Lin Chen waved his hand. "Impossible. I like both radishes and cabbages."
D'Addario had a very good personality. She intentionally tried to please everyone and quickly won their favor.
Lin Chen realized his house wasn't big enough, so he built a two-story building beside it. He laid the foundation himself using earth-moving techniques, while Lorna handled the steel reinforcement directly.
Soon the main structure was completed. As for interior design and decoration, Lin Chen handed everything over to Harley and let her lead the others. Naturally, he rewarded Polaris (Lorna) well.
Lorna leaned against Lin Chen's arm. "Sir, our mutant base is basically finished. Come take a look sometime and give me advice."
Lin Chen brushed a hand over her green hair. "My Lorna is really capable. How many people do you have now?"
"Fifty-three. Still increasing."
"The Sentinel organization hasn't bothered you?"
Lorna frowned. "They came looking a few times, but now they seem to have disappeared. King Ada and the others are focusing on dealing with Vought and investigating them."
"Vought can mass-produce superpowers in labs. If they're fighting the Sentinels, that's for the best," Lin Chen said.
Lorna suddenly added, "I might have a younger brother and sister. Master, can you calculate it for me?"
Lin Chen was startled—she was probably talking about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
He activated a water-mirror spell. "Who told you that?"
"An old mutant. Said there are two powerful mutants in Europe—my siblings."
Lin Chen shook his head. "You're mistaken. They're not Magneto's children. That rumor was spread deliberately."
Lorna sighed in relief. "Good. I heard the girl Wanda is very beautiful."
Lin Chen smiled. "I wouldn't know. Why tell me? I'm a serious person."
Lorna lightly punched him. "You?!"
Lin Chen thought privately: Lorna inherited Magneto's magnetic control. Quicksilver and Wanda clearly didn't.
That afternoon, Jill rushed back. "Lin, Gotham's in trouble again."
"What now?"
"Gordon went into the sewers to catch a criminal named Bane, nearly died, and is in the hospital."
Lin Chen chuckled. "So you're taking his job?"
Jill hit him. "Be serious."
She showed him news on her phone. "Your good friend Bruce Wayne has gone bankrupt and disappeared."
"What? When?"
"Just now. Miranda's been elected chairman of Wayne Group."
Lin Chen frowned. "Lust clouds judgment. Batman still fell for that woman."
Catwoman walked over and rested her head on Lin Chen's shoulder. "I never liked Miranda. She looked like trouble. She even hinted at you."
Lin Chen smiled. "Kitty's getting possessive."
Catwoman glared, but it looked more like pouting.
"Why didn't you predict this?"
"I just got back! It hasn't even been long."
Harley suddenly realized. "No wonder she wanted to visit you last time—she was checking if you were home."
Jill frowned. "Did she kill Batman?"
"No. He's in an underground prison. Depends when he climbs out."
Soon news spread that both Batman and Bane were active in Gotham's sewers. Foley, acting commander, ordered most detectives underground, trying to claim credit while Gordon was hospitalized.
After hearing this, Jill prepared to go.
Lin Chen stopped her. "Trap. Once most police enter the sewers, Bane will detonate bombs, bury them, and begin his real show."
"What will he do?"
"A nuclear bomb. Gotham erased."
D'Addario asked, "Then why not just kill the police first?"
Lin Chen tapped her forehead. "If he slaughtered them openly, everyone would unite against him. Instead, he's boiling frogs slowly."
D'Addario retorted seriously, "Hot water doesn't kill frogs."
"That's because you didn't put a lid on the pot."
She fell silent.
Jill tried to contact Foley to stop the operation—but it was too late. Bane had already acted. Gotham was in chaos.
They discussed strategy. Jill would lead Harley, Selina, D'Addario, Mera, and others to secretly contact remaining officers and wait.
Lin Chen would rescue Batman. After all, Bane was Batman's rival—Lin Chen had no interest in taking over.
"Catwoman, come with me."
She pointed to her electronic shackles. "I'll be free in a few months."
"Freedom? Dream on."
Lin Chen summoned a Yellow Turban Spirit Warrior, shaped similarly to Catwoman, shackled it in her place.
"It'll last a few days."
Catwoman excitedly scratched his face. "You jerk! Why didn't you do this earlier? I could've gone shopping!"
"Your ambitions are really low."
He warned the others to stay cautious—Vought, the Church, and unknown forces might interfere.
"It's a pity Diana hasn't returned from Paradise Island," he added.
D'Addario and Mera told him to hurry back. He handed D'Addario a jade pendant. "You're one of us now."
Her heart warmed. "I have a place?"
He didn't waste more words. Just rescue Batman and return.
Catwoman put on her leather outfit confidently.
Lin Chen prepared to carry her while flying.
She gave him a side glance. "I can fly myself now."
She floated upward.
"At that speed, you'll arrive in half a month," Lin Chen said, then grabbed her waist and shot into the sky.
Harley pouted. "The Daoist really dotes on Catwoman."
Jill said, "She's been stuck for nearly a year. Let her relax."
Poison Ivy thought silently, Next time, it should be my turn.
