Davin's eyes burned with fury as he tracked Silas through the shadows. In a blur of motion, he confronted him. "You touch her again, and I swear…" His voice dropped to a deadly calm. Without hesitation, Davin unleashed his power, sending Silas screaming into the vampire world, disappearing from sight.
Turning, Davin raced to Elise. She was trembling, her body still wracked with sobs, the fear from the warehouse fresh in her mind. He scooped her up effortlessly, holding her close as her tears soaked his shirt. "It's over… you're safe now," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her tear-streaked face.
By the time they reached home, Anastasia and Patricia were waiting, panic written all over their faces. Elise ran into their arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Anastasia, still shaking, buried her face in Davin's chest between sobs. "Why… why is it always you?" she asked, her voice trembling with fear and frustration.
Davin's expression hardened, his hand tightening protectively around Elise. "She's safe now," he said firmly. "Elise is fine. Silas… he's gone. Dead. I'll deal with the rest later."
The girls glanced at him, relief mixing with disbelief, while Elise clung to him, her own sobs softening as she finally allowed herself to feel the weight of being protected.
