"Huh? You're back already?" Damien raised a brow the moment Alex stepped into the vast living room, his tone edged with disbelief. "You literally just left. I thought you wouldn't be back until nighttime, you know…"
"And I didn't expect to be discharged from the hospital so quickly either," Alex replied with a heavy sigh as he dropped onto the couch opposite Damien. He leaned back, rubbing his temples briefly before looking up again. "How are you feeling now, though? Your head....does it still hurt?"
"Since when do you care whether I live or die?" Damien scoffed, arching a brow sharply. "You only keep me around because I'm useful to you anyway." His lips curled into a humorless smile. "I'm sure you were hoping I'd stay longer in the hospital. At least that way I'd be out of your hair and away from all my dramas. But here I am." He spread his hands mockingly. "So yeah, I know you're not exactly thrilled about that."
