Chapter 84
"And that's how they dragged me to the stream like that,"
Kairen blurted, his voice half–defeated, half–amused as he spoke into the phone screen held close to his face.
He was on a video call with Amara.
Amara's brittle laughter burst through the speaker, echoing off her side of the screen. "That's what serves your introvert ass right!" she fired back playfully, shaking her head.
The phone shifted slightly as she propped it against something, her colorful bonnet catching the soft light as she tucked stray curls beneath it with one hand and stretched the other toward a steaming mug of coffee.
Kairen just stared at her, silent for a moment, lips caught in that faint, teasing smile he wore whenever he wanted to look annoyed but couldn't quite commit.
Amara took a careful sip of the coffee, graceful and slow. A quick slurp! rippled through the mic.
"Ahhh!" she sighed, voice warm and sharp at once, setting the mug aside with a satisfied clink.
