Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Appearance of the Basilisk

October 31st, Halloween Eve.

As George walked into the Castle Great Hall in the morning, he smelled the sweet and inviting aroma of roasted pumpkin.

Today's breakfast was almost entirely pumpkin-related, probably made with a lot of ingredients from Hagrid.

But to be honest, the House-elf's cooking was indeed excellent; no wonder Tonks always said she missed Hogwarts's food.

Even he, who didn't particularly like Western food, occasionally felt pleasantly surprised.

If he had the chance, he planned to see if he could get one in the future to be his butler.

After the last class in the afternoon, the young Wizards walked in groups towards the Great Hall, and George, as the star of Slytherin, was naturally surrounded by his classmates as they went.

"Have you heard? For this Halloween feast, Dumbledore even specially invited a Skeleton Dance Troupe!"

"Wow, is it the dance troupe entirely composed of skeletons?"

Amidst the excited discussions of the young Wizards, George stepped into the Great Hall.

The Great Hall at this time was already decorated in a riot of colors, with a thousand live bats fluttering on the walls and ceiling, and another thousand, like low-lying dark clouds, swirling above the dining tables.

Above the Great Hall floated gigantic pumpkin lanterns, each large enough to hold two or three young Wizards.

Those were special pumpkins made by Hagrid using an Expansion Charm, and George was also present at the time.

However, he wasn't interested in pumpkins; he was interested in the Expansion Charm.

The Expansion Charm, a spell that can make a person rapidly inflate and float like a balloon, has the same effect on objects, but care must be taken to control the effect, otherwise, it is easy to over-inflate and explode.

George was interested in this spell because he thought that if he had known this spell when he escaped the Base, he could have expanded those grenades by more than ten times when he controlled them to fly out.

That probably wouldn't have been just simply blowing up a few houses; perhaps the entire Base could have been blown up.

However, this spell was not easy to master; even after consulting Hagrid, he still hadn't fully grasped it.

Of course, the main reason was that there were too many magic theories and spells he wanted to learn, and the Expansion Charm was not the most important one, so it had to be put aside, and the time spent on it was naturally much less.

Otherwise, if he studied this one spell every day, with both bodies working together, he would have learned it long ago.

Hogwarts's Halloween party did not disappoint George: the House-elfs' meticulously cooked mountains of delicious food, the Professors' splendid and interesting magic displays, and the Skeleton Dance Troupe's comical performances.

These were all things he couldn't see in the normal World, and they greatly broadened his horizons.

Compared to watching movies, experiencing it firsthand was much more wonderful; many things, if not experienced personally, can only be understood by perhaps one-tenth through text and images alone.

No matter how high Mount Everest is on TV, you won't feel anything, but when you truly stand there, you will understand why it is the World's highest peak.

After the feast, everyone dispersed, and the Slytherin students, including George, chattered as they walked towards their dormitory in the Underground Room, but at a corner, they suddenly stopped.

Because they saw Filch's Madam Norris, hanging upside down from a torch bracket, her body stiff and eyes glazed, and on the wall next to the torch were several large words:

"The Chamber of Secrets has been opened,

Enemies of the heir, beware!"

Standing opposite the wall were Harry and his two friends, equally stunned.

"Enemies of the heir, beware! Next will be you, Mud—"

Malfoy immediately stepped out of the crowd upon seeing this, excitedly starting to mock Harry and his friends, but before he could finish, George, from behind, pressed his shoulder.

"Malfoy, now is not the time for this. Go inform the Principal and Professors to handle it."

Malfoy looked back and saw it was George, hesitated for a moment, but still closed his mouth and turned to jog towards the Great Hall.

Soon, Dumbledore, Snape, Lockhart, McGonagall, and a group of other Professors rushed over, including Filch.

Upon seeing his beloved Madam Norris petrified, Filch immediately roared in anger.

He was convinced that Harry had done this to get revenge on him, and it was only after Dumbledore personally explained that it was not a spell that a low-grade student could use, and that Madam Norris could still be saved, that he finally relented.

George also didn't show off by mentioning the "Basilisk" at this time; although he might get extra points, he didn't want to get involved just yet.

After Harry and his two friends were taken away by Dumbledore, he returned to the common room with the other young Wizards from Slytherin.

The other young Wizards were mostly discussing the Chamber of Secrets of Slytherin, but only he still found a corner to study his magic book, a scene that made those young Wizards secretly admire him.

After Halloween, the Castle returned to peace, but the topic of the Chamber of Secrets remained hot, and many young Wizards believed that Harry was the heir of Slytherin.

One day, Harry and his two friends found George, who was reading in the library.

"You suspect Malfoy is the heir of Slytherin, and he wants to kill all Muggle-born children in the school?"

"His whole family has been in Slytherin, and he often brags about it.

I suspect they are very likely descendants of Slytherin; his father is evil enough, so he must be the heir."

Harry said with certainty.

Ron followed up with a guess:

"They might have held the key to the Chamber of Secrets for centuries, passing it down from generation to generation, father to son, son to grandson, until it reached Malfoy."

"I don't think anyone else hates Muggle-born Wizards as much as he does; he even called me a Mudblood last time."

Hermione also agreed with their guesses.

"Even if your guess is very reasonable, how do you prove it? You can't convict someone based on mere speculation; his father has great power in the Ministry of Magic."

George said with a smile.

Malfoy was not a descendant of Slytherin; Lord Voldemort was, but George would not tell the trio these things.

"So, George, we need your help."

The three of them leaned closer to George.

"We need you to help us get Crabbe, Goyle, and Millicent's hair, and also tell us the password to your Slytherin common room."

"That's not difficult, but what do you want to do?"

George asked, feigning ignorance.

Harry trusted George a lot and didn't hide anything:

"We plan to make Polyjuice Potion, transform into the appearance of these three, and go directly to the Slytherin common room to trick Malfoy into talking…"

"That's a good idea, but you should know that doing so violates at least fifty school rules. Which one of you came up with this?"

George nodded and casually asked.

Harry and Ron simultaneously pointed to Hermione; they couldn't have come up with such a good plan because they didn't even know what Polyjuice Potion was.
