Gerardo looked at Noreen helplessly, trying to reason with her. "Dad understands you're worried about your mom, but you can't act like this. Nevaeh is a girl, and doing this will only offend the Bennett family."
For a second, Nevaeh had hoped.. hoped that Gerardo might have a shred of decency left, that he would actually stand up for her.
But when she heard his last words, she realized the truth.
His so-called protection wasn't for her; it was just because he was scared of the Bennett family. A cold chill ran straight through her heart.
It seemed she had overestimated him. Gerardo was still the same cowardly, selfish man he had always been. He never changed.
Noreen felt equally disappointed.
She scoffed at her father's words. "Why should I listen to you? You're afraid of the Bennett family, but I'm not. I was the one supposed to marry Cassius; she stole everything that belonged to me!"
