The exchange between the manager and Touka Kirishima didn't escape Emiya.
He acted as if he hadn't noticed anything.
"My apologies," he said calmly. "I just thought the girl looked familiar. I caused some trouble."
The manager looked at him for a moment, then nodded.
"I see. Please don't be so reckless next time."
"I won't," Emiya replied casually.
He sat down and took a sip of coffee.
The taste was decent.
Acceptable.
The fact that Anteiku had stayed open for so many years and had a steady group of regulars already proved its quality.
But Emiya's palate had long been spoiled by Erina Nakiri and the others.
Most ordinary drinks no longer satisfied him.
So calling Anteiku's coffee "acceptable" was already high praise.
After finishing the latte, Emiya stood.
"Manager, the coffee was alright. I didn't bring cash today, so let this serve as payment."
He placed a gold ring on the table, turned around, and walked away.
The manager quickly spoke up when he saw it.
"That's far too valuable, sir."
"The extra is my apology for disturbing the young lady," Emiya said without turning back.
He clapped his hands once and left Anteiku.
Standing outside, he glanced back at the café, smiled faintly, and melted into the crowd.
Emiya didn't have many plans for this world.
Mainly because he hadn't watched all of Tokyo Ghoul.
He had only seen up to the part where Kaneki Ken was captured by Aogiri Tree and tortured by Jason, his hair turning white overnight.
The famous "What's 1000 minus 7?" scene.
He hadn't followed the rest in detail, only skimmed spoilers.
Kaneki becoming Haise Sasaki.
Becoming the so-called One-Eyed King.
Marrying Touka Kirishima.
Having a daughter.
From that, Emiya knew one thing.
The road was tragic.
But the ending wasn't bad.
This time, he didn't intend to change anything.
Or rather-
He wasn't interested in changing anything.
Still, he had been a little curious about Anteiku.
More precisely, about the coffee.
Now that he had tasted it, that curiosity was gone.
He had no attachment to this world.
Leaving immediately wouldn't matter.
But then-
A memory surfaced.
Hinami Fueguchi.
The little girl.
Her entire family were ghouls.
Her father was a doctor.
Her mother an ordinary housewife.
Weak ghouls.
Later, because of Aogiri Tree's interference, Hinami and her mother hid in the 20th Ward and stayed at Anteiku.
At the same time, the weapon Jason dropped after fighting Rize was discovered by the investigator Kureo Mado.
Following that lead, Mado found Hinami's father.
Killed him.
Turned him into a weapon.
Later, Hinami's mother, Ryouko Fueguchi, was also killed by Mado.
The girl became an orphan overnight.
Emiya remembered wanting to kill Kureo Mado when he watched it.
It was infuriating.
But after calming down, he realized something.
Kureo Mado hadn't really done anything wrong.
He was human.
Ghouls were creatures that fed on humans.
His wife had died at the hands of a ghoul.
Hatred was inevitable.
From a human perspective, he wasn't wrong at all.
If Emiya's wife had been brutally murdered by ghouls, and he had the power, he would likely wipe them out without hesitation.
Men, women, children.
This was the chain of hatred.
Humans hated ghouls for eating people and wanted them exterminated.
Ghouls ate humans to survive and fought back when attacked.
In the end, it was nothing more than a struggle for survival.
And in such a struggle, there was no good or evil.
Still-
Seeing a kind little girl lose everything overnight because of what she was made Emiya feel a trace of pity.
He should find her.
Turn her back into a human.
He couldn't do it himself.
But Miach probably could.
Then again, constantly troubling Miach felt excessive.
At that moment, someone else came to mind.
No-
Not Haruhi Suzumiya.
Nagato.
The alien.
With her level of technology, restoring a ghoul to a human body shouldn't be difficult.
Emiya remembered spoilers suggesting that ghouls likely originated from humans.
Experimental modification.
If that was the case, restoration was theoretically possible.
The real problem was simple.
Where was Hinami Fueguchi right now?
He had no idea what point in the timeline this was.
Whoosh.
A faint whistle reached his ears.
Emiya raised his eyebrows.
Observation Haki caught something interesting.
He changed direction.
Soon, he arrived at an abandoned building.
A figure wearing a rabbit mask appeared in front of him.
With her kagune released, she attacked without hesitation.
Emiya recognized her immediately.
There was only one ghoul like that.
Touka Kirishima.
He didn't dodge.
He caught her punch, turned, and threw her over his shoulder.
Bang.
Her body slammed into the ground.
Just from the sound, it hurt.
Touka tried to rise, enduring the pain.
In the next instant, Emiya pinned her down completely.
Her mask fell off.
A young face was revealed.
"You're persistent, Touka Kirishima."
Touka hadn't expected to lose in one move.
She was an S-rated ghoul.
"Who are you?" she demanded.
Even defeated, she hadn't lost her fighting spirit.
Then again, she'd always been stubborn.
Emiya tilted his head.
"Does it matter?"
Touka glared at him in silence.
Emiya sighed and released her.
She stood, rubbing her shoulder.
She didn't attack again.
After that exchange, she knew she couldn't win.
Not in strength.
Not in technique.
She wasn't stupid.
Still, that made things worse.
Emiya was clearly human.
The human aura on him was unmistakable.
But what kind of human fought like this?
Investigators could only fight ghouls with quinques.
Without them, humans were helpless.
This man overturned that rule.
"You showed up at a good time," Emiya said. "I'm looking for a girl named Hinami Fueguchi. You know where she is."
"What do you want with Hinami?" Touka asked warily.
"To turn her into a human."
Touka stared at him.
"...Are you mocking me?"
"I knew it," Emiya muttered. "No one believes the truth anymore."
He shook his head.
"Forget it. If not Hinami, you'll do. Come with me."
"What?"
Touka didn't even have time to react.
Emiya snapped his fingers.
The world shifted.
The next moment, they stood inside a girl's bedroom.
Touka's eyes widened.
They had been in an abandoned building.
Now this?
"She's not here," Emiya said, glancing around. "Must be at school."
He opened the window and jumped out.
Touka hesitated.
Confusion.
Suspicion.
Shock.
But then she remembered what he said.
Turning Hinami into a human.
At first, she thought it was a joke.
Now-
She wasn't so sure.
Moving instantaneously like this wasn't something an ordinary person could do.
Was it really possible?
Her reason screamed no.
But her body followed.
She jumped out the window and landed lightly, chasing after him.
This man was far too mysterious.
She needed answers.
After walking for a while, she finally asked, "Where are you taking me?"
"To a school," Emiya replied calmly.
"To find an alien."
