After a day of labor, a slightly weary An Yan sat on the sofa. Tsunade curled up on him like a kitten, and they snuggled together.
Suddenly, Tsunade picked up a banana from the coffee table and peeled it.
"An Yan, look,"
An Yan, who had been spacing out, turned to see Tsunade stick out her little tongue and lick the banana.
Who could resist that? An Yan immediately picked her up and re-entered their castle of love.
My spear has been dulled by the heavy rain, and my warhorse has rusted. But my charge is a Quixotic one. O, great windmill named Tsunade, I shall fight you for three hundred rounds! Three hundred rounds!
After their marriage, An Yan and Tsunade were inseparable. It was their honeymoon period. The Hokage, being an experienced man, tactfully did not assign An Yan any missions during this time.
There weren't many missions near the village anyway, and most of them were low-rank, for Genin.
But a Jonin couldn't be idle forever. A new batch of students had just graduated from the academy, so Hiruzen assigned An Yan a mission: to lead a team.
Training Ground 13. Three little ones were waiting obediently for their teacher.
Nawaki was getting impatient. He picked up a small stone and started throwing it at leaves, chatting idly with his teammates.
"I wonder who our teacher is. It looks like they're late."
Kana Uzumaki shook her head with a cute, dazed expression. "I don't know. Do you know, Minato?"
Minato Namikaze was holding a rubber ball, seeming to be studying something. Hearing her question, he shook his head. If the First Hokage's grandson didn't know, how would a commoner like him?
The three of them continued to wait. Meanwhile, in An Yan's water domain, in their castle of love, Tsunade and he were still fooling around.
"Come on, let go. It's my first day as a team leader!"
An Yan tried to push her away, but he couldn't bring himself to use much force. His weak push only made her more excited.
"Look, it's recovered! Let's go again!"
"Ah! Wait!"
Before he could refuse, he was pinned down by Tsunade.
An hour later, at Training Ground 13, An Yan was late.
Facing the three children's glares, he made up a lie.
"Your teacher just got lost on the path of life, so I was a little late. Hahahaha, you must have been waiting for a long time. Let's get started."
Nawaki walked up to him suspiciously and pointed at his neck. "Brother-in-law, what's this? Why is there a red spot on your neck? Are you injured?"
An Yan touched the hickey Tsunade had given him and said with a straight face, "This is an injury your brother-in-law got on a previous mission. You kids need to get stronger, or you could die at any time."
"Is that so?" Nawaki looked skeptical. Something felt off.
Kana Uzumaki was speechless. Girls mature early and already knew about such things. Seeing An Yan's blatant lie and Nawaki's apparent belief, she couldn't help but worry about the future of their team.
Our teacher seems so unreliable, and our teammate is an idiot. What should I do?
Her gaze shifted to Minato Namikaze. Fortunately, one of her teammates seemed dependable.
"Ahem," An Yan cleared his throat, no longer trying to explain the mark on his neck. He put on a warm, confident, and infectious smile.
He looked like an ordinary, cheerful young man, not a ninja at all.
Although they had met before, he still went through the introductions again.
"I'm An Yan, and from today on, I'll be your supervising Jonin. As for my skills, I'm well-versed in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. If you have any questions, you can ask me anytime. Now, let's all introduce ourselves. What you like, what you're good at, what you dislike, and what your dreams are. As a four-person squad, it's good for us to know each other."
After An Yan's introduction, Minato went first.
"I'm Minato Namikaze. I'm pretty good at the Body Flicker Technique, but I'm average at everything else. That's about it. I don't have any particular likes or dislikes. My dream is to become Hokage."
An Yan clapped his hands. "A great dream. My dream is also to become Hokage. It's a dream that requires a lot of sacrifice. Keep it up."
Minato smiled and nodded in response.
Nawaki said, slightly annoyed, "Only I can be Hokage. The village is my grandfather's treasure, and I will be the one to protect it."
An Yan smiled. "Then you'll have to compete with Minato. To become Hokage, you need the acknowledgment of all the villagers."
The mention of becoming Hokage got Nawaki excited. He pumped his fist. "I'll train hard and become a Kage who can protect everyone."
Kana facepalmed. "You haven't even introduced yourself yet."
Seeing the topic drift, she quickly brought it back. Otherwise, she wouldn't even know if she should continue.
Nawaki said seriously, "I'm Nawaki. I'm good at Water Style ninjutsu. My dream is to become Hokage."
So we're just skipping the likes and dislikes?
Kana sighed in resignation. But since An Yan didn't react, she just followed Nawaki's lead.
"I'm Kana Uzumaki. I'm good at sensory ninjutsu. I like to eat sticky rice dumplings. I don't dislike anything in particular. My dream is to become an excellent ninja who can protect everyone."
The team Hiruzen had put together was very well-balanced. Minato was a speed-type assassin. Nawaki, from the Senju clan, had a large amount of chakra and was basically a mobile cannon. And although Kana hadn't revealed much, An Yan knew from Karin's abilities that she was likely a sensory and medical ninja, a perfect support.
Nawaki's boisterous personality was similar to Naruto's. Although he had worked hard because of his grandfather's legacy and was no longer at the bottom of the class, his ranking was still average. Paired with Minato, a genius with the same dream, they would surely push each other to improve quickly.
He wasn't sure why Kana had been assigned to this team, but knowing the old clan leader, it was probably because of Nawaki. A child marriage was likely the goal.
After a brief analysis, An Yan smiled and clapped his hands.
"You all have great dreams. Next is the practical part. Let me see what you've got."
