Chapter 74 - Slaughtering Sentinels Like Dogs, the Tragic Life of Lesser Mutants

The Sentinels still detected that his genes did not belong to an ordinary human being, and attempted to eliminate him.

"Courting death."

Chen Xi's eyes went cold. He glanced at the nearest Sentinel and threw a single punch—and it exploded instantly.

When one's strength reached such unimaginable heights, no material forged on Earth could withstand it.

The other Sentinels transformed in an instant—into fire, ice, steel, rock—each trying to escape the spatial confinement. But it was futile.

"Space—twist!"

With Chen Xi's low murmur, the space imprisoning the Sentinels distorted violently, like some divine beauty filter turned to the maximum—and the entire area warped and twisted.

The Sentinels within were shredded into eighty-one fragments, crushed beyond recognition.

The people nearby were utterly dumbfounded. Those terrifying robots from moments ago—why were they suddenly so fragile?

Even more incredible was the fact that this powerful, mysterious man…was none other than the world-renowned screenwriter, Chen Xi.

After finishing off the Sentinels, he looked down at the dirty little girl and smiled gently.

"Come with me. I'll take you home."

The girl was still in a daze; the world as she knew it had completely collapsed.

She nodded numbly, then suddenly remembered something—she knelt and began hurriedly picking up the empty bottles on the ground, stuffing them into her tattered cloth bag.

That scene made several men on the sidewalk tear up.

Chen Xi didn't stop her. He just watched quietly, eyes reflecting a trace of memory.

Hadn't he once been the same?

At her age, after school every day, he'd rummage through trash cans outside the campus collecting bottles under the puzzled and mocking stares of his classmates.

They'd often call him a scavenger.

At first, he argued and even fought back, but eventually he realized it was all meaningless.

Malnourished and weak, he was always beaten bloody. But as the beatings continued, he began to understand.

People said that poor children grew up faster—but in truth, it was life that forced them to.

He grew more and more ruthless, always carrying a steel rod in his schoolbag.Anyone who dared to bully him after school would get beaten half to death.

He left no way out for himself, like a wounded beast who feared nothing and no one.

He believed firmly that as long as he didn't die, one day he would rise above it all.

Time passed. Those same kids—protected by their parents—were nothing more than spoiled bullies. And since no one influential attended that poor school, their parents' complaints went nowhere. The principal ignored them entirely—especially since Chen Xi's grades were among the best.

Gradually, no one dared to provoke him again.Life slowly got better.

When he grew older, he left the orphanage. Its finances were dire, and he could already support himself—and sometimes even bought stationery for the younger kids.

"Let's go, big brother."

The girl's soft voice brought Chen Xi back from his memories.

"Alright. Can you take me to where you live?" he asked gently.

"…Okay."The little girl hesitated, glancing at his clean clothes, then nodded.

"Confinement, transfer some money to my location," Chen Xi said into his phone."Have someone bring daily necessities."

Then, holding the girl's small hand, he walked slowly toward her home.

He knew their range of movement couldn't be far—likely just a few kilometers.

The surrounding onlookers watched the man and girl disappear into the distance, then erupted into a thunderous uproar.

Was he… a god?

The man hailed as the greatest screenwriter of the 21st century had descended like a deity, shaking the world with his power.

Chen Xi's sudden and overwhelming strike had caught Stryker completely off guard.Seeing the Sentinels destroyed so easily left Stryker pale with shock.

He stared at the remains, doubtful."Is this really the invincible design that old fool bragged about? Looks a bit oversold to me."

Nick Fury, seeing Stryker's distress, tried to console him."So what if he's powerful? We can just keep upgrading the Sentinels! He can destroy ten or eight—what about a million?"

Stryker's expression darkened. "You're right. Every man has weaknesses. No one is invincible. You monitor the world, don't you? A celebrity like him—surely you know his soft spots?"

"His weakness…" Fury frowned, thinking deeply.Stryker had a point—they kept tabs on global threats, but rarely dug into the private lives of ordinary public figures.

"Wait. I remember now—there's a woman. She handles almost everything for him.If we control her, Chen Xi will have no choice but to obey."

Fury's eyes lit up.

"But catching her won't be easy," he added. "Chen Xi's a complete shut-in.He barely leaves home. Wanda's probably being kept indoors too."

That thought gave Fury a headache.The man was a recluse—completely anti-social.

Stryker sneered. "Heh… I have a son, Jason. You haven't forgotten his nickname, have you?"

Fury slapped his forehead—and grinned just as darkly.

The Master of Illusions.

Meanwhile, Chen Xi and the little girl arrived at what she called home.

When the Sentinel Project was activated, Chen Xi knew the countdown to his true mission had begun. It was time for him to step out from the shadows.

The Home of Wanderers…

He looked at the abandoned underground tunnel and sighed. The air reeked of rot and decay. Broken furniture, tattered bedding—filth everywhere.

As he followed the girl inside, children of all ages peeked out timidly, their eyes full of curiosity. He looked completely out of place among them.

"Mary-sis, who is he? He looks kind of familiar,"asked a grimy little boy whose ears resembled those of a dog.

He was one of the lowest-class mutants.

Unable to live among normal humans, abandoned by their parents as monsters—they survived only by helping one another.Otherwise, they would have starved long ago.

Chen Xi looked around at the children.Every one of them bore some deformity—a twisted hand, animal ears, malformed heads or feet.

Their clothes were old and mismatched, scavenged from trash heaps. In their small, sorrowful eyes glimmered a fragile longing for the world above.

In their hands were broken toys—headless teddy bears, limbless dolls, toy cars with missing wheels—things other children had thrown away, yet they treated them like treasures.

Soon, several older kids and young teens returned, carrying ragged bags with pitiful scraps of food.Seeing Chen Xi, they instantly became alert—even though they knew they could never match his strength, they still stood protectively before the younger ones.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

Under the dim yellow light, their silhouettes radiated courage and warmth, bringing the children a sense of safety.

Chen Xi fell silent. They hadn't done anything wrong—and yet fate still refused to spare them.
