Chapter 108 - A Request

My name is Aisha Miller. My father is Óscar Miller; he is a smuggler who transports merchandise to the Mexico border and is in charge of returning with more product from that country.

His job is simple: one trip there and the other back, to make the most of his time away from home.

Everything would have been as always if he hadn't disappeared a few weeks ago. Overnight we stopped hearing from him and now I fear something has happened to him.

We contacted the company, which actually tracked his route, but overnight they lost the signal from his truck. The authorities said they would do something, but the location where Óscar disappeared was complicated, and it would take them a long time to investigate.

Besides, they didn't know whether he had actually disappeared on national or foreign soil, which would make the investigation much more difficult.

But Aisha didn't have time; she was desperate and urgently needed to go to someone who could save her father.

Her mother had fallen into a deep depression and to cope she buried herself in work; she withdrew from the family and waited patiently for the authorities to bring news.

No one but her was the right person to save her father or at least to find news of him—Aisha knew that.

Over time she had lost all hope, until her little neighbor one day came to her with very specific instructions on how she could find news of her father.

That girl's name was Gwen Shaw; it was rumored that her mother had special abilities, but those were just rumors—people didn't talk about it because she had died a long time ago and her husband was a crazily protective man with his family.

Aisha didn't have many chances to find out more about her father, so after much thought she followed the instructions exactly as they were written on the sheet of paper.

[You have to go to Mrs. Perry's restaurant at 11:30 in the morning, speak to a man in a black suit who is sitting with a girl dressed in black with pigtails, and tell him who the man is that kills bad people.]

"Girl, who told you about me?" Jonathan asked, very interested.

"Eh?" Aisha was startled again and looked up at Jonathan, who was staring at her intently.

"Give me your hand." Wednesday demanded when she realized this could be a big case, so she didn't miss her chance to find out a little more.

Aisha, a little scared, gave her hand to Wednesday and then looked at Jonathan, who was very calm.

"You mentioned some things that intrigue me, so you will tell me the name of the person who told you what I do," Jonathan said as he ate his baguette.

This girl had a problem—he could sense it—but first he had to know who had told her that before continuing.

Aisha looked around, fearing she was being overheard, and murmured, "My father disappeared at the border with Mexico. My friend Gwen said that some terrible things captured him, so I need your help to find him."

"Gwen? I also need her last name." Jonathan took out a mini computer and began to type the name.

"She's not a bad person, she just wanted to help me."

"And I'm not evil either; I just help people selflessly. So if you want me to help you, you need to give me the full name of the person who recommended me," Jonathan said with a kind look—at least that was his intention.

Aisha thought for a long time and murmured, "Gwen Shaw. She's my friend; she goes to elementary school, so I hope this doesn't cause her problems. I heard her father is a very bad person; he would hit his daughter without thinking."

Jonathan entered the name and soon the name of her mother appeared: Ale Shaw. That woman had been a medium and clairvoyant who died at the hands of an evil spirit.

That woman's work had been key to eliminating numerous dark entities. After her death, at her own request, her family was no longer involved in problems.

Perhaps her father knew that his daughter had the same abilities as her mother, Jonathan thought—maybe those abilities were awakening now, and that would be of utmost importance to the Association of Light if she possessed them.

But Jonathan would not sentence her as others had done to her mother; Gwen would take the path that suited her best.

Still, he would give a warning—he hoped a child would understand.

"Alright, now tell me about your problem and be very descriptive," Jonathan said, paying close attention to the distraught Aisha.

Aisha nodded and said, "I think my father disappeared after encountering something very dark on his way home. Please, I need your help; there is no one else who can help me."
