Chapter 97 - Mephisto A high-ranking demon.

A being who had reached an incomparably transcendent realm.

Possessing a near-immortal lifespan, immune to most exorcism methods and spells, and endowed with a body as powerful as that of the ancient demons…

Even the sacred relics worshiped by the Holy Church could inflict no more than a pitiful trace of damage.

Breaking through its defenses was a luxury.

This was a true Demon Lord in every sense of the term.

A ruler of a hellish domain, master of countless lesser demons — a genuine noble among infernal beings.

Once a demon ascended to this high-tier rank, it was no longer of the same species as ordinary demons.

The classifications of exorcists were no longer enough to describe such entities.

The demon world had its own distinct hierarchy.

As recorded in The Key of Solomon—The Demon King Belial, embodiment of the sin of Sloth, once signed a soul contract with Solomon himself, temporarily transferring command of seventy-two demon lords to him.

And the price for that power—

Was Solomon's soul, promised to Belial upon his death.

Bzzzzzz!

The dimensional rift that had torn through the heavens expanded to a monstrous scale—nearly fifteen meters across.

The vortex spun violently, releasing an ominous, bone-chilling aura.

The temperature seemed to plummet below freezing.

Their breath turned to frost.

An overwhelming sense of dread and spiritual suffocation crashed over them.

The sumo warrior Toru and the old man known as Uncle shivered uncontrollably.

"Ahhh!"

"Uncle… can't breathe!"

The thin, elderly man in the wool sweater clawed at his chest in panic.

"Damn it!"

The archaeologist clutched his head in despair.

"Will this ever end?! The spell to dispel curses is about to expire!"

Clap. Clap.

Sharp, deliberate applause echoed through the subterranean cavern.

A haunting, sharp horn joined the sound—accompanied by thunder and lightning.

A pale, bloodless young man stepped out from the glowing dimensional rift.

He was dressed in an immaculate black tuxedo, his lips curled into a sinister, mocking smile.

He appeared before everyone like a shadow made flesh.

Blackheart.

The son of Mephisto, Lord of Hell.

The embodiment of concentrated evil—a high-ranking demon ruling over destruction, plague, decay, and the devouring of life and souls.

His noble yet tainted bloodline had gifted him powers beyond those of ordinary demon lords—

Such as mastery over Hellfire Lightning, and immunity to the Ghost Rider's Penance Stare, among countless other top-tier dark magics.

Yet unlike his father Mephisto, their philosophies were vastly different.

Mephisto preferred manipulation — binding souls through contracts, indulging his obsession with collecting the most exquisite spirits.

To maintain the balance of the mortal realm's great protective wards, this deceitful Hell Lord had long used soul transactions to breed offspring — vessels carrying fragments of his infernal will.

And among them, his son Blackheart…

Burned with the desire to obtain the Contract of San Venganza.

To shatter his limits—

And ascend as a true Demon King.

Of course, Mephisto would never allow his son to seize what was rightfully his.

Thus, the Ghost Rider was born.

Johnny Blaze — once a man who sold his soul to Mephisto in exchange for curing his father's terminal cancer.

But in the end, his father still perished in a tragic stunt accident.

Now, as the dimensional rift to Blackheart's hellish domain opened wide—

Mephisto sensed danger.

Without hesitation, he awakened the Spirit of Vengeance slumbering within Johnny Blaze, entrusting him with the mission of stopping Blackheart.

"My son…"

"So you've finally emerged?"

In Hell's Kitchen, atop a skyscraper cloaked in night, a man in a sharp black suit leaned on a cane, gazing down at the city below.

His eyes pierced through layers of ruin—until they fixed on the pale young man who had just stepped through the rift.

This was Mephisto's human vessel—a body imbued with only a portion of the Hell Lord's power.

At his core, he was still human—mortal, with a beginning and an end.

To wield true infernal might, he required a soul contract.

The Contract of San Venganza—

Signed collectively by devout believers of a long-lost holy town.

Their wandering souls, adrift for a thousand years, had accumulated a power so vast it could tear open the barrier between realms—rending the fabric that separated Mephisto's hell from the mortal world.

But the previous Ghost Rider had betrayed Mephisto…

And the contract's whereabouts were lost to time.

"I hope that Holy Lord…"

"…can stop my rebellious son."

The elderly gentleman in the suit suddenly raised his cane and struck the ground with force.

Crack!

Forks of blinding lightning erupted from the storm clouds above—a declaration of his presence.

It had to be said—

Mephisto and the Holy Lord shared a similar affliction:

Negligence in raising their offspring, resulting in a chain of disasters that followed.

Blackheart. The Demon Dragon. Both, without question—problem children of the highest order.

"…Mephisto?"

"Father?!"

Shen Du and Blackheart muttered at the same time, each sensing the Hell Lord's presence.

Mephisto—Ruler of countless hells.A being on par with the Lords of the Seven Deadly Sins. The eternal adversary of Heaven. The devil who embodies negation itself.

Of course—only within the Marvel Universe.

After the battle with Dark Kong Jin, Shen Du had taken time to study the demonic lore of Marvel.

He now understood the differences between Hell, Heaven, the Kingdom of God, and various extra dimensions—concepts not found in the Jackie Chan Adventures world.

He had also gained a deeper understanding of Mephisto's true nature.

Not every high-ranking demon could be called a Demon King.

Only those with unparalleled feats and recognition from the seven supreme rulers of the infernal realm—the masters of the Seven Deadly Sins—could bear that title.

As the tension in the cavern reached its peak—

Hissssss!

The sharp sound of serpents spitting their tongues filled the air.

Countless symbiotic fibers shot forth, wrapping themselves around the towering, muscular demon.

"Heh heh… hello there!"

The archaeologist scratched his head with an awkward grin, both hands glowing with green light.

The scene instantly jogged Shen Du's memory.

"The spell to remove talismans?"

The red-eyed, muscular dragon-headed demon narrowed his gaze and growled coldly.

This—was the reason the Holy Lord had been defeated the first time.

Fortunately—he had discovered the Venom symbiote.

It had saved him from destruction.

"Ahh! Jackie!"

"Why can't you even handle something this simple?!"

Uncle snapped, though in truth, he was deeply shaken.

This substance…

He had seen it before!

"Section 13,"Toru the sumo warrior shouted in alarm."The Eastern youth who appeared with the evil god Loki—he had the same power!"

Section 13?The Eastern boy who kidnapped Jade?!

Even Jackie was stunned.

"Holy Lord! Where did you take Jade?!"

Jackie's fists clenched, the sound of grinding bones echoing through the cavern.

Jade.

His beloved niece.

It was for her that Jackie had crossed oceans to Kowloon Walled City, then traveled onward to Lu Province.Along the way, he had stumbled upon an ancient temple atop a mountain peak—where a set of divine armor had been sealed away.

Suddenly, Jackie realized—

Perhaps this was destiny.

The heavens had placed the Divine Armor in his path—to give him the strength to defeat the Fire Demon, the Holy Lord, and uncover Jade's true whereabouts!

"Far away…"

Shen Du's lips curved into a faint, amused smile.

He was curious about this so-called divine armor as well.

It was the equipment of Lan Caihe, forged from the same material as the Panku Box itself—said to grant its wearer the strength to topple the Demon of Earth.

Tso Lan,seventh among the eight Demon Sorcerers—the "Earth Demon," master of quakes and mountains, symbolized by the trigram Kun.

He possessed the power to split mountains and cause earthquakes—and a body as unyielding as stone.

Even the Holy Lord dared not claim superiority over him.

That alone showed how terrifyingly powerful Tso Lan truly was.

"The Divine Armor…"

"The greatest artifact in Jackie Chan Adventures."

"I hope it gives me a proper surprise."

Shen Du spoke calmly, though rage burned beneath his voice.

Hummmm!

Twin beams of destructive light erupted from his eyes—as if twin suns had ignited within his pupils.

The laser blasts, each half a meter thick, shot forth with annihilating force, obliterating everything in their path—and hurtling straight toward the enraged archaeologist!
