Chapter 45 - Something's Off......

"No… I believe I'm not. Don't worry if you're clear we won't do anything." Missio said.

"…Okay, sir. When are you going to do the investigation?" Julius asked.

"Do you have any ongoing cases?" Missio inquired.

"No, not right now…" Julius replied.

"Great! I'll send a unit there today. Make sure everyone is in the office and if anyone is on leave or absent, inform the enforcers who arrive. If they ask anything, follow their instructions, Okay?" Missio leaned back on the couch.

"Yes, sir." Julius gulped.

Missio cut the call and looked at his phone. The phone's black screen was covered in dust and light. He put it back in his pocket and kicked up his leg, placing it on his knee. He set his arm on the top of the couch and looked up. He frowned.

'That felt scripted…'

A few hours later...

Henry and Krishna alongside the rest of the first unit stood in front of the Justitia scale law firm's office. All the officers except for Henry and Krishna were holding rifles. Krishna especially seemed to be very focused. After a few moments, the doors to the building were opened by Julius. The unit instantly raided the building while Krishna and Henry stayed behind.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Julius. I'm the manager of this firm." Julius said.

"Nice to meet you too…Caesar." Krishna replied, locking eyes with Julius.

"…My last name isn't Caesar…sir." Julius smiled…oddly as if he recognized something.

Krishna walked past Julius without another word.

"Sorry for my partner. He's a bit of a clown." Henry said to Julius.

"No, it's okay." Julius went with Henry.

"Hey! Who are you calling a clown?!" Krishna shouted.

"No one!" Henry shouted back.

The unit searched the lobby but found nothing. Then, they went up to the second floor using the stairs. Henry, Krishna and Julius took the elevator. As the elevator closed, Julius suddenly asked Henry.

"Say…what makes you think our law firm was responsible for the death of the deputy?"

"Nothing, really." Henry pulled out a card from his pocket. "It's just that we found your business card at the crime scene."

Julius was dumbfounded at the sight of his law firm's business card. He snatched it from Henry's hand, holding it with both hands.

"C-couldn't someone has planted this?" He asked.

"Yes, of course but…It's an important figure they killed. So, we can't take any chances." Henry shrugged.

Eventually, the elevator ringed and they got off on the second floor. The unit was already searching for the office. The fluorescent lights flickering in perfect rhythm. Every worker stood as enforcers inspected them.

"Hey… could you hand me a list of all the people who work here?" Krishna patted Julius's back as if he was a close friend.

"…Of course, do you need it right now?" Julius staggered forward.

"Yes…" Krishna said, his eyes narrowing.

Julius scurried away to his office on the fourth floor, taking the elevator. Henry and Krishna stood as the officers finished their search.

"All clear here, sir. May we continue to the third?" An enforcer asked.

"Immediately." Henry replied.

The man saluted and led the unit to the next floor. The workers sat down in their chairs, ready to work again when Krishna shouted.

"Do not work or move from your place until the search is over."

The workers flinched and looked at Krishna. They stopped doing their work and began chatting. Krishna gave a side-eye, keeping a watchful eye on the firm. Henry noticed this but said nothing.

'Why is he so focused…It's…suspicious…'

Henry and Krishna did not linger and followed the unit up to the third floor. They put their hands in their pockets as they walked up.

"I don't know why but hands in pockets makes me feel so cool." Krishna commented.

"Same." Henry replied.

'I think I'm just overthinking – so classic of me. He's the asshole he's always been.'

Henry shrugged off his concern without a second thought, not doubting his friend. They reached the third floor where the investigation had already begun. They stood near the elevator as the officers searched for the workers present.

"Remember no one is allowed to move or work while we're searching." Krishna shouted.

The workers turned in his direction and nodded, adjusting their suits out of nervousness. After a few minutes, the elevator ringed and Julius stepped out. He was holding a folder with many papers.

"Here is the list." Julius handed the folder to Henry. "It also includes their resume, date of birth and others."

Henry pulled out his hand and picked up the folder.

"Are any employees absent or on leave?" Henry flipped a page.

"No – no one is on leave or absent." Julius replied.

"Good." Henry said at the same time.

The officers continued their search. Cabinets and drawers opened and closed chaotically. Every computer was searched and inspected. Printers and coffee machines were moved to search for evidence. A few minutes later, the search was over.

"Sir, all clear." An enforcer reported.

"Good. Proceed to the next floor." Henry replied.

The enforcer nodded and led the rest of the officers to the fourth floor. Krishna turned to look at the manager of the firm, nervously standing behind them.

"The fourth floor is where your office is correct?" Krishna asked.

"Y-yes, it is. It's also the storage place for all our past cases, awards and evidence." Julius fidgeted.

"Alright then, let's get moving." Henry closed the folder. "And I'll be taking this back for evidence if you don't mind."

"Of course not." Julius smiled, the exact same smile as before.

Henry got goosebumps but didn't know why? The trio climbed the stairs to the next floor. They arrived on the fourth floor where the enforcers were already searching through databases and Julius's office. After a few minutes of searching, the unit cleared the floor.

"All clear, sir." The enforcer said.

Krishna sighed. "Alright…"

"Nothing at all? Damn." Henry groaned. "You're clear for now but we'll keep in contact with you."

Julius also nodded and they proceeded to exit the building. Henry lifted his head and said in a calm tone.

"That felt a little…scripted."
