Nana's voice echoed from the other room—cheerful, warm, full of disbelief as their mother's laughter followed, light and appreciative, even though the woman had no clue what those bags were truly worth.
The quietness that came after was tense and taunting, like a held breath.
Nana's muffled voice still drifted faintly from the other room, her giddy rants rising and falling between walls, but here in this room—it was different.
Kairen was alone now.
Physically, and digitally—with Amara.
And now, apparently, with a rumor to clear.
He kept his gaze locked on the door Nana had burst through moments ago, the wood still trembling slightly from her energy. He didn't dare turn to look at Amara yet.
Amara, on the other hand, had been seconds from ending the call, her sleepiness written all over her drooping eyelids.
But Nana's words—"your boyfriend actually got it"—had slapped the drowsiness out of her soul.
