Chapter 178 - Chapter 27: Crucial Data

Muzan Kibutsuji hesitated.

Reason told him this was a trap.

But the moment he heard the words Blue Spider Lily, his heart stirred uncontrollably.

Ever since becoming a demon, he had searched for it.

A full thousand years.

In the early decades- even the first few centuries- he could endure it.

But now?

Nearly a millennium without sunlight.

So long that he had forgotten what the sun felt like on his skin.

That was why, even knowing it could be a trap, he was tempted.

This was an opportunity.

If he missed it, who knew how many more years he would have to wait before finding the Blue Spider Lily, overcoming the sun, and walking freely beneath daylight again?

For that chance, he was willing to gamble.

Of course, he would never expose himself.

Not even the slightest risk was acceptable.

-

The next evening, after dinner, Emiya returned to his room.

He opened a portal and went back to the warehouse where the battle had taken place the day before.

The warehouse was empty.

He spread his Observation Haki.

Nothing.

Not a single human.

Not a single demon.

Did he really not come?

Emiya frowned slightly.

Muzan Kibutsuji was far more patient than he expected.

A thousand years of searching.

A clear clue placed right in front of him.

And he could still hold back?

Emiya sighed inwardly.

Fine. I'll wait an hour.

If nothing happened, he would leave.

He conjured a stool, sat down, pulled out a manga, and started reading.

Half an hour later-

A familiar aura entered his perception.

Emiya smiled.

He closed the manga and stood.

A few minutes later, Doma strolled into view.

Upper Rank Two.

The one Emiya had let go yesterday.

"Where's Muzan Kibutsuji?" Emiya asked directly.

Doma wore his usual fake smile.

"Lord Muzan doesn't trust humans. So he sent me instead."

He reached into his clothes and pulled out a notebook.

"But I brought this."

Emiya narrowed his eyes.

"The doctor's notes?"

Doma nodded.

"Once you tell me the location of the Blue Spider Lily, this notebook is yours."

"But don't try to take it by force."

"I'll destroy it the instant before you make a move."

Emiya clicked his tongue.

"How about this?"

"You give me the notes first."

"I tell you the location."

"That won't work," Doma said, shaking his head. "You go first."

Emiya sighed.

"So neither of us trusts the other."

"Humans and demons are mortal enemies," Doma replied calmly. "Trust was never an option."

Emiya looked at him.

"Then can you guarantee the contents haven't been altered?"

Doma shook his head.

"I can't. Lord Muzan handed it to me himself and ordered me not to read it."

Emiya thought for a moment.

"Then I'll give you half the information."

"Once I verify the notebook, I'll give you the rest."

"If it's fake, I'll kill you."

Doma hesitated.

Then a voice echoed in his mind.

Agree.

Muzan Kibutsuji's voice.

Doma nodded.

"Alright."

Emiya spoke calmly.

"The reason Muzan Kibutsuji has searched for the Blue Spider Lily for a thousand years without success is very simple."

"The Blue Spider Lily only blooms during the day."

Silence.

Doma froze.

Emiya burst out laughing.

If Muzan heard this, he would probably explode from rage.

A thousand-year obsession.

A thousand years of searching.

And the flower only bloomed during daylight- when demons couldn't move.

The irony was almost cruel.

Of course, Muzan could have humans search for it.

But the flower bloomed only during a very specific, extremely short window each year.

Ordinary people wouldn't find it.

And even if Muzan succeeded-

By then, the Demon Slayer Corps would have mastered Nen.

They would swarm him.

A Muzan who no longer feared the sun would still be manageable.

If all else failed, Emiya could step in himself.

Drain his life force.

And with sunlight no longer a weakness, Muzan's vitality would be even more terrifying.

A walking super tonic.

After laughing, Emiya extended his hand.

"If you refuse, I kill you and enter the Infinity Castle myself."

He wasn't bluffing.

He had spatial abilities.

Muzan's voice rang out again.

Give it to him.

Doma didn't hesitate.

He tossed the notebook over.

Emiya caught it and flipped through the pages.

Medicinal formulas.

Equations.

His head hurt just looking at them.

An ordinary person wouldn't understand any of this.

That was fine.

He had someone who could.

Doma asked, "Now can you tell me the rest?"

Emiya tapped the notebook.

"I need to verify it first."

"If it's real, I'll tell you."

"If not, I'll kill you."

He turned and left.

In truth, Emiya didn't know the exact location of the Blue Spider Lily.

Only that it bloomed during the day.

Where it grew.

When exactly it bloomed.

Those details were vague even in the original story.

The Blue Spider Lily appeared only at the very end.

Barely mentioned.

He returned to the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters and slept.

The next morning, during breakfast, Emiya handed the notebook to Ubuyashiki.

"Verify this."

Ubuyashiki took it.

His eyes widened.

"Lord Emiya, this is..."

"You can read it?" Emiya asked.

Ubuyashiki nodded.

"I understand some of it."

Long illness makes a doctor.

The Ubuyashiki family was frail by nature, especially the men.

He had studied medicine since childhood.

Not an expert.

But enough to recognize value.

Emiya didn't hide anything.

"This is what Muzan Kibutsuji used a thousand years ago to turn himself into the progenitor of demons."

Ubuyashiki was stunned.

"You met Muzan Kibutsuji?"

"No," Emiya said lightly. "He's a coward. He sent Doma and hid."

"He's probably afraid I'll kill him."

Ubuyashiki didn't fully understand the word coward, but he understood the meaning.

"That man... is extremely cautious."

"Have your people check it thoroughly," Emiya said.

The Ubuyashiki family had dedicated physicians.

Verification wasn't an issue.

The next day, Ubuyashiki returned.

"Several crucial sections are missing."

Emiya smiled.

"I expected that."

"Muzan would never hand over the complete version."

Ubuyashiki hesitated.

"How did you obtain this notebook, my lord?"

"Information about the Blue Spider Lily."

Ubuyashiki's expression changed.

"Don't worry," Emiya said calmly. "It blooms during the day, for a very short period each year."

"It won't be easy for him."

Ubuyashiki was speechless.

After a long pause, he smiled bitterly.

"The key ingredient to overcoming the sun... blooms during daylight."

"No wonder."

No wonder Muzan had failed for a thousand years.

There was bitterness.

And a hint of satisfaction.

Emiya asked, "Can your people reconstruct the missing data?"

Ubuyashiki shook his head.

"The missing sections are too critical."

"Without them, the medicine can't be completed."

Emiya exhaled slowly.

"Then forget it."

There were other paths to immortality.

Other worlds.

Other methods.

Still-

Giving up entirely felt wasteful.

Emiya thought for a moment.

"Have everyone learn Nen first."

"Once you've mastered it, find Muzan Kibutsuji."

"When you do, interrogate the missing data out of him."

"That won't be difficult."

Ubuyashiki nodded.

"We will not fail you."

"Good," Emiya said. "I believe you."

In the original future, the Demon Slayer Corps killed Muzan Kibutsuji.

Now?

Five Upper Ranks were already gone.

The Hashira would master Nen.

Failure no longer made sense.

Emiya was very optimistic.

The end was only a matter of time.
