My name is Wolverine, and I'm from 2023.
By then, Earth was once again facing an apocalyptic crisis.
Last time, I saved the planet by killing the woman I loved, Jean; this time, it's up to me again.
sentinel robots had taken over the World, and the key to their creation was Mystique.
So Charles sent my consciousness back to 1973—as long as Mystique isn't captured by Trask, the birth of the Sentinels can be prevented.
But… "Who the hell can tell me where I am?" Wolverine was pulled to sit at a table; a fan opposite him rushed up, book in hand, asking for an autograph.
"Please use the same signature style you used when you were with President Kennedy."
Yet although Wolverine had lived for over a century, he didn't know nine ways to write his own name.
The only thing he could be sure of was that he'd never been this popular before.
So Wolverine frowned and shouted.
A white man behind him hurried over, calmed the fan with a few words, then pulled Logan aside.
"What's wrong?" the white man asked.
Wolverine shot back, "Who are you?"
"Me? I'm Bryan, your agent!" Bryan studied Logan, then suddenly realized, "Are you high?"
"No." Wolverine denied it at once; he felt no discomfort, no memory confusion.
But Bryan assumed Logan must be stoned—why else would he not recognize his own agent?
So, to Wolverine's astonishment, Bryan walked straight to the fans.
"Sorry, everyone; Logan was injured during last night's mission, so today's signing is cancelled."
"But every fan here will receive a free signed Wolverine photo and generous compensation gifts!"
They actually bought that lame excuse?
Logan was baffled, then saw the fans accept it willingly—praise even rippled through the crowd.
"Injured on a mission and Logan still showed up—so touching!"
"Wolverine has a warm heart too!"
Logan's eyes nearly popped; were these people nuts?
Still, hearing their praise—especially "Wolverine has a warm heart"—he felt a sneaky thrill.
"Come on, Vought Corporation has plenty of experience handling this." Bryan pulled Logan back into the room.
"Vought Corporation?" Logan asked, puzzled. "What's that?"
Bryan slapped his forehead: "You really overdid the drugs—your brain's fried!"
"I'm not high," Logan retorted.
He was fed up; he needed to ditch this agent and find Professor X—he had a World to save. In a few days Raven would try to assassinate Trask; he couldn't waste time here.
"Fine, fine."
Bryan shook his head: "We've got the set this afternoon; Professor X can sober you up then."
"Who?"
"You just said—Professor X?" Logan grabbed Bryan's collar. "Charles Xavier?"
"Huh?" Now Bryan was stunned. "You still remember Professor X's name?"
Wolverine said immediately, "Take me to him!"
Bryan nodded: "No problem, but not until this afternoon. For now… get some rest."
He turned to leave, but Logan called after him.
"Wait—bring me a few newspapers."
By now Logan realized this World wasn't the past he'd expected.
Bryan moved fast, bringing a stack of papers—and something that startled Logan.
"Vought Tech's latest wPhone 4. Your clearance is E3; it's standard issue."
He sounded envious: "Look at this breakthrough design—the screen actually flips up!"
"Uh… you know how to use it, right?" Bryan suddenly remembered Logan's muddled head.
"Of course—it's just a phone."
Wolverine certainly knew how; he flipped it open. Seeing that, Bryan left.
He was Wolverine's agent; Logan could skip events, but he had to clean up the mess.
"A flip phone in this era?" Logan was stunned; everywhere he looked clashed with his memories.
So Logan read the papers—and the headlines were alien to him.
"Beth Reelected President!"
"X-Men New Movie Starts Filming—Magneto May Appear with Son."
"Augustus Group Market Cap Hits New High"
"New Awakened Emerges; Augustus CEO Tells Vought Group to Respect Awakened's Will."
"Vought Group States: Augustus Metahumans Are Not Awakened!"
"X-Men… movie?"
Wolverine couldn't fathom how the X-Men could be linked to movies.
And Awakened? Weren't they Mutants?
What was the Vought Group?
And the Augustus Group looked powerful enough to challenge Vought.
More questions bubbled up in Wolverine's mind. Fortunately, this was a high-end hotel with its own library, so Logan—rare for him—actually walked into such a place.
He stayed inside for hours.
By the time Bryan found him and drove him to the set, Logan still hadn't recovered from the shock.
"A World with Vought changes everything," Logan muttered in the car. "It makes everything… perfect."
Bryan overheard his mumble.
"Of course. Without Vought, Sebastian Shaw might have destroyed the planet long ago," Bryan said. "And the World's rapid progress? All thanks to the Vought Group!"
He spoke from the heart; his words had nothing to do with his F7 employee grade at Vought.
Logan gave a soft chuckle and nodded.
He glanced at the huge poster of Professor X outside the window: Charles Xavier seated at a desk, right hand pointing to his temple, gazing profoundly ahead. The caption read—
"Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters—the first choice for Awakened teens!"
Most ads in every shop along the streets also featured Mutants Logan recognized.
Beast Hank endorsing a sports brand.
Mystique Raven fronting a luxury line—even appearing in her natural blue skin.
Even Wolverine's nemesis Magneto Erik had billboards everywhere.
Logan had never imagined Mutants could become brand spokespeople.
That's so… un-Mutant.
Wonderful!
Logan had fought and schemed against humans his whole life, so the World before him felt like a beautiful dream.
"Did Charles mess up and send me to some fantasy World?" he wondered.
But when he thought of 2023 in his own timeline, Logan's smile froze.
The more he thought, the more panicked he became.
"In this World Mystique's a superstar; she'd never try to assassinate Trask. With humans and Mutants getting along so well, there's no reason to build Sentinels."
"Everything's different—I jumped to the wrong Universe!" Terror seized him. "Can my own World still be saved?"
This place was lovely, but it wasn't his. He only wanted to save the World he belonged to.
Yet Professor X and Magneto had simply told him to stop Raven from killing Trask. The situation now looked nothing like their description, and Logan had no clue what to do next.
Time travel? Multiverse connections?
Too much for one Wolverine.
He stayed lost in thought until he met Professor X.
Bryan first explained Logan's situation to Professor X's Manager, who then relayed it to the Professor.
Hearing something was off with Logan, Charles didn't refuse; he came over personally.
The moment he saw Logan, Charles sensed something wrong.
The eyes.
This Logan's eyes were totally different from the man they knew.
Their Logan was brash and carefree; today's Logan looked as if he carried the weight of the World.
"Seems you have a story to share." Charles smiled, choosing not to expose him.
He didn't rifle through Wolverine's memories; that would be unforgivably rude.
Only Fang Yuan would sneak around doing something that unethical.
"A story?" Logan studied Charles; the man's aura matched the Professor X of his own World.
He mused, "Erik, you were wrong. Young Charles isn't as immature as you claimed."
Then Logan smiled nostalgically.
"I do have a story…"
That afternoon, filming never started.
An hour later Charles brought the entire set of Superheroes back to Vought Tower.
Reason: Superhero mission. White Queen arranged the jet herself.
Mid-flight Charles placed an urgent call to Fang Yuan.
"A Logan from fifty years in the future?" Hearing Charles's opener, Fang Yuan knew exactly what was up.
Days of Future Past.
After the Avengers 4 Team had burst into his Marvel Universe, Fang Yuan understood such things perfectly.
In this World's destined timeline, Logan was indeed meant to travel back and carry out the Days of Future Past storyline.
Although Fang Yuan had altered the plot, the event had been set before his arrival, so it still happened.
"Future Wolverine wants to rewrite history, stop Raven from being captured and experimented on by Trask, and prevent the rise of the Sentinels."
"But I already changed that plot. Leaving aside Logan's original World, this World has no storyline left for him to finish… wait."
Fang Yuan's old mischief bubbled up again.
Trask was right there in his custody; why not custom-build a Days of Future Past for Wolverine?
Besides—
ahem—sentinel robots… he wasn't exactly without them.
