Mikumo Kushinada did not answer Chin Gentsai's question.

Instead, she moved.

Her body floated forward with unnatural lightness, as if gravity had momentarily forgotten her existence. In the blink of an eye, she appeared in front of Chin Gentsai and reached out, her fingers aimed straight for his throat.

Chin Gentsai's expression changed instantly.

The moment Mikumo moved, he abandoned all thoughts of testing her.

His feet staggered as if he were about to fall, his posture unstable and erratic-but at the very last moment, he slipped past her grasp with deceptive ease.

"Drunken Fist, is it?" Mikumo said calmly.

She wasn't surprised.

She had already reviewed Chin Gentsai's information. She knew his specialty well-and she also knew how troublesome Drunken Fist could be.

Her arm trembled slightly.

Then, out of thin air, an arm formed entirely of condensed Ki, reaching toward Chin Gentsai with terrifying precision.

Chin's heart skipped a beat.

His steps became even more unsteady, his body swaying left and right, yet no matter how close he came to falling, he never did. Each movement was just enough to slip through the gaps in Mikumo's attacks.

But Chin wasn't only dodging.

In a sudden blur, he vanished and reappeared behind Mikumo, unleashing a rapid series of kicks.

However-

Mikumo didn't move at all.

The air in front of her solidified.

Two invisible walls formed instantly, like transparent shields. Chin's feet slammed into them as if striking steel.

"Gah!"

Chin cried out and staggered backward.

Though his movements looked slow, his speed was astonishing-so fast that afterimages trailed behind him. To the audience, it appeared as if several Chins existed at once.

The crowd erupted in cheers.

Mikumo stepped forward.

Her movement resembled teleportation, appearing abruptly before Chin. She waved her sleeve casually.

The air tore apart.

The surrounding atmosphere twisted violently, spinning like a vortex under her control. Chin was caught instantly, lifted and spun several times before being flung downward.

Bang!

He hit the ground hard-landing in a perfect split.

Emiya couldn't help but praise, "As expected of the Drunken Fist grandmaster. That dodge was beautiful."

It looked like Chin had been overwhelmed, but in reality, he had redirected Mikumo's force through his own unstable motion, dispersing the damage. This level of control was something only a true master could achieve.

Mikumo's eyes flickered.

She clapped her hands softly.

The air vibrated.

Invisible shockwaves rippled outward.

Chin rolled away just in time.

Boom!

The invisible pressure slammed into the ring, shaking the entire stage.

Mikumo Kushinada practiced Kushinada-style Jujutsu-a martial art that emphasized technique over brute force, using an opponent's strength against them.

But after learning Nen, she had elevated it to a terrifying realm.

She wasn't just manipulating bodies anymore.

She was manipulating air itself.

Even without direct contact, she could attack freely-as long as her opponent existed within an atmosphere.

It wasn't true psychic power.

But it was close enough to make no difference.

Chin Gentsai realized this as well.

He dared not approach recklessly-but without closing the distance, how could he win?

The answer was simple.

Chin stepped back, pulled the wine gourd from his waist, took a deep drink, and activated the Ki within his body.

Then he spat.

What should have been wine erupted as raging flames.

A roaring fire dragon surged forward, swallowing Mikumo whole.

Mikumo merely flicked her fingers.

The air split.

A thin blade of compressed atmosphere cleaved the flames cleanly in two, letting them rush past her harmlessly.

Seeing this, Chin hurled his wine gourd.

It screamed through the air like a cannonball, aimed straight at her head.

Mikumo raised her hand and caught it effortlessly.

Then she twisted her wrist and threw it back.

At the same time, she clenched her fingers.

The surrounding air compressed violently, binding Chin from all directions. His body locked in place, unable to move even a finger.

The returning wine gourd flew straight toward his skull.

At the critical moment-

Chin roared.

His Ki exploded outward, blasting the air restraints apart. He bent backward sharply, narrowly avoiding the gourd, then yanked the rope attached to it, pulling it safely back into his grasp.

Mikumo didn't move.

She was about to continue-

When Chin suddenly shouted, "Stop! I give up!"

The arena fell silent.

Chin exhaled slowly.

He had understood by now.

Mikumo's strength was not inferior to his own.

Neither of them had gone all out-but if they did, the result would be a catastrophic battle with no guarantee of victory.

And frankly...

It wasn't worth it.

He was nearly ninety years old. He no longer cared about proving himself. He had entered this tournament to train his disciples, not to gamble his life.

Winning or losing meant little.

Wine and rest mattered more.

So Chin chose to surrender.

Athena Asamiya and Sie Kensou protested loudly, and the audience erupted into boos-but Chin didn't care.

He never had.

He nodded respectfully to Mikumo, lifted his gourd, and staggered off the stage.

Mikumo shook her head slightly and muttered, "What a slippery young man."

Chin nearly tripped down the stairs.

Calling him young...

Just what kind of monster was this woman?

With Chin Gentsai's surrender, the Psycho Soldiers Team was eliminated.

The Nen Users Team advanced.

As the first day concluded, the six winning teams were invited back onto the stage:

Servants Team (Emiya)

Ryozanpaku Team (Hayato Fūrinji)

Loki Team (Finn)

New Women Fighters Team (King)

Nen Users Team

Lone Wolves Team (bye)

Four of the six teams were from other worlds.

Internal battles were inevitable.

The host then announced the second-round matchups.

The screen lit up.

Match One:

Loki Team vs. Ryozanpaku Team

Emiya wasn't surprised.

Match Two:

Nen Users Team vs. New Women Fighters Team

This caught his attention.

His gaze shifted-to Terry Bogard.

Match Three:

Servants Team vs. Lone Wolves Team

Terry met Emiya's eyes.

There was no fear.

Only burning fighting spirit.

Emiya didn't care.

Whether Terry could even get past Cú Chulainn and Heracles was another question entirely.

To challenge demigods, one needed strength on the level of Orochi's Eight Heavenly Kings.

The fighters of '96 simply weren't there yet.

But growth was accelerating.

And so were they.

With multiple worlds behind them-

By '97...

Even Shizuka Hiratsuka alone might be enough to run the entire tournament.

And that possibility felt entirely real.
