"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 262: We All Like the Same Person

After reuniting with Mai, Draconis Yi couldn't bring himself to leave. He lingered until her workday was truly over, and together they strolled home, hand in hand, with Mai swinging a bag of fresh groceries.

Shoes off at the door, Mai slipped into an apron and disappeared into the kitchen. Draconis Yi followed, rolling up his sleeves to help with dinner prep. The evening unfolded in gentle warmth—shared stories, laughter, the soft hush of night settling outside.

As the hour grew late, Draconis Yi stretched, voice low. "I'm gonna grab a shower."

"I'll get you some clothes," Mai said, already heading for the closet. She'd kept all the things he'd left behind, washed and folded, ready for moments like this.

Draconis Yi caught her hand, grinning. "Why not shower together?"

Mai, ever composed, just replied, "I'll go after you."

"That's such a waste of water. Think how much we could save if we bathed together."

Before Mai could protest, Draconis Yi scooped her up in his arms. Her cheeks flared crimson.

"You're impossible," she muttered, half embarrassed, half amused.

He kissed her, carried her straight to the bathroom, and soon the sound of running water mixed with soft laughter and muffled voices.

After a leisurely, teasing bath, they tumbled into bed, hearts racing and bodies pressed close. When passion finally ebbed, Mai lay sprawled across him, listening to his heartbeat.

"Did you see Nodoka?" she asked suddenly, voice soft.

"Stopped by while waiting for your call. Gave her a present, then came right back."

Mai's lips pursed. "That girl… she annoys me sometimes."

Draconis Yi blinked. "Did you two fight again?"

"She wants to steal you from me." Mai's words were quiet, but the jealousy was unmistakable.

He smiled, gentle. "You two really are sisters."

Mai frowned. "I can share everything with her, but not you."

Draconis Yi couldn't help but tease. "So when I turn you into a devil for eternal life, I'll leave her out?"

Mai fell silent, conflicted. She shifted, propped herself up, then bumped her forehead against his—only to wince. "Ouch."

He laughed softly, rubbing her brow. "Mai, Nodoka knows the real world now. Do you really think she'd want to forget everything and go back to being just a normal human?"

"I know… but I still don't want to share you. If it's devil girlfriends, that's just how things work, but with my sister, it feels… wrong."

He grinned. "Alright, I'll just keep it secret from you next time."

Mai shot him a look—equal parts disbelief and outrage—then rolled away, back turned, sulking.

Draconis Yi snuggled up, earning a shove.

"Don't touch me."

He chuckled. "You're even cuter when you're mad."

She tried to resist, but soon enough, laughter and warmth pulled them back together.

Morning light crept in. After breakfast together, Draconis Yi walked Mai downstairs. Her manager's car pulled up, ready to whisk her off to set.

"Take good care of Mai, Ryoko-san," he called.

Ryoko grinned. "Don't worry—your superstar is in safe hands."

Driving off, Ryoko glanced at Mai, eyes mischievous. "Did you have a sweet night with your boyfriend?"

"Don't say weird things," Mai protested, cheeks pink.

Ryoko just laughed. "Lucky you. Handsome, devoted—what more could you want?"

Mai groaned, her embarrassment drowned out by Ryoko's teasing as the car sped away.

With Mai off to work, Draconis Yi dialed Miku Nakano.

At this hour, she'd still be home. Best to give her a heads-up.

The phone barely rang before Miku's voice burst through, full of excitement. "Draconis Yi? You're back?!"

"Yeah, I'm home. Are you all there?"

"Yep! Are you coming over?"

He could hear the other sisters crowding around, a chorus of giggles and shuffling.

"Wait for me—I'll be right there."

A flash of teleportation, and he appeared in the quintuplets' apartment. The five sisters were clearly about to head out.

"Good timing. Any later and you'd be off to work, huh?"

With Ichika's plan for everyone to share rent, they all juggled part-time jobs—even in the last days of summer break.

"Welcome back!" they chorused, faces bright with joy. Nearly two months apart had left them missing him more than they cared to admit.

Draconis Yi smiled, gaze gentle. "I brought gifts."

He produced a handful of dazzling gemstone jewelry. Five pairs of eyes widened in delight.

"So pretty!"

Five gifts—two necklaces, a bracelet, a pair of earrings, and a hair ornament—all exquisite.

"Pick whichever you like."

"Mm, they're all gorgeous. I kinda want them all," Ichika joked, eyes twinkling.

"Greedy as ever," Itsuki teased.

"As the eldest, I should get first pick, right?" Ichika bargained, reaching for the earrings.

"No way—the eldest goes last! I'm first," Itsuki laughed, eyeing the diamond necklace.

"Let's all choose together!" Miku declared. "Three, two, one—go!"

Five hands shot out, each pointing to a different piece.

Draconis Yi just smiled. "As expected."

"When it comes to picking things we like, we never overlap…" Miku mused with a laugh.

"…But the person we like is the same," Nino added, voice dry.

Silence. Five faces, one secret, hanging in the air.
