Chapter 82 - Chapter 80 : The Withdrawn Xiao Yixian

"Enemy attack!"

The serene night at the Monster Beast Mountains' camp was shattered by a piercing roar.

Muli was about to lead his men to block Xiao Yixian and Xiao Jian when the chilling sound made him freeze.

Almost instantly, a chorus of howls echoed from the surrounding forest.

"Awwoo!"

Over twenty pairs of glowing green eyes reflected the firelight, watching the camp with predatory intent.

Muli's face went pale. He had sprinkled the camp with high-level monster deterrents, yet somehow a wolf pack had been drawn here.

"Wolfhead Mercenary Group, move out!"

Muli wasn't about to risk a futile battle. Earlier that day, he had noticed the unusual behavior of Xiao Jian and Xiao Yixian.

When the group had reached the campsite, he had already sent scouts to investigate, discovering the hidden cave.

At this point, the treasures in the cave had become far more important than guarding the herb-gathering team.

Thud!

Xiao Jian, holding Xiao Yixian securely in his arms, leapt from the cliff.

At the same time, he unleashed a Green Wind Whirlwind Fist, clearing the debris blocking the cave entrance. They landed safely.

Xiao Jian noticed her slight tremble in his arms.

"We're here."

He adjusted his hold, gently patting her back.

"Ah!"

Xiao Yixian blushed furiously, realizing she was clinging to him like a koala.

Under the cloak of night, however, they remained unseen.

As she tried to pull away and regain her composure, Xiao Jian caught her hand again.

A faint glimmer of firelight appeared in the darkness.

Xiao Yixian saw him holding a lit fire stick, the soft orange glow revealing his calm expression.

"Let's see what's inside," Xiao Jian said, smiling faintly. He gently held her hand and led her into the cave.

The cave was dark and chilly, the fire stick barely illuminating the space.

Xiao Jian felt fine, but Xiao Yixian, dressed in only a thin black outfit, shivered.

Yet, the warmth of his hand pulling her forward reminded her of the comforting embrace she had felt earlier… and immediately, she scolded herself mentally:

This shameless scoundrel—I'll poison him one day!

Xiao Jian continued scanning their surroundings. Feeling her icy hand in his, he glanced at her with a teasing smile.

"What are you doing?" she asked, instinctively covering her chest with her free hand, wary after his boldness earlier.

He shook his head with a helpless smile. "Aren't you cold?"

She was taken aback.....this shameless man had concern now?

"The mountains get cold at night. You're weak, you wouldn't survive without proper clothing."

With a small sigh, he draped a white cloak over her shoulders.

Xiao Yixian thought he had shown a spark of decency… but as he held her hand again and whispered gently, "Let's go," she simply nodded, choosing obedience over argument.

After a long walk, Xiao Jian slowed, finally stopping.

"We're here."

Before them stood a stone door, glowing faintly yellow.

Xiao Yixian stepped closer, frowning in thought. "This door… it seems to be rigged with an earth-element mechanism."

"Just a minor trick," Xiao Jian replied, kicking a small protrusion at the base of the door.

Click!

The mechanism activated, and the door slowly rose.

"You know mechanisms?" Xiao Yixian asked in surprise.

"Bored as a kid, I read some random books. A few were on mechanisms," he replied casually.

Light spilled from the opening, illuminating the cave interior.

"Let's go inside," he said, stepping first and naturally taking her hand.

The chamber within was vast, simple, and cold. Moonstones embedded in the walls provided faint, ethereal light.

In the center sat a chair, occupied by a skeleton. Its skull had fallen onto its pale thigh, lending a grim, eerie atmosphere.

Before the chair lay a green stone altar, holding three locked stone boxes neatly arranged.

In the chamber corners lay piles of gold coins and rare treasures....likely worth hundreds of thousands.

Though Xiao Jian didn't need money, free wealth was always welcome.

What truly excited him, however, was a small flowerbed made of soil in the corner.

"Purple-blue leaves, White Spirit Ginseng Fruit, Snow Lotus Seeds…"

Xiao Yixian stared, her eyes wide with shock at the rare herbs.

Moments later, her shock turned to indignation.

"What are you doing?!"

Xiao Jian, unfazed, scooped up the herbs and surrounding coins into his storage ring.

"I said I'd bring you treasure hunting, never promised you'd get anything," he said with mock seriousness.

Xiao Yixian blinked, lips slightly parted.

"Not giving me the treasure… then why bring me here?"

"Shameless!"

Fuming, she pulled her hand from his and sulked in a corner.

Xiao Jian raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at his lips, then approached the skeleton.

Three keys hung from its hand. With ceremonial respect, he bowed thrice and whispered, "Forgive me!"

He grabbed the keys, breaking off the skeleton's arm. Inside the arm lay a small scroll.
