Over several empty bottles of vodka, Diana took another sip and stared at Lin Chen.
"You remember that jiangtou sorcerer from a few days ago? He was sent to kill me. And that same group sent three more monks afterward."
Lin Chen nodded. "Exactly. That's why I came to New York—I was waiting for them."
Diana looked him up and down. "And instead of drinking with me, you come only when trouble shows up. So those three monks are finally taken care of?"
"Smart." Lin Chen laughed lightly and reached over to brush a hand through Diana's dark curls.
"Talk properly. What's with the hands?" Diana knocked his hand away, took another drink, and asked lazily, "Why do so many women like you?"
Lin Chen leaned back with a smirk. "People ask me that all the time. But if I list all my strengths, I'll still be talking tomorrow morning."
Diana clicked her tongue. "Such a narcissist. I honestly don't understand what's so good about you."
"Then why do you watch my livestreams?" Lin Chen countered.
Diana simply pointed at the alcohol on the table.
Lin Chen let out a helpless laugh and took a sip. The burn hit his throat like fire.
"Fine. Because I look good and I'm pleasing to the eye."
Lin Chen nodded. There it was—the universal male–female gap in full display.
"You're petty," Diana continued, "If someone offends you, you get revenge immediately. But you also help people. You're very… human. Real. Not like most people."
Lin Chen raised an eyebrow. "That almost sounds like a compliment."
Diana chuckled into her glass.
They kept drinking, trading questions back and forth. And the more they drank, the more unrestrained the questions became.
Lin Chen suddenly asked, "I've always wondered—Paradise Island has no men. How are children born there?"
"Why is that any of your business?" Diana nearly kicked him.
"They're all immortal," she grumbled. "No one needs children. As for me… I was supposedly created by Zeus. At least, that's what the legends say."
Lin Chen's eyes lit up. "Can I visit next time? Paradise Island—your daughter country—uh, I mean, your—never mind. I want to learn from the female warriors."
Diana immediately shook her head. "Keep dreaming."
Lin Chen threw another question. "Have you ever been in a relationship?"
Diana's expression grew calm. "For a few days. During World War I. A pilot from the Eagle Country. He… died shortly after we held hands."
Lin Chen exhaled in relief. So the whole Wonder Woman 1984 plot never happened. Good.
He coughed, then raised his glass. "Want to try a strong man for once?"
"Whoosh!" Diana slapped at him—only for Lin Chen to catch her wrist.
Her eyes narrowed in anger. "Ask me another question like that and I'll call the police."
She rolled her eyes. "Do you have thoughts about me?"
"Of course. You're beautiful, and you're a demigod. Honestly? I'm curious about a demigod's combat power."
Diana snorted. "If it were Catwoman, Harley, and me—who would you pick?"
"Pick? Don't tease me. I want all three!" Lin Chen declared with a fist pump.
"Scumbag!" Diana shouted.
At that moment, Lin Chen realized his right ankle was wrapped by the Lasso of Truth.
"Damn—you set me up!" he growled, ready to retaliate.
But Diana leaned close to his ear and murmured, "Come on then. Let me test your combat power."
"Let's go!" Lin Chen was already dizzy from the alcohol, and the provocation was all he needed.
They left the bar and headed for an empty street.
A Fierce Midnight Battle
"Bang! Bang!"
Wonder Woman's demigod physique gave her overwhelming strength, but Lin Chen's moves were far more refined.
Diana staggered slightly, laughing breathlessly. "It's been so long since I had an opponent who could keep up with me. This is fun!"
Lin Chen winced. "Can you not hit like a crazy woman?!"
Diana shoved him against a wall. "What? You want to negotiate with me?"
Lin Chen stared at the dent forming behind him. Beaten into a wall? Me? Absolutely not.
"No way. I'm making sure you yield!"
And then the two of them clashed again—fists, feet, and forceful grappling—until the night dissolved into raw energy and blurred movement.
The Next Morning
A ray of sunlight slipped through the curtains.
Lin Chen groaned awake, head splitting. "Damn… I really lost it last night. Drank way too much."
He performed a quick Xuanmen Purification Technique, clearing his mind.
Then he realized—this was a woman's room. The quilt still carried a faint fragrance.
"…This is Wonder Woman's room? Did she… bring me here?"
There was a note on the bedside table.
He picked it up.
"Darling, breakfast is on the table. I have a charity fair today and will be busy until evening."
Lin Chen froze.
"Dear? What the hell? Isn't she supposed to be my black fan?"
He stretched his sore limbs, washed up, then began eating the breakfast she left.
Just then, Harley Quinn sent a video call.
Lin Chen answered.
"Boss! Why haven't you come back?" Mera flipped her red hair and winked flirtatiously.
Catwoman shoved her aside. "Hey! Were you out fooling around last night? You look awfully happy."
Lin Chen internally praised Catwoman's sharp instincts. Outwardly, he stayed calm.
"I was fighting hard all night. Those three monks? Extremely strong. One had a huge belly technique, one could turn into a golden man, and one could summon an evil spirit."
From behind, Harley called, "Master, did you get hurt?"
"Of course not. Who am I? I'll be back tonight. No need to panic."
Black Widow's voice cut in coldly, "Harley, look behind him. That's not a hotel. That's a… woman's bedroom."
Lin Chen sighed. These women are way too perceptive. Impossible to lie.
"I didn't go anywhere. I broke into this place to rest. The owner isn't here. Look."
He turned the camera around—an empty room.
The girls went quiet for only two seconds before Catwoman exploded:
"Master, then what are those red marks on your neck?!"
Lin Chen coughed. "Mosquitoes. New York mosquitoes. Terrible species. I suffered greatly."
"Sure you did," Black Widow muttered.
Lin Chen tried to escape the interrogation. "Anyway, I'm going to check on Super Killer Girl and buy her some study materials."
Harley rolled her eyes. "Master, Mindy is having trouble. The police have been harassing her."
Lin Chen frowned. "All the more reason to go see her."
At 10 AM
Lin Chen called Mindy.
"Little Mindy, Uncle is visiting. I'll be at your school gate soon."
Mindy gasped. "Stinky Taoist! I didn't stream for two days and you already missed me? Wait at the gate—I'm coming!"
Five minutes after Lin Chen arrived at the school gate, a rental car screeched to a stop. Mindy, blond hair bouncing, leaped out and hugged him tightly.
"Hey, stinky Taoist! I'm bored to death!"
Lin Chen looked at the school behind her. "Shouldn't you be… I don't know… inside? Studying?"
"Study?!" Mindy scoffed indignantly, full delinquent aura on display.
Lin Chen rubbed his forehead. "You skip class every day. How have you not been expelled?"
Mindy smirked proudly. "Because this beautiful girl hacked the school's system. My attendance is perfect."
Lin Chen stared at her. "If you used that skill for your studies, your Big Daddy would wake up laughing in his dreams."
