Chapter 97 - The Plot’s Not Right!

"Why haven't those vampires shown up yet?"

Inside the abandoned train station, Jabus turned to the companions beside him.

He was the werewolf designated as Alpha-A. After Lucian had ordered him to lead a team to ambush the vampire elder Amelia, this guy had immediately brought thirty werewolves rushing over—and had been waiting in ambush since the afternoon.

Because most werewolves tended to act before they thought, while Lucian was still working out how to counter a possible ambush, Jabus had already charged to the station with his men.

So, just like Selene—who was still dumbly waiting outside—the werewolves lying in wait here had no idea that their home base had already been blown to pieces.

"No idea, the chief didn't say!"

The werewolf Beta beside him lazily scratched his claws. He'd been waiting there since two in the afternoon and now felt like he was about to grow a whole new layer of fur.

"Wait—someone's coming!"

Jabus twitched his ears, catching the sound of footsteps approaching from the entrance.

"The train—sounds like a train's coming too!"

Beta's ears perked up as well, hearing the distant rumble of metal wheels against the tracks.

"You, go deal with whoever's coming in. The rest of you—get ready to charge with me!" Jabus waved a claw, sending Beta to handle the poor fool walking in, while he and the others sharpened their claws, staring at the slowly approaching train.

"So many of them?"

Standing at the entrance, Li Qingyuan observed through the swarm of mosquitoes he controlled—and was stunned to discover dozens of werewolves inside the abandoned station.

This was… tricky.

He had assumed there would be, at most, seven or eight of them. After all, most of the werewolves had already been crushed to death in the collapsed district earlier, and the remaining stragglers should have been scattered and terrified—certainly not regrouped like this.

Who could've guessed there was still an entire trained unit here!

The reason he had been able to wipe out both the werewolves and vampires so easily before was purely due to an information advantage—he had caught both sides completely off guard.

I mean, who would ever expect a missile to greet them in their sleep?

Even the so-called protagonist of Underworld, Selene herself, would only fight using guerrilla tactics when facing a dozen werewolves alone.

With his current scrawny body, if he ran into several dozen of them… there'd be nowhere to run!

Against seven or eight, he could still use his biological bombs and dark sorcery to "teach them to be wolves." But dozens? That was way beyond his limit.

Sure, the Underworld werewolves had a reputation for being the weakest of their kind, but if converted into system stats, they'd still have around ten points each in Strength and Agility—and over twenty in Constitution. Against his numbers, they'd absolutely crush him.

They're moving?

Just as he was considering retreating to use a disposable missile launcher, the mosquitoes transmitted fresh intel—

One lone werewolf had broken off and was charging at him, while the rest were sneaking toward the incoming train.

What's going on?

He didn't understand why they'd make such a brainless move, but hey—if the enemy wanted to die in the stupidest way possible, who was he to stop them?

Li Qingyuan took two steps back, widening the gap between them, then turned and bolted from the station.

The werewolf Beta saw his "prey" running away and immediately dropped to all fours, sprinting after him at full speed.

Whether this intruder was just an unlucky passerby or not didn't matter—if you showed up here at this hour, your bad luck was your own fault.

Beta let out a low growl as he burst out of the station doors—only to be instantly bound tight with a sharp snap!

Living Restraint Rope!

A simple yet very practical spell. Useless against high-tier enemies, perhaps—but perfect for handling a headless brute like this one.

And why didn't he just use an explosive to "teach it to be a wolf"?

Because there were still dozens more inside—he didn't want to stir up the whole nest.

"ROAR!"

The restrained Beta threw back his head to call for help, but before he could even shout, a mosquito zipped straight into his open mouth.

BOOM!

A dull explosion rang from his throat, splitting his head clean off his body.

Ratatatatata!

Just as Li Qingyuan was debating whether to take out his launcher and blow up the entire station, a burst of gunfire suddenly erupted inside.

What the hell?

He quickly opened his mission panel—The vampire completion rate, which had been at 97%, suddenly dropped to 91%.Meanwhile, the werewolf completion rate jumped from 87% to 90%.

Connecting the dots—the werewolves' sudden movement, and that slowly approaching train—he instantly understood.

The vampires and werewolves were fighting each other inside the station!

And judging by the timing, the vampires must've just arrived in the city!

Combine those two clues and there was only one answer.

That had to be the vampire elder Amelia—the one who dies the moment she appears!

Honestly, compared to the heroine Selene, he found that tragic elder much more interesting. If it weren't for the tight mission deadline, he might've even considered recruiting her.

Still, he couldn't believe it—both the werewolf and vampire headquarters had been blown up by him, yet the remaining survivors were still fighting each other?

Do they not… talk to their HQ?

Even if mobile phones weren't that common in this era, they could at least read the news, right?

Gunfire blazed inside the station—it seemed Amelia's guards were in a firefight with the werewolves.

But since Amelia had only come to complete the handover with Marcus, she hadn't brought many people. Against thirty elite werewolves, her side stood no chance.

When it came to close combat, vampires were physically weaker and completely outmatched.

So after just a few minutes, the gunfire slowly died down—meaning the vampires were all dead.

He glanced at his mission completion stats—Vampires: 94%.Werewolves: 93%.

He shrugged cheerfully.

He'd thought it'd be a tough battle—but now, it seemed all he had to do was walk in and collect corpses. Perfect.

He sent the remaining mosquitoes swooping down toward the werewolves just as they were celebrating their "victory."

Moments later, blood-curdling screams echoed from inside the station.
