HARPER
"You did what?!"
I shot out of my chair, eyes wide in shock as I stared at Julian. He stared back at me, confused.
"What?" he murmured, his confusion deepening. "I thought you always wanted to work in one of those big medical firms. One is opening soon in the city center and, fortunately, it aligns with your skills and goals. I thought putting your name down as one of the first employees made sense, especially since my parents are major investors," he explained.
"No, no, no," I mumbled, shaking my head.
It might have made sense to others. Some girls would have jumped at the offer and declared him the best man in the world for securing them such an amazing job. And yes, he was amazing—but that didn't mean I wanted him putting my name forward, not when Dominic fucking Fletcher would be the boss.
I didn't leave New York and spend two peaceful years of my life just to be dragged back into drama. One I never asked for.
"What's wrong?" he asked, stepping closer.
