Chapter 44 - Chapter 44 — Unknown Past

Long ago, before castles, before names like Foreverness, before peace ever existed, the world was ruled by fear.

In those ancient times, two races stood above all others.

Vampires.And Werewolves.

Vampires were born from the night itself. They lived in shadows and survived on blood, but they also had order, rules, and control. They built hidden kingdoms and watched humans from afar. Time was their ally.

Werewolves were born from the wild. From forests, mountains, and the moon. Their strength came from rage and instinct. When the full moon rose, they lost control and became unstoppable beasts. Fast, brutal, and fearless.

At first, both races ignored each other.

But power always brings conflict.

The first war began when a vampire lord crossed into werewolf land. Blood was spilled. The moon turned red that night. From then on, hatred was born.

Vampires called werewolves beasts.Werewolves called vampires parasites.

The war lasted for centuries.

Cities were destroyed. Forests burned. Even humans suffered between them. No side truly won. Only death spread.

Finally, when the world was close to collapse, one vampire lord made a choice.

He was not the strongest. But he was the wisest.

He sacrificed himself.

Using his life, blood, and soul, he created a massive barrier. A wall between the land of vampires and the land of werewolves. A barrier that divided the world forever.

The war stopped.

Peace returned.

But before the lord vanished, he left behind a warning.

"This barrier is not eternal."

"When the moon shines brighter than ever…"

"When time reaches forty generations…"

"The wall will break."

"And the war will return."

That truth was forgotten by many.

But not all.

Oban suddenly opened his eyes.

But he was not in his room.

He slowly stood up and looked around.

The place was filled with shadows. No walls. No sky. No ground he could understand. Darkness moved like fog, silent and heavy.

Oban frowned.

"Where am I…?"

Then a voice echoed.

Clear.Mechanical.Yet human.

"Initializing system interface."

Oban's eyes widened.

"System?"

"Yes," the voice replied. "System confirmed. Upgrade completed."

A blue light appeared before him. Screens formed, clean and sharp. The voice now sounded more alive, like a person speaking through metal.

"What's the matter?" Oban asked.

"New trial has been assigned," the system said.

A window appeared.

[Quest Generated]Objective: Retrieve a DollTarget Location: Inside a MageReward: Unknown

Oban stared.

"A doll… inside a mage?"

"That sounds easy," he said.

Then he paused.

"…Where is the mage?"

The system answered calmly.

"Preparing environment."

The shadows twisted. The empty space changed. A city appeared—quiet, still, unreal.

"Welcome to the virtual world," the system said.

Another warning appeared.

All abilities locked.Weapons locked.Skills locked.

Oban clenched his fists.

"You want me to do this without power?"

"Yes," the system replied. "Find the doll using your own way."

Oban took a deep breath.

"Fine," he said. "I'll try."

He stepped forward.

Deep inside a dark forest, far from the vampire lands, the moonlight barely touched the ground.

Rakan stood still.

Beside him was his uncle.

They walked deeper into the forest, past old trees and broken ground, until figures appeared from the darkness.

They were not human.

Their eyes glowed. Their bodies were strong.

Werewolves.

Dozens of them gathered silently.

The moon rose higher.

Rakan stepped forward.

"The barrier is weakening," he said.

His uncle looked at the moon.

"The time is near."

One by one, their bodies changed. Bones shifted. Fur covered skin. Eyes burned.

Wolves.

Rakan lifted his head toward the glowing moon.

"It's time for revenge."

The forest trembled.

And far away—

The barrier began to crack.
