Chapter 85 - A Feast of Hot Air That Can Fill the Belly

He had read the original story, so Lin Feng knew exactly what was going on—Fūko had just awakened from her long seal.

Right now, she was still in a dazed, half-aware state, probably not even sure what her own powers could do, let alone able to precisely control her ability to manipulate wind.

Mentally, although Fūko possessed her own intelligence and could understand human speech, she was still, in essence, no smarter than a human child.

So no matter what, Lin Feng wasn't going to act like Nobita from the original story—who turned into a jealous fool and threw a tantrum over a doll. He wouldn't argue or lose his temper with a being who only had the intelligence of a little kid.

"Shuu~! Shuu~!"

Hearing Lin Feng say that, Fūko immediately smiled again, her happiness bright and clear—just like a child whose emotions were written all over her face.

Beside them, Chachamaru was quietly crouched on the tatami mat, silently watching Lin Feng talk with the Fūko who was residing inside the kettle.

Its round cat eyes were filled with confusion.

Perhaps to Chachamaru, a being like Fūko was something beyond explanation—something strange and incomprehensible.

But at least now, after watching the friendly and intimate way she interacted with Lin Feng, Chachamaru could tell—she wasn't a threat.

"Let's go, Fūko. I'll take you to eat something delicious."

After tidying up the room, Lin Feng remembered that when he had coaxed Fūko into the kettle earlier, he had promised to treat her to something tasty. Now was the time to keep that promise.

"Shuu~! Shuu~!"

Hearing that Lin Feng was going to feed her something delicious, Fūko cheerfully shot out from the kettle's spout, circling him affectionately and rubbing against him like an overjoyed child.

This time, though, she was careful—she deliberately controlled the strength of her wind so she wouldn't accidentally mess up the room Lin Feng had just cleaned.

From what Lin Feng remembered from the original work, Fūko was a small-scale typhoon. Her food source was warm air.

Cold air would be hard to find in this scorching summer weather—he'd probably have to use ice to create it—but warm air? That was easy.

A hairdryer could handle that perfectly.

And that, Lin Feng just happened to have.

So he pulled out the hairdryer, plugged it in, and treated Fūko to what could only be called a full-course "Hot Air Feast."

Once Fūko was full and satisfied, Lin Feng began preparing to head out.

After all, Fūko's current form was way too eye-catching. If someone with ulterior motives saw her, it could easily bring him unexpected trouble.

His plan was to buy a doll—something Fūko could possess. That way, at least on the surface, things would look a lot more normal.

At worst, people would just assume it was some kind of animated toy, and no one would think anything strange.

"Fūko, Chachamaru, I'm going out for a bit. You two stay home, don't run around. Wait for me to come back."

Lin Feng was quite confident in Chachamaru. After all, this was the strongest Cat Pillar from Demon Slayer—wise, understanding, and considerate. A cat like this was rarer than gold.

But when it came to Fūko, who had only just arrived, Lin Feng wasn't so sure.

This little one had just been unsealed—she was still wide-eyed and clueless, curious about everything.

With that kind of personality, it would be all too easy for her to cause chaos.

"Shuu~! Shuu~!"

Still, when she heard Lin Feng's instructions, Fūko nodded excitedly. Then, like a good girl, she dove back into the kettle, looking utterly adorable—her expression saying loud and clear, Don't worry, I'll be good!

"Mm, that's better."

"Chachamaru, I'll leave Fūko in your care for now."

Just to be safe, Lin Feng gave the cat a few extra instructions.

"Meow~!"

Chachamaru dutifully licked its paw, then gave a short meow in acknowledgment—it understood perfectly.

Once he had settled his two little troublemakers, Lin Feng changed clothes and got ready to head out.

But just as he reached the ground floor—

Ding dong!

The sound of the doorbell suddenly rang out.

Puzzled, Lin Feng walked over and opened the door—only to find Shizuka standing there, smiling sweetly, a shopping bag in her hand.

"Shizuka? What brings you here?"

Lin Feng blinked in surprise.

With school currently suspended—and a typhoon expected to hit the city soon—most people were choosing to stay indoors.

But right now, the weather was bright and sunny, with not a single cloud in the sky. It didn't look like rain or a storm was coming anytime soon.

Even the morning forecast had said today would be all sunshine.

"Ah, it's nothing big," Shizuka said with a cheerful smile. "I took Shiro to the pet shop for a bath this morning, and they just happened to have some new flavors of cat food in stock. So I bought a few cans to bring over for Chachamaru."

"Eh? He's not home?"

Normally, whenever Shizuka came by, Chachamaru would be in the living room—and the moment it saw her, it would rush out to greet her, rubbing up against her affectionately.

But this time, Shizuka had already been talking with Lin Feng for a while at the door, and Chachamaru still hadn't shown up. That's why she asked.

"Oh, he's upstairs. Come on in, Shizuka."

Lin Feng hadn't expected her to show up right now.

But thinking about it carefully, it wasn't that strange. After all, he had once told a small white lie—that he'd picked Chachamaru up as a stray from the streets.

Because of that, both Shizuka and Manzuki Miyako had felt especially sympathetic toward the poor cat.

So whenever they had free time, they would show up with snacks and treats for Chachamaru.

Lin Feng could only let them be. After all, even he now considered Chachamaru a true member of the household.

And after thinking it through for a bit, Lin Feng decided not to hide the matter of Fūko from Shizuka.

After all, their relationship had grown quite close—and besides, with how often she came over to play with Chachamaru, it would be nearly impossible to keep Fūko's existence a secret for long.

Rather than lying or covering things up, it was better to tell her everything honestly from the start. That way, there wouldn't be any misunderstandings later.

So Lin Feng gave up on the idea of going out for now, and decided to explain what had happened to Shizuka first.
