Chapter 177 - Chapter 26: The Message

Ignoring Kokushibo's attack, the Dragon of Greed extended a claw.

With a wet tearing sound, the sharp claw pierced straight through Kokushibo's body.

The dragon was massive.

One claw was larger than Kokushibo's entire frame.

Even a single finger was thicker than his thigh.

After piercing through him, the dragon applied slight pressure.

Half of Kokushibo's body shattered instantly.

But he wasn't dead.

Physical attacks couldn't kill a demon.

Let alone Upper Rank One.

That wasn't a problem.

Before Kokushibo could fully regenerate, the Dragon of Greed opened its mouth and inhaled.

His shattered body and flesh were sucked in.

Life force extracted.

Gone completely.

Deader than dead.

In the blink of an eye, two Upper Ranks were erased.

Upper Rank Five.

Upper Rank One.

The remaining Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, panicked and fled.

Emiya didn't let him.

The Dragon of Greed moved like lightning, devouring several of Hantengu's clones in succession.

Even the cowardly main body failed to escape.

Exposed by Observation Haki.

Swallowed whole.

In the end, only one demon remained.

Upper Rank Two.

Doma.

Despite witnessing the destruction of the other Upper Ranks, Doma showed no fear.

He smiled.

Not because he was brave.

Because he had no emotions.

Even as a human, Doma never understood emotions.

No joy.

No sorrow.

No love.

No hatred.

From childhood, he had been treated as a vessel for adults to pour their suffering into.

That twisted him.

He came to believe death was salvation.

After becoming a demon, he consumed young women with pleasure, calling it mercy.

Claiming they would live forever within him.

Because he lacked emotions, he didn't fear death.

And so he could smile.

But it was empty.

A fake expression.

Someone without joy could never truly smile.

When the Dragon of Greed flew toward him, Doma knew escape was impossible.

So he stopped trying.

Blood Demon Art.

Frozen Lotus Bodhisattva.

An ice statue rose from the ground.

Over ten meters tall.

A bodhisattva seated with hands clasped.

Its presence alone was overwhelming.

Unfortunately, its opponent was the Dragon of Greed.

The dragon struck.

One claw crushed the statue's head.

Ice exploded outward.

Shards scattered in every direction.

"Oh dear," Doma said softly.

"It seems I'm going to die."

His smile widened.

But his eyes were cold.

Empty.

"Come back."

Emiya gave the order.

The Dragon of Greed halted.

Then returned to Emiya's side and faded away.

Doma tilted his head.

"You're not killing me?"

"I was going to," Emiya said calmly.

"But someone else wants you dead more than I do."

"So I'll leave you for her."

"At the same time, you'll deliver a message."

"To Muzan Kibutsuji."

Doma asked, "What message?"

"If he wants the Blue Spider Lily," Emiya said slowly,

"he'll trade it for the doctor's old notes."

"I'll be here tomorrow."

He still hadn't given up on that medicine.

The one that granted eternal life.

He didn't have eternity yet.

Of course he wanted it.

Without waiting for a reply, Emiya used Nen to seize Doma.

Then hurled him away.

Whoosh.

Doma vanished like a meteor.

Whether he shattered on landing didn't matter.

A demon wouldn't die from that.

After that, Emiya returned to the warehouse.

He rescued Kyojuro Rengoku.

And Tengen Uzui.

The Dragon of Greed transferred part of its absorbed life force into them.

Cells divided.

Wounds closed.

Healing visible to the naked eye.

In minutes, both were standing.

Alive.

The cost was negligible.

Less than a tenth of a normal demon's life force.

"Thank you, Lord Emiya!" Rengoku shouted.

Tengen asked, "Those demons outside were flashily dealt with by you, right?"

Emiya nodded.

"Upper Rank One, Four, and Five are dead."

"Upper Rank Two escaped."

"He's Shinobu Kocho's enemy."

"So I left him."

Rengoku frowned.

"Flower Hashira was killed by him."

"In my view, killing him immediately would've been best."

"I believe the Insect Hashira would understand."

Emiya rolled his eyes.

"You're telling me too late."

"He's already gone."

"Practice Nen."

"When you've mastered it, kill him then."

Although Nen cultivation had been passed down, none had mastered it yet.

Emiya hadn't forced their pores open.

They had no aura control.

Forcing it would drain their life force.

And kill them.

So progress had to be gradual.

That was why they'd been captured.

If they had Nen, four Upper Ranks wouldn't have mattered.

Rengoku spoke firmly.

"I will master Nen as quickly as possible."

"And eradicate demons."

"Good," Emiya said.

"What about the others?"

Rengoku's expression dimmed.

"They're dead."

"We survived because they wanted hostages."

"They underestimated you."

Emiya paused.

"Oh."

He didn't know what to say.

He had no personal ties to them.

In the end, he said, "My condolences."

Rengoku accepted it calmly.

Demon slaying meant death.

Everyone knew that.

And several Upper Ranks had already paid the price.

That was enough.

"Let's go," Emiya said.

He led them back to headquarters.

Emiya returned to his room to digest the life force.

Rengoku and Tengen reported to Ubuyashiki.

After listening, Ubuyashiki trembled with excitement.

"So... only Upper Rank Two remains?"

Tengen nodded.

"Yes."

"This is wonderful," Ubuyashiki said softly.

In days, the Upper Ranks were nearly wiped out.

Lower Ranks were already insignificant.

"This is an unprecedented victory."

"Muzan's forces are crippled."

"In our generation, the curse will be broken."

Rengoku responded loudly, "Yes, Master!"

"With his forces weakened," Ubuyashiki continued, "Muzan may retreat."

"We may gain a brief peace."

"But do not relax."

"Master Nen."

"Once you do, Upper Ranks will fall."

"Then we'll gather everything we have."

"And annihilate Muzan Kibutsuji."

"Yes, Master," they answered together.

-

Inside the Infinity Castle.

Muzan Kibutsuji's face was pale.

Four Upper Ranks.

Defeated.

Only one remained.

Rage boiled inside him.

He seized Doma by the neck.

Nearly crushed it.

"I thought the Lower Ranks were useless," Muzan hissed. "But even you?"

"What use are you now?"

Doma struggled.

Breathing strained.

But he felt no fear.

"The Blue Spider Lily."

Muzan froze.

His grip loosened.

He read Doma's mind instantly.

Saw everything.

The message.

In that instant, Muzan was shaken.

For a thousand years, no trace.

And now- A man who knew its whereabouts.

His first thought was simple.

A trap.

A lure.

A baited desire.

And a blade waiting to fall.
