Jasmine's POV
The boardroom had become empty, but the echo of Zara's voice still clung to the walls.
"Your mother, EvelyDuvall…"
That name… my mother's name… was still burning in my head. I sat there long after everyone had left, staring at the glowing projector screen, her signature shining like an accusation.
The air was cold. Too cold.
I rubbed my arms, forcing my breath to even out, but it was useless. My thoughts wouldn't stop racing.
She had worked with KnightCorp?
Why didn't she ever tell me?
"Jasmine." Leonard's voice came softly from behind.
I turned. He stood by the door, his expression torn between concern and fury.
"She blindsided you," he said. "that was a setup."
"I know." I whispered. My voice came out hoarse. "But she didn't fake that document, Leonard. That was my mother's real signature."
He crossed the room and sat beside me. "Then she dug up something meant to stay buried. Don't let her twist it."
