE. In short, fewer people know about this than you'd imagine."

"You're so confident you can build a mechanical army?"

Keller stared at Tom.

"No."

Tom shook his head. "That was before we encountered Batman, and before the Transformers."

"What do you mean? What are you trying to say?" Keller frowned.

"Back in the last century, we found the Allspark. We've been studying it for decades. From knowing nothing at first, to barely being able to use it... it's really only been in the last few years, since the technological revolution really took off."

Tom said gravely, "In fact, just when we thought we could master the Allspark's power and were ready to make a big move, aliens started showing up one after another... Their understanding of the Allspark is far beyond ours! Even Batman can easily say the name and origin of the Allspark... That makes me afraid. We seem to have underestimated the Allspark!"

"Afraid? The President doesn't think so. I see ambition in his eyes."

Keller sneered, "If you hadn't painted such a rosy picture for him, I doubt he'd be so resolute today."

"It's no use dwelling on that now. I need to get back to the base at Hoover Dam immediately. Are you coming with me?"

"Of course!"

The two of them got into a car.

However, after only a few minutes, they were back at the White House, their faces etched with anxiety, knocking on the door of the Oval Office once more.

"What is it this time?"

The President looked at Tom and Keller, a hint of surprise in his expression.

"Something's happened!"

Tom gritted his teeth. "Mr. President, Sector 7's Hoover Dam base has been attacked by unknown assailants."

"Not unknown! It's Transformers! Or rather, Decepticons!"

Keller added, "We need to mobilize the military immediately and head to Hoover Dam. We can't let those Decepticons get inside the base!"

"Shit!"

The President was shocked.

The Hoover Dam base was under attack by the Decepticons. Inside the White House, the President frantically contacted the military, informing them of the situation and issuing orders to mobilize and deploy troops.

Immediately, military bases near Hoover Dam began to take action.

The atmosphere instantly felt like it was charged with explosives, the air thick with the smell of gunpowder.

The White House.

Keller and Tom faced each other.

"Should we notify Batman?"

Tom hesitated.

"No need."

Keller was now the one who seemed helpless. He said, "The Military Committee believes we can handle this problem. Also, though they didn't explicitly say it, they think Batman's primary task is to hold back the other faction of Transformers, the Autobots, and prevent them from interfering with our fight—apparently, Batman has already succeeded."

"Alright."

...

The universe, a certain galaxy, a war fortress.

Anton didn't pay much attention to what was happening on Earth at the moment.

However, that didn't mean he was unaware.

Didn't he maintain a Cyborg avatar specifically to monitor the situation?

To be honest, through Cyborg's perspective, hearing from Keller and others that the Decepticons had already locked onto the location of Hoover Dam and launched an attack…

Anton was quite surprised.

Cyborg switched perspectives, locating Hoover Dam, and found that the network near Sector 7 had been cut off. He immediately sensed something was up; things were developing much faster than he had anticipated.

"Also."

The online discussions of the military committee didn't escape Cyborg's surveillance.

"No need to inform Batman, let him hold back the Autobots! Our military will take care of all the trouble."

As expected, this sentence was entirely within Anton's expectations.

The military wouldn't rely on superheroes for everything. The reason Keller was used to win over the Justice League was most likely for strategic considerations, rather than tactical ones.

"Batman, what are you thinking?"

Optimus Prime noticed Batman's unusual behavior and brought Anton back to reality.

"Nothing."

Anton looked up at Optimus Prime. "I thought it would take at least another day or two. Turns out the Decepticons are smarter than I expected."

"Oh?"

Optimus Prime understood immediately.

"Optimus Prime, gather the Autobots. It's time for us to move!"

After Anton finished speaking, he looked at Cyborg.

"The Hoover Dam coordinates have been locked."

Cyborg said to Optimus Prime with a blank expression, "Tell me the coordinates of the other Autobots, and I will bring them to the Hoover Dam together."

Inside the White House.

Whether it was the President, Tom, or Keller, they all held a degree of confidence, not succumbing to utter despair.

After the alien attack in New York, and with the preparations for "welcoming" the aliens having been done relatively well, Sector 7 had a special operations team stationed within its base. These were battle-hardened veterans, equipped with considerable firepower, and were expected to hold out until military reinforcements arrived.

The special operations team included Lennox, who had survived the attack on the Qatar military base, along with Epps and others under his command.

This, in summary, was the biggest reason why the President and the military committee had a certain degree of confidence in the military operation to counterattack the aliens.

However, they clearly didn't have a clear enough understanding of the enemy.

This included Keller and Tom.

These two had only seen Cyborg thrashing the Decepticons, but they hadn't truly realized just how powerful the Decepticons, the ruthless and cold Transformers from Cybertron, truly were.

Half an hour later.

Regardless of how they tried, everyone inside the White House no longer received any reports from Sector 7.

Another half hour passed.

Zzzt! The communication line was re-established.

"What's the situation?"

Tom was impatient: "What's happening? Are you alright?"

Silence on the other end.

"I'm sorry."

The person on the other end of the phone sounded shocked, with a hint of sorrow in their voice: "We're too late! Hoover Dam, Sector 7 base has been reduced to ruins… it seems like everyone's gone."

Everyone's gone?

Tom and Keller exchanged glances, their eyes filled with immense shock and confusion.

Just like that, everyone was gone?

"What's left of the base? Did you see a giant robot frozen in ice, or a giant cube?"

Keller, his expression serious, asked again.

"No, there's nothing."

The man on the phone replied: "Just a wasteland. Occasionally, we see some limbs and fragments. The entire Sector 7 is buried. There's nothing we can do."

"Any sign of the enemy?"

"No. We heard a huge explosion in the distance a few minutes before we arrived. Thinking back, perhaps Sector 7 was destroyed by some weapon at that moment."

"What in the world is going on?"

Tom and Keller exchanged bewildered glances.

What exactly happened?

Let's rewind the clock thirty minutes.

The Decepticons, consisting of the remaining three – Starscream, Brawl, and Vortex – along with their mechanical pet, Scorponok, arrived at the Hoover Dam.

They made no attempt to conceal themselves.

The sudden appearance of the giant robots sent the tourists at the Hoover Dam into a frenzy of screams and fright.

People started taking photos, intending to upload them online, but found there was no signal available.

How could this happen?

That's because Starscream casually destroyed the Hoover Dam's signal tower, cutting off the signals and wireless networks in the area to avoid attracting attention online.

Although the Transformers didn't take humans seriously, too many ants could still be troublesome.

Moreover, the loss of contact with Barricade, Frenzy, and Bonecrusher made Starscream feel that this Earth wasn't as simple as he'd previously thought.

Following that, they sent Scorponok in first, allowing it to enter the Sector 7 entrance.

Having no interest in the tourists on the dam, Starscream, Brawl, and Vortex entered Sector 7 together.

The internal passage of the dam could definitely accommodate Transformers in robot mode.

Otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to transport Megatron inside.

However, since the passage wasn't large, the Transformers could only pass through one at a time.

This gave humanity a chance to strike back.

Upon realizing they had intruders, Sector 7 immediately assembled its forces. The soldiers, each with a broad frame, stood inside the massive passage, preparing to stop the invaders.

However, they were surprised to find that the first thing they faced wasn't a Transformer, but a mechanical scorpion.

"It's him again!"

Lennox gritted his teeth. "Epps, last time we only took off one of its tails. This time, we're taking it down. We need to buy time for the base personnel to escape, and we're going to avenge our fallen brothers!"

"Don't worry, boss!"

Epps and his comrades laughed heartily.

They knew Lennox was just talking big, but in a situation like this, they truly had no way out.

Scorponok!

This thing's size was comparable to an ordinary car, but the threat it posed was no less than that of a tank or armored vehicle, maybe even more.

Scorponok roared as it charged into the tunnel, its silver body reflecting a cold light.

The soldiers pulled their triggers.

Ordinary thermal weapons couldn't penetrate Scorponok's outer shell, dealing no damage whatsoever.

"Damn it!"

"Watch out!"

Lennox exclaimed.

At the center of Scorponok's massive pincers, there was actually a huge cannon hidden, gathering terrifying energy fluctuations, which then burst out, landing at the soldiers' feet.

Boom!

A group of soldiers went down.

The remaining soldiers exchanged glances, and Lennox asked, "What about the escape routes?"

"The escape routes are open. The researchers are evacuating!"

"What's the Pentagon saying? Those damn politicians haven't decided to send in the troops yet?"

"No signal, unable to communicate! The base's internal wired network has been cut!"

"Damn it!"

Lennox exchanged a few words, keeping an eye on the time while attacking.

However.

Boom!

Another huge roar echoed.

They saw three robots as gigantic as NBE-ONE entering Sector 7's underground base, and suddenly understood.

It's NBE, Non-Biological Extraterrestrials! These are NBE-ONE's kin! The three giant robots arrived at the underground base. Their gazes completely ignored the soldiers behind the cover, instead focusing on the center of the base, on the towering, ice-encased NBE-ONE.

"Megatron has fallen into slumber?"

Starscream's eyes flashed, "So that's how it is."

"We should release him."

Vortex was excited; he was fiercely loyal to Megatron.

Bang!

He was about to step forward, but Starscream slapped him down.

"You want to fight?"

Huge sparks erupted from the ground as Vortex flipped over and glared at Starscream.

"Vortex, you can't release Megatron!"

Starscream hissed quietly, "I'm in charge of the Decepticons now! As long as we get the Allspark, it doesn't matter if we have Megatron or not. The Decepticons will rule the universe. We'll release Megatron when we've conquered the universe, and I believe he'll be willing to serve me then."

"Vortex, listen to him."

Brawl sneered, saying nothing more. The situation was clear, so anything was possible.

In truth, he didn't care who was in charge.

Compared to the brutal Megatron, Starscream was much easier to manipulate.

"Damn it!"

Vortex's eyes flashed. He didn't want to fall out with Starscream just yet, intending to deal with it after obtaining the Allspark.

However...

He needed to vent his anger somehow.

He fixed his gaze on the few human soldiers behind the cover.

"Damn it!"

Lennox gritted his teeth, shouting, "Get clear! Everyone, get clear!"

BOOM!

But before Lennox and the others could react, Vortex unleashed a terrifying energy blast upon them.

Before the blast even hit, they felt their hair stand on end, their scalps tingling.

WHOOSH!

The energy blast moved at incredible speed.

The soldiers' pupils dilated as they watched the blue light rapidly approach, covering the distance in less than a blink of an eye.

Of course, that single blink felt like an eternity to them, as if they were going through a complete cycle.

BOOM!!

A massive shockwave erupted in front of them.

They felt a powerful gust of wind buffet their faces.

This was the aura of life.

Turning their heads, they saw a silver figure standing before them.

The silver figure had an invisible barrier in front of his chest, which blocked the energy cannon blast. The impact of the collision sent the wind raging.

The soldiers recognized the person and were ecstatic.

Cyborg!

"Step back, all of you."

Suddenly, another voice echoed nearby.

A tall man emerged from the shadows behind them, his cape billowing. Two pointed ears were clearly visible atop his head.

Batman!

In this era where superheroes were "going against the grain" everywhere...

Even these battle-hardened soldiers were familiar with the dazzling superstars that were the superheroes.

Especially the recently prominent Batman, and Cyborg, who was only slightly less famous than Batman.

"What are you doing here?"

The leading soldier was greatly encouraged.

"Not just us!"

Batman replied calmly, "The enemy of our enemy has also arrived!"

The enemy of our enemy?

That means friends!

Lennox was startled at first. Then, as he realized the implication, he saw a convoy of cars speeding into the passageway outside.

Screech! Screech! Screech!

The cars left tire marks on the ground as they screeched to a halt inside the base, surrounding the three robots. They almost filled the space, which, from a Transformer's perspective, wasn't very large.

"Huh?"

Lennox, seeing a pile of cars entering the base, initially thought they were reinforcements. He was overjoyed, but then he noticed that the driver's seats of these cars were all empty, and he was immediately dumbfounded.

What's going on?

His gaze swept over the lead Western Star Truck, then to the Camaro, the Pontiac, the Hummer H2, and the Black GMC (TopKick C4500) behind it...

"The enemy of our enemy... is just a few cars?"

"What in the world is this?"

Lennox was dumbfounded.

If the situation wasn't so urgent, and if the person speaking to him wasn't Batman, he'd have slapped him.

Was this a time for jokes?
