Chapter 200 - Chapter 5: The Skill That Wasn't Supposed to Work Like This

On the train, Rain found a door that wouldn't open.

She tried for a long time, but it was no use.

Although she was a battle-hardened mercenary, her physical strength was still limited. She couldn't force it open.

"There's a person behind the door, unconscious," Morin said.

"It should be the missing Spence." X-ray vision. That was all.

It was normal.

He hadn't even started flying yet.

The others had already gotten used to this.

No. They thought.

These could have been clues he already knew in advance, but how did Morin know this? Hidden marks? Subtle details? Everyone's thoughts started drifting.

Morin's previous actions had been so all-knowing and all-powerful that, subconsciously, they had begun to accept one thing.

It was normal for Morin to know everything.

"I'll do it," Judy said as she walked up to the door.

She pulled hard and forced it open.

Even with Morin's warning, they were still startled when Spence suddenly fell out.

"..."

Alice recognized him the moment she saw his face.

More memories surfaced.

She remembered she had planned to steal the T-virus, but...

Did Spence do it first? Then why was the virus broken?

While thinking, she quietly removed the ring engraved with Property of the Umbrella Corporation and hid it.

The Umbrella Corporation was really cheap.

They even engraved their logo on the rings of security personnel, as if they were afraid no one would recognize them.

"Don't move. Don't move!"

The medic, who had been little more than background until now, finally stepped forward.

She woke Spence, checked his pupils with a flashlight, and went through standard rescue procedures.

Spence also had amnesia.

"But why is he here?" Rain asked, turning to Morin. "If he's security, why was he unconscious on the train?"

Morin didn't answer directly.

He preferred Spence to receive what he deserved in the Hive.

Although everything would be overturned in the sixth movie-Alice being a clone, everything being an Umbrella conspiracy-Morin didn't care right now.

After his arrival, the plot wouldn't reach that point.

The first movie would be the beginning.

And the end.

"I'm not an all-knowing encyclopedia," Morin said.

"Take him with us. You'll find out later. The Red Queen controls the entire Hive. She definitely knows what happened."

Soon, the train arrived at the Hive's backup entrance.

"Do we just go in?" James asked.

By now, he mostly believed Morin. The remaining doubt only existed because he hadn't seen proof with his own eyes.

He was worried something would rush out the moment the door opened.

"Even if something does, it's fine," Morin said. "This is the backup entrance. Not many people have clearance to reach it."

As he finished speaking, his gaze locked onto a camera on the wall.

The Red Queen had already detected them.

The camera activated.

When the Hive entered biohazard lockdown, the Red Queen's measures were extreme.

She had to ensure that every infected person remained inside.

All doors locked. Elevators stopped. Main entrances sealed.

Everything shut down.

Power conservation became mandatory.

Even with its own power supply, no one could guarantee how long it would last without maintenance.

Zombies could stay active for months without food or water. In extreme hunger, they could even consume other zombies.

Add in possible mutations and the need to freeze Lickers, and resource management became critical.

Every unit mattered.

The countdown Chad checked earlier showed the time remaining before the backup passage would also be sealed.

Two hours and forty-eight minutes.

Nearly three hours.

Including the accident, it totaled eight hours.

That was the evacuation window for Hive personnel.

The Red Queen couldn't override it. The command priority was higher than hers.

Otherwise, the assault team would never have been able to enter through the backup passage.

Everything should have been completely sealed.

Unless they had the highest clearance from Umbrella.

Morin stared at the camera's glowing red light.

If only he could control the Red Queen.

She could communicate with the assault team.

Anywhere there was a camera, there was also a microphone.

An integrated system.

Yet she couldn't warn them.

She couldn't stop them from opening Pandora's box.

Because that limitation was written into her programming.

This was Umbrella's conspiracy.

An experiment.

Alice. The assault team. All clones.

A staged performance to test the T-virus and prepare for the apocalypse.

The Hive and Raccoon City were chosen as the starting point.

But now, there was one more variable.

Morin.

His arrival would change this so-called "cleansing."

A plan meant to end the world.

If a lunatic wanted to destroy the world, and had the ability to do it, then killing that lunatic...

Wouldn't that be true cleansing?

As for communicating with the Red Queen-

Morin just wanted to make things more interesting.

She controlled every zombie.

She knew all their locations.

They were all locked down.

If he could talk to her, they could coordinate.

Prove he could eliminate the virus.

Clear rooms one by one.

Like a game.

Except his side would be invincible.

An invincible run.

Unfortunately, it was just a thought.

Even with high-level hacking skills, you couldn't crack an AI without proper equipment.

This wasn't a movie.

You couldn't just grab a tablet and type.

Unless he was remotely controlling a supercomputer, it was impossible.

A clever cook still needs ingredients.

Soon, Judy used a high-temperature jet cutter to destroy the door.

The darkness beyond felt endless.

After Chad found the power facilities and restored power manually, light finally flooded the area.

Everyone except Morin let out a breath.

Darkness represented the unknown.

And the unknown bred fear.

If you were all-knowing and all-powerful, fear didn't exist.

Morin wasn't there yet.

But for the current Hive, he was close enough.

Seeing in the dark was basic.

What was wrong with a boss having full X-ray and night vision?

"Let's move," James said. "Straight to the Red Queen's main computer. Be careful. Don't let anything get close."

"Shoot the head," Morin added.

He didn't finish the sentence.

There would be no danger on this path.

The Red Queen still had everything locked down.

And even if something did appear-

Morin checked the playing cards stored in his space.

About a thousand.

He had once thought it would be interesting to solve problems with playing cards.

So he stocked up.

A weapon's power wasn't defined by its material.

Kinetic energy mattered.

As long as it moved fast enough, even something light could be deadly.

That reminded Morin of a joke.

Academics discussing whether a drop of water falling from high altitude could kill someone.

Someone asked timidly, "Have you never seen rain?"

He was kicked out.

The joke mocked academics for being out of touch.

But honestly, he deserved it.

Free fall was an idealized model. No air resistance. Only gravity.

Rain wasn't the same thing.

Anyone who couldn't tell the difference should be kicked out.

As for whether a water droplet could kill someone-

"High altitude" was too vague.

You needed numbers.

Studying didn't make you smart.

But it could keep you from being ignorant.

Ahem.

Back on track.

In Morin's hands, a playing card was no different from a bullet.

Stronger, even.

With training, people could cut fruit, pierce objects, even open bottles.

The team moved down the stairs.

The first office area was flooded.

"This is the fire suppression system," Chad said. "Looks like the Red Queen used all the foam and water."

"That was the only way to kill the infected," Morin said.

"But where are the bodies-ahhh!"

Rain screamed as something moved in her peripheral vision.

She jumped back, weapon raised.

A woman in a white lab coat floated toward them.

Eyes closed.

Face calm.

No expression of drowning.

"She... doesn't look like a zombie?" Rain asked after a long pause.

"Would a drowned person look like that?" Morin replied. "She's infected. Even after death, her muscles can still return to a peaceful state."

"Then why isn't she moving?" James asked, gun trained on her head.

"Maybe it's not time yet," Morin said. "But don't worry. I have a way."

"What way?"

"It's simple."

Morin cleared his throat and spoke to the beautiful woman who had once haunted his childhood.

"I, Morin, am not cheating!"

He had to test all his skills eventually.

This was the perfect chance.

His voice passed through glass.

Through water.

Into her ears.

Her eardrums vibrated.

Signals reached her brain.

Weak bioelectricity still flickered.

She was alive.

The trigger condition was met.

Hear the voice.

Be alive.

The zombie didn't understand.

Maybe the young man didn't want her to scare them.

Maybe he was being unsportsmanlike.

Reluctantly, she opened her eyes.

And executed a perfect salute.

The jump-scare was gone.

What remained was-

Absurd.

Hilarious.

At least to Morin.

To everyone else, their hearts stopped.

A corpse had moved.

Eyes opened.

Silence fell.

Because the assault team and Alice were also standing at attention.

They had heard Morin's words too.

The skill didn't discriminate.

Allies included.

Enemies included.

"H-holy crap," Morin cursed.
