Entering an inn, they were offered seats by the window, where Dydra watched the townsfolk go about their day. The Crown Prince ordered their meal before either of them could speak. The food arrived quickly, and they ate in a comfortable silence, each seemingly lost in their own thoughts.
Once they were finished, they returned to the road.
The following day, they arrived in Stoneville.
Leonard disappeared for nearly an hour, claiming he had business to attend to. When he finally returned, he carried a small box with him. Stepping into the carriage, he handed it to Dydra without explanation.
Curiosity flickered across her face as she accepted it.
Upon opening the box, she found a new pair of brown boots nestled inside.
Heat immediately rushed to her cheeks.
Only then did she notice how worn her own boots had become. The leather was faded, and the tip of one was torn.
