Chapter 55
Joe's POV
The ride back to the palace was stiff. My wolf was pacing, restless beneath my skin. Every time Jane leaned on me, every time she laughed like she owned the air around us, it made something primal in me want to snap. But I kept my face calm, distant and uninterested.
Because that's what an amnesiac Alpha does.
Lily hadn't said a word since we left the beach. I could hear her quiet breathing from the front seat, the occasional sniffle she tried to hide. My eyes kept drifting to the mirror just to check if she was still okay. That she hadn't completely broken.
We arrived.
The tires hadn't even cooled before Lily flung the door open and darted into the palace gardens. A moment later, I heard the violent sound of her retching.
Jane scoffed. "Ugh. She just threw up in my garden! I planted those lilies myself, Joe. Those flowers were supposed to bloom for the Luna Ball!"
I didn't reply. I just got out of the car.
