Chapter 27 - 27: The Raid on Riverrun

Flames spewed by a giant dragon swept through the Lannister North Bank positions.

The fences, originally used to defend against cavalry charges, were no match for the powerful flames; in an instant, they were all reduced to charcoal.

Some archers hiding behind defensive fortifications were scorched by the dragon flames, emitting agonizing screams.

The Lannister soldiers behind them were terrified at this sight, but they quickly stopped being afraid.

Because the cavalry that followed immediately after covered their horses' eyes with blindfolds, then directly broke through the burnt fences, and with a single thrust of their long spears, ended the lives of those soldiers.

"Fire!"

"Stop them, spearmen! Form up quickly!"

The Lannister officers were still directing the battle, but they were quickly targeted by Robb.

Whoosh!

A shattered stone fragment suddenly appeared in Robb's hand, then shot out at an extremely fast speed, directly smashing the helmet of the officer who was still giving orders, the powerful impact directly made his mind reel, and he fainted on the ground.

Beast Stone: Quickly releases sharp stone fragments, can be used in succession. It is said that before the Golden Tree era, stones were the first weapons of beasts that gained wisdom.

This was one of the Beast Incantations; although its power was not comparable to the Lightning Spear and Dragon Incantations, it was quick to cast, with a nearly negligible wind-up, making it a very practical incantation.

When one officer fell, another immediately took over command.

"Quickly wake up those lazy pigs in the back, pick up your spears, don't..."

Before he could finish his sentence, a muffled sound came from above his head, and then he fell to the ground.

One after another, soon people realized that as long as someone dared to speak up and command, they would be the one to fall. For a time, all the noble officers became somewhat silent.

Robb glanced at the battlefield; the camp ahead had been directly broken through by him and his men, while the camp behind seemed to have just realized a night raid was happening and was waking up.

They had to charge through before they could react, and not let these people form a spear formation, otherwise his cavalry would not gain any advantage.

"Follow me!"

Robb roared, leading over four hundred cavalrymen, setting fires as they went, and charging into the still-unresponsive camp.

The further they went inside, the more war fortifications were built.

Those were all preparations for attacking Riverrun.

Robb directly conjured the head of a giant dragon, spewing flames whenever he saw siege structures, though each burst of flame was very brief, stopping as soon as he saw it catch fire.

Because releasing dragon flames continuously consumed mental power, Robb was not yet strong enough to sustain long-term use of such a powerful Dragon Incantation.

"Is that a dragon?!"

"Am I still sleeping? I think I saw a giant dragon's head spitting fire?!"

The Lannister soldiers who had just emerged from the camp thought they had woken up too quickly and were hallucinating.

If he wasn't sleeping, had he traveled back over three hundred years to the time when the Targaryen Family conquered the continent on the backs of dragons?

Before they could react, the cavalry charging with torches took their lives.

"Run!"

"Help, run for your lives!"

"Seven Gods above, save us!"

Seeing the scene before them, where did the other Lannister soldiers still have any will to fight?

Some of them hadn't even fully donned their armor before coming out to fight, only to witness a terrifying scene, leaving them with no will to fight whatsoever.

Robb burned down most of the siege equipment, and his mental power was also depleted, leaving him unable to cast incantations, only able to wait for his mental power to slowly recover.

So Robb drew two longswords from his back and began to engage in close combat with the Lannister defenders.

"Surrender or die!"

"Surrender or die!"

Robb galloped on horseback, followed closely by over two hundred Wolf Cavalry, cutting down any obstructing soldiers they encountered along the way, riding back and forth through the North Bank camp.

Shouting the slogan "Surrender or die!" to break the enemy's will to fight, the camp of several thousand people instantly fell into complete chaos, with fires erupting everywhere and people fleeing in all directions.

...

"Damn it, there's trouble on the North Bank!"

Earl Andros, an officer on the Lannister West Bank, saw flames soaring into the sky on the North Bank, continuous screams, and occasionally accompanied by strange beast roars, and his heart immediately sank.

Jaime had taken three thousand cavalry to battle and had been missing for several days; many returning cavalrymen said Jaime had been captured alive by Robb.

These nobles were already panicking because of this matter, and now seeing the North Bank under attack, they immediately lost their composure.

"Follow me to reinforce the North Bank; they don't have many people. If we hold the North Bank's defensive fortifications, we can win!"

Earl Andros immediately gathered his men and crossed the river with two thousand people.

In the dark night, the river was swift, and Andros regretted it halfway through, feeling he had been too reckless.

He then splashed river water on his face to clear his head.

Regardless of whether it was reckless or not, the North Bank had to be supported; otherwise, if the North Bank was breached, his and the East Bank's forces would be torn apart, and then it would be easy for the enemy to break through them.

"Kill!"

Creak, creak.

Whoosh!

Just then, on the walls of Riverrun, the previously quiet night suddenly became noisy.

Hundreds of torches lit up simultaneously, and the creaking trebuchets were already loaded.

Accompanied by the shouts of Riverrun's defenders, huge stones smashed into the Lannister army still crossing the river.

They fell into a trap!

Earl Andros's heart went cold.

But that wasn't the worst news, because he then heard a sky-shattering roar of battle.

"Follow me! Surround them on three sides, but don't surround them too tightly! Let them run, kill!"

"For the Young Wolf Lord!"

"For Ned!"

"For Riverrun!"

On the West Bank, Earl Jason Mallister, who had been ambushing for a long time, saw everything proceeding according to plan, and so he led his two thousand men and charged forward, launching a fierce assault on the Lannister army on the West Bank!

Creak, clang!

The western gate of Riverrun opened, and the drawbridge, which had been suspended for many days, finally lowered. The invigorated Riverlands army, led by Earl Leekwood, also charged out.

The two forces formed a pincer movement, encircling and annihilating the Lannister army on the West Bank, with shouts echoing everywhere!

It's over!

It's all over!

Earl Andros saw that the remaining troops on the West Bank were completely routed; countless soldiers dropped their weapons and surrendered before even fighting, and several of his own boats were smashed by trebuchet stones.

Fortunately, he wouldn't have to worry about these trivial matters much longer.

Because he saw a huge stone flying towards him.

His boat was about to capsize.
