As An Yan was speaking, Minato Namikaze had already launched his attack. Kunai in hand, he instantly appeared in front of An Yan, aiming for his kidney.
At the same time, Kana Uzumaki attacked in sync. She spread her hands, and two sealing scrolls automatically unfurled. With a light tap, a barrage of ninja tools poured out towards An Yan.
Nawaki wasn't idle either. His hands flew through seals, and he spat out a whip of water that snaked towards An Yan.
An Yan's response was simple. He nonchalantly took a few steps to the side. His movements were slow, visible to the naked eye, as if he were only using the strength of a Genin.
But that simple shift in position completely changed the situation. Minato, who had been at the forefront of the coordinated assault, suddenly found himself the target of his own teammates' attacks.
This was the definition of "friendly fire."
Minato hastily turned, frantically parrying the attacks from his teammates. Fortunately, his reflexes were sharp, or he would have been seriously injured.
However, Nawaki's water whip still flew past Minato towards An Yan. While ninja tools were hard to control once thrown, ninjutsu was much easier to direct, preventing accidental friendly fire.
Facing the incoming water whip, An Yan was unhurried. He assumed a Tai Chi-like stance. A current of air swirled around him. With a raise of his hand, he caught the water whip, wrapped it around his body in a circle, and then, with a push, sent the attack flying back to its owner. Nawaki, caught off guard, was drenched by his own water jutsu.
This was a nin-taijutsu technique An Yan had developed in his spare time called "Supreme Goodness is Like Water," inspired by a counter-attack skill from the game Moonlight Blade. It was only really effective against Genin and Chunin.
But the move completely mesmerized Minato and Nawaki. It was simply too cool. Teacher, I want to learn that!
Kana, however, was not distracted by his stylish performance. She pulled out a large number of scrolls, each containing various sealed ninja tools or jutsu.
An Yan raised an eyebrow. He had thought Kana was similar to Karin, but now she seemed more like Tenten.
The three kids charged at him again. An Yan casually exchanged a few blows, getting a general sense of their abilities. He already had a training plan for them in mind.
For someone like Minato, who was already on a successful path, he would continue to develop in that style. The Flying Thunder God plus Rasengan was a brokenly powerful combination.
For a knucklehead like Nawaki, he could be trained in the same way as Naruto. The Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu would increase his margin for error, and with some training in the five basic elements, he could maximize the advantage of his massive chakra reserves.
Kana, like Nawaki, had huge chakra reserves. He would teach her the five basic elements and some medical ninjutsu. Combined with the Uzumaki clan's sealing jutsu, she could become a powerhouse, a combination of a healer and a mage.
After getting a good grasp of their overall strength, An Yan called a halt.
"Alright, I have a general idea of your abilities. That's enough for today. Starting tomorrow, we'll be doing official missions. For now, I'll treat you all to ramen."
"Yay!" Nawaki cheered. He loved ramen.
An Yan took the three of them to a ramen shop. The famous Ichiraku Ramen didn't exist yet, but the ramen here was just as good.
After they ordered, they began to chat.
"How are you guys doing with the jutsu I taught you? Made any progress?"
Hearing this, Nawaki looked embarrassed. He still had no clue how to train the Rasengan. Kana was the same, but the difference was that Nawaki had tried and failed, while Kana hadn't tried at all. She had been busy learning sealing jutsu and hadn't had the time. Besides, An Yan had only shown them how the Rasengan was formed, not its power, so she wasn't very motivated.
Minato, however, was from a commoner family. Unlike the other two, he would diligently study any jutsu he could learn.
The three of them looked at each other, and Minato finally spoke up.
"Teacher An Yan, I think I've made some progress with that jutsu. I estimate I'll be able to master it completely soon."
"Good, good. When you've mastered it, I'll teach you an even more advanced jutsu."
An Yan nodded in satisfaction. The best thing about a genius student was that they were low-maintenance.
As they were eating, a few more people entered the shop. An Yan looked up and saw it was Orochimaru with his students.
For some reason, Hiruzen hadn't assigned Orochimaru to be Nawaki's teacher this time, instead giving him to An Yan. He wasn't sure of the reasoning. Maybe he thought An Yan was closer to Nawaki?
"Orochimaru, over here!"
An Yan waved, and Orochimaru came over.
"An Yan, so the Third has drafted you too."
An Yan laughed. "Aren't you also leading a team? How are they? Any outstanding students?"
Orochimaru glanced at him. Is that really something you should say in front of the students? But he couldn't just ignore the question; his own students were watching.
"My students are all quite excellent. An Yan, are you asking because you have someone special you want to show off?"
An Yan laughed. "You know me too well, Orochimaru. That's right, my three disciples are also very talented. But I have the highest hopes for this little blondie."
He pointed at Minato, who gave an awkward smile. Orochimaru looked at him with interest.
"He seems like a decent ninja, but is there anything special about him?"
An Yan just smiled. Orochimaru may be incredibly strong now, but in four or five years, he might not be a match for Minato.
Seeing An Yan being mysterious, Orochimaru wasn't annoyed. He had known him for years and understood his personality. So, this boy must have some hidden talent that he couldn't see.
Orochimaru looked at Minato again but still couldn't see anything special. He didn't dwell on it and started eating his noodles.
As he ate, An Yan glanced at Orochimaru's students. They all looked ordinary, not like any famous characters from the original timeline. They were just background characters.
The butterfly effect was growing larger.
