"Oh, I forgot to tell you. The Alpha was picking his mate today—his only mate's aunt and also his wife. And it seemed the lady he was talking to had already caught his attention, judging by the way he kept smiling at her." Penny cleared the air.
If Penny thought she was helping me escape my confusion, she was wrong. She was feeding it—with extra spice—because now my stomach burned with something dangerously close to hunger.
No, he's supposed to be in love with me, right? RIGHT?
I told myself that, even though I'd rejected him on the night of our marriage. But still, my heart twisted painfully at the thought of him not chasing me anymore.
So why didn't he come into my room this morning and lie to me again—that he was the one who saved me?
I wanted to walk away, maybe come back later when he was busy. But the thought of him picking her, or just standing there with her, made me want to pull my hair out.
Then a grim idea struck.
