As soon as the poisonous words left her mouth, Liam's smile instantly froze.
He turned to Roxy, his face filled with sudden, sharp anger. "What are you even talking about? My mom can be nice to whoever she wants. It's none of your business."
Roxy didn't expect Liam to react so strongly.
Seeing that he was genuinely upset, she grabbed his arm and tried to explain herself in a whiny voice, "That's not what I meant! I just thought, with your mom being so kind, she wouldn't be fooled by someone like Nevaeh. After all, your family is huge and powerful, and she's just an orphan. What if she's just trying to take something that belongs to you?"
Liam shook Roxy's hand off his arm, his disgust clear. "Stop talking nonsense! That's my sister! She saved my life. If you say another word against her, you can just get out!"
Surprise and bitter disappointment flashed across Roxy's face. She hadn't anticipated that Liam would get this angry over Nevaeh.
