"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 261: I Missed You—So, So Much

Nearly two months in the Underworld had left Draconis Yi changed. His battle with Sairaorg had pushed him further, and now, somewhere deep inside, he could sense the edge of a new realm.

Just one more step, and he'd reach the ranks of the ultimate-class devils.

Beyond that lay the special-class—Maou level. He was still far from that, but rank alone couldn't measure his power. Maybe, when he finally broke through, his abilities would fully awaken and his strength leap again.

Back in the human world, Draconis Yi sorted through bags and boxes, prepping gifts.

"Heading out?" Rias asked, smiling as she and the others watched.

"Yep. Time to deliver presents to my girlfriend," he replied, grinning.

Rias coughed, a hint of teasing in her voice. "Those Underworld crystal trinkets you bought? Isn't that a little… basic for a gift?"

Draconis Yi held up a handful of shimmering, multicolored crystal jewelry. "They're practical! Keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer, wards off bugs, clears your head, fights fatigue, boosts focus—honestly, they're amazing."

These gems were prized in the Underworld, but someone of Rias's status barely glanced at them. Her family had given Draconis Yi far more valuable things, but those were too supernatural for the human world—a single item would cause a sensation. The Underworld crystals were perfect: subtle, useful, and unlikely to attract attention.

"Ara? Bracelets, earrings, necklaces… but no rings?" Akeno teased, eyes twinkling.

"Skipped the rings on purpose," Draconis Yi laughed. "Just like with you all, the wedding bands have to be top shelf. No way I'm giving out anything less."

That earned him a round of blushes from the girls.

He waved, still smiling. "Alright, I'm off. You've all got things to do."

Everyone scattered to their own routines.

First stop: Mai Sakurajima's place. The house was empty—she was probably filming.

He dialed her number. After two rings, her manager, Ryoko Hanawa, picked up.

"Hello, is this… Draconis Yi-san?"

"Ryoko-san? How'd you know it was me?" he asked, amused.

"…Because Mai-san's contact for you says 'Boyfriend,'" Ryoko replied, sounding faintly exasperated.

"Really? Doesn't matter. It'll change soon anyway."

"Huh? Change to what?"

"To 'Husband.'"

"…You're impossible," Ryoko muttered. "Hold on, Mai's almost done. I'll have her call you back."

"Thanks."

With time to spare, Draconis Yi teleported over to see his sister-in-law, Nodoka Toyohama.

She was practicing dance, loose clothes clinging to her as she spun. His sudden arrival threw her off balance.

"Wah! Why'd you pop up out of nowhere?!"

Draconis Yi grinned. "Just got back from the Underworld. Brought you a present."

He handed her a necklace, the heart-shaped blue gem sparkling in the light.

"Ah? This is gorgeous… Is it a real gemstone? It looks expensive…"

"If you don't want it, I'll take it back," he teased.

Nodoka's eyes widened, torn between shock and indecision.

He laughed. "Just kidding. Got more gifts to deliver—see you!"

Before she could respond, he teleported away.

"Huh? You're leaving already?!" Nodoka called after him, mixed between delight and disappointment.

When Mai's call came, Draconis Yi wasted no time teleporting to her side.

"Mai."

He spoke softly. After two months apart, he'd missed her more than he cared to admit. Maybe it was the soul-deep connection they shared—she was the one who resonated with him most.

"Is it just me, or have you changed a lot?" Mai looked him up and down, surprised.

"Got more handsome?"

"Not exactly—your aura's just… different," she said, thoughtful.

"That means more handsome," he joked, unconcerned. As long as he looked good, he was happy.

He stepped closer, arms sliding around her waist.

"Did you miss me?"

Mai's voice was cool. "No."

"So you missed me a lot?"

"No." A mischievous smile tugged at her lips.

"So you missed me very, very much?"

"Yes, yes, yes—stop adding words," she finally surrendered, laughing at his stubbornness.

Satisfied, Draconis Yi pulled out his gift—a bracelet, dazzling and flawless, putting any jade to shame.

Mai examined it, eyes wide. "This isn't jade… What is it?"

"Underworld gemstone. Like it?" he asked softly.

"I do, but we're not allowed jewelry at school," Mai said, making a face.

"Wear it anyway. If anyone complains, I'll enchant it so nobody else can see."

"And what's the point of that, you dummy?"

Mai rolled her eyes, but slipped the bracelet on, showing off her wrist.

"Does it look good?"

"Of course—it's my pick."

"I meant me, not the gift," Mai huffed.

"Isn't it obvious? I picked you, too."

Draconis Yi leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss.

Mai's arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him into a deep, lingering embrace.

After a long moment, she drew back, eyes shining.

"I missed you…"

"I know."

"I missed you a lot."

"I know."

"Good," Mai said, smiling, content.

"What, not going to say 'very, very much'?" Draconis Yi teased, eyebrows raised.

Mai giggled, playful as ever. "Too much trouble to keep adding words. You get the idea."
