CHAPTER 106— When The World Went Silent

The boardroom was warm, polished, and suffocating.
Numbers, projections, investor faces all of it blurred in front of me. I was answering, nodding, signing documents while part of me kept drifting back home. Back to her. To the strange stillness in her eyes lately. To the way her fingers hovered over her stomach sometimes like instinct, like a secret her body already knew even if her lips hadn't spoken it.
I promised her I'd make time.
I promised I'd talk.
I promised I'd breathe with her again.
And then my phone rang.
Driver.
I almost ignored it this meeting was too big. Until I saw the second call. And the third. Rapid. Violent. Urgent.
My blood froze.
I answered.
His voice broke before the words formed.
"Sir you need to come. Miss Rina.. the kids there was there was a shot, sir at the park"
My heart didn't beat. It fell.
"What?" My voice cracked like glass.
