Chapter 199 - Chapter 4: The Door Beneath the Villa

After getting their weapons, the group set off again.

On the way, Rain cautiously approached Morin and lowered her voice.

"Uh... when did we meet? What was our relationship?"

She kept it quiet, but the assault team was just as quiet.

Everyone heard her.

They were more than happy to spectate.

Rain had already taken the photo to Chad to confirm it wasn't photoshopped.

She was certain the woman in the picture was her.

That was the problem.

When had she ever met this man? When had this photo been taken?

She searched her memory and found nothing that made sense.

So she asked him directly.

"I was kidding. That photo is fake," Morin said with a chuckle as he took it back.

"Have you ever heard of high-tech? I just need to look at you for a second, and I can make a photo like that."

"...," Rain stared at him.

"Are you sure?"

"Of course." Morin nodded.

He felt the prank had gone far enough.

He had no real intentions toward Rain.

If this continued, things would get complicated.

They weren't the same person, but they looked exactly alike.

That alone was trouble.

For some reason, Mystique flashed through his mind.

To be fair, her ability could fulfill the fantasies of every man in the world.

"Then where's the machine?" Rain asked, unwilling to drop it.

Morin's acting was flawless, and the photo was too real.

Even Rain was starting to doubt herself.

"It's in the villa," Morin replied.

"Can I see it when we get back?"

"...Of course not." Morin refused immediately.

"That's a secret of my organization. Why would I show it to an outsider?"

"...," Rain said nothing more and walked away.

Morin didn't think for a second that she believed him.

A woman with that kind of temperament wouldn't fall for something so easily.

She was just confused.

Her furrowed brows made that clear.

But it didn't matter.

Morin planned to leave Blue Star sooner or later anyway.

With the Interstellar Federation out there, not checking it out would be a waste.

Five kilometers wasn't far, especially for the assault team.

Soon, they reached the villa that concealed the Hive's entrance.

"The intel says the security personnel here are Alice and Spence Parks," Chad reported after checking his data.

"They're posing as a married couple to hide the Hive's backup passage."

"Break in," James ordered.

"Control the situation. If there's nothing unexpected, don't kill anyone."

"Just go in," Morin said.

"There are surveillance and defense systems from the Red Queen here. When she sealed the Hive, she released anesthetic gas. They should still be unconscious."

"You know that too?" James asked.

"I know a lot more than you think," Morin replied as he pushed the door open.

"I've already told you everything I can."

He ignored the team scanning the surroundings and walked straight inside.

His destination was clear.

The bathroom.

X-ray vision made navigation unnecessary.

They had arrived early.

Alice was still unconscious in the bathtub.

Completely naked.

That wasn't how it went in the movie.

Morin remembered the team arriving after she woke up, dressed, and explored the villa.

He didn't know why it was different.

What he did know was that Alice was small.

And... visually acceptable.

Ahem.

The villa door hadn't been locked.

Morin entered without hesitation and headed straight for the bathroom.

As a gentleman-without quotation marks-he naturally prepared clothes for the lady.

That was reasonable.

Unfortunately, accidents happened even to gentlemen.

Just as Morin picked up a bathrobe and stepped in, Alice opened her eyes.

"You need to cover up."

Their gazes met.

Without hesitation, Morin handed her the bathrobe.

"...Thank you," Alice said, instinctively clutching her chest.

Luckily, the robe she'd dropped earlier was already covering most of her.

"Who are you?"

Her mind was still hazy from the anesthetic gas.

Her shoulder throbbed where it had struck the tub.

But her thoughts were starting to organize.

She wrapped herself in the bathrobe.

Morin's calm expression showed no embarrassment.

So Alice didn't feel particularly shy.

Her scattered thoughts drew a strange conclusion.

"Maybe... someone I was close to?"

"Otherwise, why would he be so calm?"

"You have amnesia," Morin said after she finished dressing.

"Come with me. There are things you need to know."

"Let go of me!"

Outside, the team had already detained Matt Addison.

Lisa Addison's brother.

A supposed police officer.

In reality, a member of an illegal organization.

They believed Umbrella was researching a terrifying genetic virus.

Their goal was to expose it.

From a certain perspective, they weren't wrong.

Umbrella was airtight.

To infiltrate it, Lisa went undercover in the Hive.

There, she met the backup passage security personnel-Spence and Alice.

The marriage was fake.

The feelings weren't.

Spence, however, had his own plans.

He wanted to steal the T-virus as evidence.

And sell it on the black market.

To cover it up, he shattered a vial, triggering the Hive's lockdown.

Everyone inside died.

And then they turned.

He never expected defenses in the train and the villa.

The Red Queen released anesthetic gas.

No one escaped.

When Umbrella learned of it, the Hive was abandoned.

James and his team were sent to shut down the Red Queen.

Once shut down, containment would fail.

Zombies and Lickers would escape.

Raccoon City would become the test site.

Only Morin knew that.

"Who's this?" James asked.

"Matthew Addison. No matching records," Chad said, holding the badge.

"I just transferred!" Matt shouted.

"They probably haven't updated the system!"

"Possible," Chad said.

"Local departments are understaffed."

"Should we just end him?" Rain asked, gun pressed to Matt's head.

"...Mr. Morin?" James asked.

"No need," Morin replied as he exited the bathroom.

"Bring him with us. I also found someone."

He stepped aside.

Alice stood there, wrapped in a bathrobe.

"She's Alice. She has amnesia."

"There should be one more," James said.

"Spence Parks."

"No one else here," Judy reported.

"He's gone."

"The Red Queen knows we're here," Chad said, plugging into a wall port.

"This is the highest access I can get."

Deep underground, in the Hive's control room, the Red Queen observed.

Cameras covered everything.

The Hive. The passage. The villa.

[Nine individuals detected.]

[Six Umbrella assault personnel.]

[One illegal organization member.]

[One backup passage security personnel.]

[One retired ten-year veteran.]

[Threat level: extreme.]

[Sending Resident Evil data to headquarters... no response.]

[Attempting external warning... disabled.]

[Attempting contact with Hive entrants... failed.]

[Executing optimal plan.]

[Contain all personnel.]

"Get ready to enter the Hive," Morin said.

His gaze paused on Alice.

"Put on proper clothes. I'll explain on the way."

The group prepared, opened the hidden passage, and descended to the basement.

The train waited below.

"The power's off," Judy said.

"Two hours, forty-eight minutes, fifty-three seconds," Chad reported.

"Fix it," James ordered.

"I'll handle it," Rain said.

She bit down on her flashlight and jumped onto the tracks.

A loose cable.

An easy fix.

Then she heard something.

"...," Rain frowned and aimed the light.

A torn section of wire mesh.

Something had forced its way through.

Before she could think further-

"Hey!"

Judy leaned down.

"Did I scare you?"

Rain rolled her eyes.

She reconnected the cable.

Sparks flew.

Judy recoiled.

Rain climbed back up.

"There's a hole in the mesh," she said.

"Something small forced through it."

She remembered Morin's words.

"It wasn't human. Too strong for a rat-but not by much."

"An infected rat," Morin said.

"The virus could've spread through the drainage system."

He frowned slightly.

"We need to hurry. Once we have evidence, my organization can authorize a full operation."

"Your organization?" Matt asked.

"Virus?" Alice echoed.

"T-virus," Morin said, repeating his explanation.

"In short, we expose Umbrella or this happens again somewhere else."

"My God..."

As he spoke, Alice's memories snapped into place.

Almost all of them.

And then another thought hit her.

She didn't know Morin.

So why had he been so calm watching her change?

Her eyes widened.

"As for you," Morin said to Matt, unaware.

"I know what you're doing. You're not a cop, but our goals align."

"Let's move."

They boarded the train.

It lurched forward, sparks trailing behind.

Inside the torn mesh, bloodied rats chased the sound.

They failed.

They scattered.

Some fell into the sewers.

Blood mixed with water.

Others attacked uninfected rats.

The virus spread through uncontrolled channels.

All of them led to one place.

Raccoon City.
