Chapter 123: Clash of Legendary Pokémon
Next came Charizard versus Mewtwo, but Mewtwo's appearance sealed Charizard's defeat. It's safe to say that Mewtwo is now Ryan's strongest Pokémon. Under the guidance of another Mewtwo, Ryan's Mewtwo has begun to incorporate the Principle of Destruction into every move.
Once Mewtwo truly masters all of its abilities incorporating the Principle of Destruction, it will ascend to a First-Class Legendary status, a level the system categorizes, and compete with established Legendary Pokémon.
A single Fire Blast incapacitated Charizard, leaving Ash with three Pokémon remaining and a five-minute break.
Ash was already feeling the pressure; he'd already lost three Pokémon, while Ryan had lost none. Ash clenched his fists and muttered, "Now it all depends on the performance of the three Legendary Birds."
"But Ash, do you have a plan for Ryan's Mewtwo?" Brock asked.
"Yeah, that Mewtwo is incredibly powerful. With the strength of the three Legendary Birds combined, it would probably take all three to defeat it," said Misty. "That means you can't lose any of them in the upcoming battles. Losing just one means you've already lost."
"I know," Ash nodded, taking a few deep breaths to compose himself.
Five minutes passed quickly, and Ryan and Ash returned to the competition venue. Ash called out, "I'm counting on you, Articuno!"
Articuno made a grand entrance, soaring gracefully through the air, drawing the attention of the entire crowd.
"Articuno, huh? Then, take the stage, Aerodactyl!" Ryan said.
As Aerodactyl entered the arena, a deafening roar echoed, and an ancient, primal aura filled the air. Ash's eyes narrowed as he noticed a Mega Stone around Aerodactyl's neck and knew something was coming.
Ryan smiled and placed his hand on the Key Stone bracelet on his right wrist. Strange rays of light connected Aerodactyl and Ryan, enveloping Aerodactyl in a sphere of light. The sphere then shattered, revealing Mega Aerodactyl!
"Articuno, strike first! Ice Beam!" Ash shouted.
"Too slow!" Ryan remarked. Aerodactyl was once the apex predator of the ancient skies, its dominance due to its exceptional speed and powerful claws.
Mega Aerodactyl's ability Tough Claws, combined with increased speed, was designed to recreate the majesty of this ancient ruler!
Mega Aerodactyl dodged the Ice Beam by banking sideways, then raised its wings and flapped them violently, creating a torrent of rocks that flew toward Articuno with Ancient Power.
"Ancient Power? Then, Articuno, Blizzard!" Ash shouted.
Articuno flapped its wings, and amidst the howling wind, a massive snowstorm formed—a fierce Blizzard blew toward Mega Aerodactyl. Mega Aerodactyl flapped its wings, sending a powerful Heat Wave toward Articuno. The Blizzard and Heat Wave collided, creating a cloud of steam that filled the sky.
The next moment, Ash lost sight of Mega Aerodactyl, but Articuno's screams echoed from within the mist. Mega Aerodactyl gripped Articuno's wings with its talons, its flaming jaws clamping down on its throat with Fire Fang.
Articuno plummeted helplessly from the sky, slamming heavily to the ground. Mega Aerodactyl bit down on Articuno ferociously, its ancient savagery reawakened after millions of years of dormancy. Ryan was certain that with a single command, Mega Aerodactyl would ruthlessly crush Articuno's throat, bringing the Legendary Pokémon to its end.
"That's enough, Mega Aerodactyl," Ryan declared.
Mega Aerodactyl immediately released Articuno and flew over to Ryan, obediently awaiting its praise. Ryan smiled and patted its large head. Mega Aerodactyl reverted from its Mega Evolution and was recalled into Ryan's Poké Ball. Articuno, unable to continue battling, was also recalled by Ash.
Ash glanced at Ryan, sighed, then steeled himself. "No matter what, I'm going to fight to the end! Go, Zapdos!"
"Your turn, Zeraora!" Ryan sent out Zeraora.
The clash of the two Electric-type Pokémon sparked electricity from the moment they entered the field. Zeraora flexed its claws, its fur standing on end as electrical current surged through it.
"Zeraora, Plasma Fists!" Ryan declared.
"Zapdos, Thunderbolt!" Ash shouted.
Zeraora's surge of electricity transformed into a bolt of lightning as it charged at Zapdos. Zapdos responded with Thunderbolt. However, Zeraora's Volt Absorb ability meant the electric attack had no effect—or rather, it only made Zeraora's attack even more powerful!
A Plasma Fists punch slammed into Zapdos' face, sending it flying. A pale blue aura then enveloped Zapdos's entire body, and Ryan burst out laughing. Zapdos was yellow, now covered in a pale blue electric field, its overall color shifting toward green.
"Ash, be careful! Electric-type moves have no effect on that Zeraora!" Brock shouted.
"I know! Zapdos, Brave Bird!" Ash shouted.
"Electric Terrain, then Close Combat!" Ryan declared.
Zapdos soared into the sky, then dove down, slamming into Zeraora with overwhelming momentum. But Zeraora's electric nets spread through the air, entangling Zapdos with countless webs of electricity. Even though Zapdos knocked Zeraora back, it was still ensnared by dozens of nets, unable to move freely, and began falling from the sky.
"Zapdos, that net is just electricity—absorb it!" Ash said.
"I've already bought enough time!" Ryan said.
Zeraora had already rushed to Zapdos. The custom move Ryan had purchased with popularity points yesterday was showing its effectiveness. Zeraora swiftly struck Zapdos's head with a series of rapid attacks, preventing it from thinking clearly as it was pummeled while falling. As they landed, Zeraora delivered a final roundhouse kick, sending Zapdos flying toward Ash. Zapdos was now unable to battle!
Ash silently recalled Zapdos and sent out Moltres. Ryan recalled Zeraora, and Charizard appeared!
After a Mega Evolution, Mega Charizard X stood on the field. Ash said seriously, "Moltres, Flamethrower!"
"Ash, even among Legendary Pokémon there are differences. Your three Legendary Birds haven't reached the level of true First-Class Legendaries yet," Ryan said with a wave of his hand. "Second-Class Legendaries like these are no match for me! Mega Charizard X, take the flames, then Dragon Claw!"
Mega Charizard X roared, forming massive dragon claws on both hands. It raised its right claw and blocked it in front of its chest. Although Moltres's Flamethrower was powerful, it was still far from enough for Charizard, who had comprehended Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire.
Taking the Flamethrower head-on, Mega Charizard X moved. Its super-strong back and wing muscles gave it extremely fast flight speed. Moltres had no time to react as Mega Charizard X hooked a claw around its neck and lifted it high into the sky. The subsequent Dragon Claw combo made Moltres cry out in pain, completely unable to withstand Mega Charizard X's assault.
Under Ash's helpless gaze, Moltres fell powerlessly to the ground. Mega Charizard X landed heavily and placed its foot on Moltres. Today, it would create glory! With the body of a regular Pokémon, it had defeated Legendary Pokémon!
Ryan watched silently. Today it was just a rookie Legendary. In the future, Charizard would defeat even the ancient Legendary Pokémon!
