Athena didn't choose anybody. Especially with the fact that Rhydric was on her side.
She did the only thing her sanity allowed, and what Rhydric expected from her.
Walked away.
She moved with her head down. Her feet moving faster and faster until it was practically a run.
She didn't dare look at Theo. Didn't dare look at Eryx. Didn't dare glance at Azrael either. None of them make any sense.
She bolted straight into the house.
Behind her, the reaction was immediate.
Theo's smile stretched, slow and smug, like a cat who knocked something off the counter on purpose.
Not because he was jealous. But, because he loved watching the look on Eryx's face. It's precious.
And Eryx…Oh God, he looked like he'd just been stabbed in the ego.
His jaw clenched so hard, that it almost cracked. His entire body tensed. He stared at the spot Athena had just fled from like it personally offended him. Maybe it did. Perhaps, if the floor had glued her on it, she wouldn't have to move at all.
