Chapter 40 - Before Tomorrow Comes

Morning Came With A Quiet Ease, The Kind That Felt Like The World Was Catching Its Breath After Long Weeks Of Pressure And Noise. The Exams Were Finally Over, And For The First Time In What Felt Like Forever, Everyone Could Simply… Breathe.

Ren Found Himself Sitting By The Café Window With Vicky, Mahito, Kaito, And Chika. The Soft Buzz Of Conversation Filled The Air — Coffee Cups Clinking, Gentle Music Playing Somewhere Behind The Counter. It Wasn't The Usual School Setting, But Somehow It Felt More Honest.

Mahito Leaned Back With A Smirk. "So, Now That We're Free From School Torture… What's Next? You Finally Gonna Tell Us You're Secretly Dating Someone, Ren?"

Ren Blinked, Deadpan. "If I Were, You'd Be The Last To Know."

Kaito Burst Out Laughing. "That's A Lie. You'd Probably Text Us Accidentally And Then Pretend It Was A Joke."

Even Chika, Stirring Her Drink, Grinned. "He's Right. You'd Probably Send A Message Like 'She's Cute' In The Group Chat By Mistake."

Ren's Lips Twitched. "You All Have Too Much Confidence In My Typing Skills."

The Table Broke Into Laughter. It Was A Light, Comfortable Sound — The Kind That Only Came When No One Had Anything Left To Worry About.

But Amid The Jokes, There Was A Subtle Shift. When Miyu's Name Came Up, Vicky Was The One Who Noticed The Change First.

"So…" Vicky Started, Leaning Closer With That Familiar Mischievous Smile. "You And Miyu Have Been Talking A Lot Lately, Haven't You?"

Ren Froze For Half A Second, His Eyes Flicking Away To The Street Outside. "We're Just… Friends."

"Right," Mahito Said, Dragging Out The Word. "Friends Who Happen To Walk Home Together. Friends Who Somehow End Up Partnered Every Time."

Kaito Joined In, Grinning. "Friends Who Smile More Now."

Ren Sighed, Looking Away With A Hint Of Color On His Face. "You Guys Seriously Need New Hobbies."

The Group Laughed Again, And Though The Teasing Continued, There Was Warmth Beneath It — An Unspoken Understanding That They Were Happy For Him, Even If He Would Never Admit Anything Out Loud.

Next Day, Miyu Sat In A Similar Café With Chika And A Few Other Classmates. The Light From The Window Fell Softly Across Her Face As She Listened To The Gentle Hum Of Conversations Around Them.

Chika Smiled, Watching Her Stir Her Drink. "You're Different Lately, You Know."

Miyu Blinked. "Different?"

"Yeah. Softer. Happier."

Another Friend Joined In, "You've Been Texting A Lot During Breaks Too… Should We Guess Who?"

Miyu's Fingers Froze Around Her Cup. "It's… Not Like That."

Chika Raised An Eyebrow. "Then Who's It Like?"

Miyu Looked Away, A Small Smile Escaping Before She Could Stop It. "Just Someone I Talk To."

The Group Exchanged Knowing Looks, Followed By A Chorus Of Giggles.

"Oh, Come On!" One Said. "Just Admit It! You Like Him, Don't You?"

Miyu Sighed, Trying To Hide The Smile That Was Already Giving Her Away. "You're All Impossible."

But Her Friends Didn't Stop. They Spun Small Fantasies, Pretending To Plan A Confession For Her, Making The Table Burst Into Laughter. Despite Her Best Efforts, Miyu Found Herself Laughing Along, Feeling That Gentle Warmth Bloom In Her Chest Again.

The Day Drifted Softly Into Evening.

Back Home, Ren Had Just Finished Dinner When The Teasing Began — Not From His Friends, But From Riko.

She Leaned Against The Doorway With A Smirk. "So… I Heard You Told Mom And Dad Something Interesting."

Ren Looked Up From His Book, Instantly Suspicious. "How Do You Even Know That?"

"I Have Ears," Riko Said Sweetly. "Big Ones."

Before He Could Respond, She Continued, "So… Miyu, Huh? You Really Went And Told Them?"

Ren Tried To Stay Calm, But The Corner Of His Mouth Twitched. "You're Overreacting."

Riko Gasped Dramatically. "Overreacting? I'm Just Proud! My Little Brother's In Love! Should I Start Picking Out Wedding Invitations?"

"Riko."

"Okay, Okay," She Said, Giggling. "But Seriously, Ren… That's Actually Really Sweet. You Should Tell Her Before Someone Else Does."

He Looked Away, Pretending To Read. "You Watch Too Many Dramas."

Meanwhile, In Miyu's House, Chaos Had Also Found Its Way.

Yui Sat Cross-Legged On Her Sister's Bed, Eyes Sparkling With Mischief. "So, You Told Mom And Dad, Huh?"

Miyu Froze, Mid-Brushing Her Hair. "…You Heard That?"

"Of Course I Did. And Guess What — So Did Big Brother."

Before She Could React, Her Older Brother Poked His Head In. "Well, Well. Didn't Think The Day Would Come When My Little Sister Would Actually Like Someone."

Miyu Groaned. "Can We Not Talk About This?"

"Too Late," Yui Said, Grinning. "We're Talking About It Forever."

Her Brother Added, "You Should Invite Him Over. I'll Make Sure To 'Accidentally' Show Him Your Baby Photos."

"Don't You Dare," Miyu Said, Pointing At Him.

He Shrugged. "No Promises."

Laughter Filled The Room — Loud, Real, And Comforting. Despite The Endless Teasing, There Was Affection In Every Word. Her Family Wasn't Mocking Her; They Were Happy For Her, In Their Own Chaotic Way.

Later That Night, As The House Quieted Down, Ren Sat On His Bed, Staring At His Phone.

He Hesitated For A Moment Before Calling. The Line Rang Twice Before Miyu's Soft Voice Answered.

"Hey," She Said.

"Hey," He Replied.

It Wasn't A Heavy Conversation. They Talked About Simple Things — The Weather, The Café, Riko's Endless Teasing. Miyu Laughed, Sharing Her Own Family's Antics, The Chaos Of Yui And Her Brother.

The Conversation Drifted Like A Warm Breeze — Light, Familiar, And Strangely Comforting.

After A Small Pause, Ren Spoke Quietly. "Hey, Miyu."

"Mm?"

"Let's Go Somewhere Tomorrow."

Miyu's Voice Softened. "Like… A Date?"

He Smiled, Even Though She Couldn't See It. "Maybe."

There Was A Pause, Then A Gentle Laugh From The Other End. "Alright. I'll See You Tomorrow Then."

"Yeah."

When The Call Ended, Both Of Them Sat There For A Moment — Phones Still In Hand, Hearts Quietly Beating Faster Than Before.

For The First Time In A Long While, The World Felt Lighter. Not Because Everything Was Solved, But Because They Were Finally Ready To Step Forward — Together.

[Ren]

The Night Felt Longer Than Usual. The City Was Quiet, Yet My Thoughts Refused To Rest. Maybe Because Tomorrow Isn't Just Another Day. It's Strange — How Something So Simple, Like Saying "Let's Go Somewhere," Can Hold So Much Weight.

I Keep Thinking Back To Everything That's Led Us Here. The First Time We Talked, The Group Projects, The Awkward Silences, The Moments I Couldn't Explain But Felt Anyway. Back Then, I Didn't Even Know What I Wanted. I Just Knew That Whenever She Was Around, Things Felt… Less Empty.

I Used To Think Staying Quiet Was Easier. That If I Didn't Reach Out, Nothing Could Go Wrong. But Then She Showed Me What It Meant To Be Understood Without Words — What It Meant To Be Seen.

Tomorrow, I'll Say It. Maybe Not Perfectly, Maybe Not Even Smoothly… But I'll Say It. Because For The First Time, I'm Not Afraid Of Being Heard.

If She's There Beside Me, Then Whatever Comes Next — It'll Be Enough.

[Miyu]

Tonight Feels Different. Like The Air Itself Is Waiting. I Don't Know Why My Heart Won't Calm Down — Maybe Because I Know What Tomorrow Means.

I Keep Remembering The Small Things — The Way He'd Listen Without Saying Much, The Quiet Messages We Shared, The Silences That Somehow Felt Safe. It's Funny… I Spent So Long Trying To Be Perfect For Everyone Else, But With Him, I Didn't Have To Be Anything At All. Just Me.

It's Scary, Thinking About Saying It Out Loud. I'm Not Used To Choosing What I Want. But This Time, I Don't Want To Hide Behind Expectations. I Want To Be Honest — Even If My Voice Shakes.

Tomorrow, I'll See Him. And Maybe… That's Enough Reason To Smile.

Because Somewhere Along The Way, Without Realizing It, We Became The Quiet Part Of Each Other's World — And Now, It's Time To Let That Quiet Turn Into Words.
