The sound of the rain had followed me home… soft, persistent, the kind that soaks into your bones and refuses to leave.
Ares's words still echoed in my head. "You're going to tell me everything… or I'll find out the hard way."
I sat on the couch, arms wrapped around myself, hair still damp from the chaos earlier. My living room lights were dim, the silence so sharp I could hear the small ticking from the wall clock.
I didn't even know when I started whispering to myself.
"Yes, I found something… but no, he's not ready to know."
The truth burned in my chest. I had traced the hidden key signatures again when I got home, and the trail didn't just stop at KnightCorp… it branched deeper, into files labeled with internal markers belonging to Tempo Systems, a subsidiary we had not touched since Ares took over the digital contracts.
If I told him now, he would go after whoever was behind it immediately. He'll blow it all open.
