Leo shook off his momentary shock.
It wasn't that he cared about the wolves; what really surprised him was that they had died despite having such tight coordination and discipline. And another thing was the number of bodies.
It was far greater than what he had seen near the treasure site.
Not just eleven.
More than fifteen corpses littered the scorched forest floor, and none of them belonged to the alphas or the betas.
From what Leo could tell, most of the dead wolves ranged from Low 1-star to High 2-star. He even spotted the female omega lying motionless with the charred remains of her pups tucked beneath her body, as though she had tried to shield them from the inferno until the very end.
A grim heaviness settled in his chest—this looked less like a battle and more like a family massacred in a single stroke.
