"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 181: Just Think of Me as Your Discount Sister-in-Law
Night had settled over the city in a soft haze. Long Yi and Mai Sakurajima walked side by side down the quiet street.
With Mai still wearing Nodoka's face, Long Yi found things much simpler—no need to constantly tinker with memory-altering magic just to keep up appearances.
"So, how's Nodoka doing lately?" Mai asked, genuine concern in her voice.
"Same old story. Zero confidence." Long Yi replied.
Mai frowned. "Didn't you try talking her through it?"
He shrugged. "Not really my job description, is it?"
Mai reached out and tugged gently at his cheek. "You're my boyfriend. Helping out my little sister is the least you can do."
Long Yi grinned. "You mean, soft words and hand-holding? She's not a kid anymore. Besides, weren't you the one worried I'd get too close to her?"
Mai shot him a glare, clearly caught off guard. "I never said you should cross the line!"
Long Yi just smirked. "All I can do is try. But honestly, asking a demon to comfort a girl is a stretch. Tempting out her inner desires—that's more my style."
Mai sighed, half amused, half exasperated. "Guess I was hoping for too much from you."
He shrugged again, voice light. "Sorry to disappoint."
He turned, catching her gaze. "You know, you're the one who actually understands the real problem here. Yet you want me, the outsider, to fix it for you?"
Mai shook her head. "You're not an outsider. You're my man."
Long Yi's grin softened. "That's a title I like."
But he quickly sobered up. "Still, it's no use. This is between you and your sister. I can't fix everything."
Mai was smart. She'd figured out the heart of their situation before Long Yi had, but even she struggled to put it into words.
Honestly, these sisters were exhausting.
"Let's just wait for tomorrow. Emotional knots take time to untangle. Like I said, I'll do my best."
He chuckled, slipping an arm around her waist.
"You walk too slow. Let's fly home."
Mai glanced down at his hand on her waist, feigning annoyance. "I don't really want you touching me right now."
Long Yi just laughed. "Whatever. Just think of me as your discount sister-in-law."
Mai blinked. "…Excuse me?"
His shamelessness was truly next-level.
By the time they landed back at Mai's place, it was nearly eleven. Nodoka had already gone to bed.
"It's late. You should head home," Mai said, kicking off her dance shoes and settling onto the sofa, rubbing her sore feet.
"Does it hurt?" Long Yi asked, voice gentle.
"Just a little sore."
"I'll massage them for you."
"No way. This is Nodoka's body, so hands off." Mai smiled, shaking her head.
"So if you change back, I get to touch you?" Long Yi tilted his head, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Actually, I've been wanting to try something new."
"…What?"
Instead of answering, Long Yi simply reached out, magic swirling around his fingertips.
In a flash, Mai's appearance shifted—Nodoka's features melted away, and Mai's own face returned in the mirror.
Mai stared, stunned. "How did you do that?"
"It's complicated. A demon lord called it 'Transcendence.' Supposedly, only one-in-a-billion geniuses ever figure it out. Lucky me."
He grinned, but Mai just looked baffled.
"So you could've fixed this identity swap all along? Why didn't you change Nodoka back?"
Long Yi shook his head. "Not quite. You're only back to normal while I'm here, channeling power. The moment I leave, you'll switch back to Nodoka's face."
Transcendence was wild—able to temporarily rewrite reality itself. Long Yi had sensed it could undo the weird swap between Mai and Nodoka, so he'd given it a shot.
But he hadn't mastered it yet—or maybe it just couldn't last. The second he stopped, everything would revert.
"Nodoka needs to build her own confidence. She has to face things herself. So let's keep this power between us for now."
Mai nodded. It made sense.
She smiled at her reflection, feeling a little lighter—at least she knew she could change back, even if just for a while.
"Not a permanent fix, but it's nice to know."
"So, can I finally massage your feet?"
"You just wanted a test subject, didn't you?" Mai shot him a look.
Long Yi laughed, settling beside her and gently cradling her feet in his hands.
Mai's cheeks flushed, warmth spreading from his touch. Her eyes softened, lingering on him.
He grinned. "If you'll let me, I'd love to do a lot more."
"…Nodoka's right next door," Mai protested, searching for an excuse.
"I'll set up a barrier."
"Are you insatiable?"
Long Yi shrugged. "Not really. I just like being close to you."
He swept her up in a bridal carry, ignoring her protests.
Mai blinked. "Weren't you going to massage my feet?"
"We can do that in the bedroom…" Long Yi said, planting a kiss on her lips. "You want this too, don't you?"
Mai turned away, ears burning. "Maybe I'm partly to blame for making you this eager…"
"I told you, I'm not insatiable."
Long Yi chuckled, careful not to push too far. Mai was pure-hearted, even when she tried to act worldly. No matter how calm she pretended to be, his teasing always turned her cheeks scarlet.
In the bedroom, Long Yi laid Mai gently on the bed. Her face was shy, flushed, her eyes shining.
He leaned in, pressing her close, and kissed her deeply.
The glow of the barrier flickered, sealing them away in their own world—just the two of them, lost in each other.
